AI Cameras That Can Spot Drunk Drivers? Amazing Stuff!
Hello, lovely WA people.
So, I’ve been trying to learn more about this AI thing in my spare time!!!! And guess what I stumbled across?
AI cameras that can tell if someone’s driving drunk! I mean, can you imagine? It’s like something out of a sci-fi movie, but it’s actually real and happening right here in the UK.
Now, these clever cameras are being tested down in Devon and Cornwall (a beautiful part of the country). They’re not your average speed cameras, oh no. These AI-powered miracles can apparently watch how a car is moving and spot if the driver might be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
It’s all about picking up on things like swerving, weaving, or speeding up and slowing down erratically. You know, those tell-tale signs that someone shouldn’t be behind the wheel.(not that I know anything about it!)
And here’s where it gets really cool—once the camera notices something fishy, it can ping a message straight to the police nearby.
(I'm practising with ai images! The speed camera looks more like a 1970s Polaroid!)
So, instead of waiting around hoping to catch someone at a checkpoint or on patrol, the officers can swoop in and stop the driver for a proper check. Brilliant, isn’t it?
The cameras are mobile too, so they can be moved to all those risky spots where accidents tend to happen. I reckon this could be a game-changer for road safety. They say it could stop so many accidents before they happen. Makes you wonder how many lives this could save, doesn’t it?
Now, I know some of you might be thinking, "But what about privacy?" Actually, it didn’t occur to me until I read further and it was mentioned in the article.
From what I’ve read, these cameras aren’t snooping into your car or anything. They’re just focusing on the driving behaviour—no peeking into your glove box or checking what music you’re blasting out!
The trial is still early days, but if it works, this could be rolled out across more areas. Imagine a world where drink and drug driving becomes way harder to get away with. Personally, I think it’s a excellent idea. Anything that makes our roads safer is a win in my book.
Anyway, that’s my little nugget of AI wisdom for today. What do you think about these cameras? Fancy the idea, or is it all a bit too Big Brother for you?
Bye for now, and happy learning!

Sounds like a decent idea off the bat Jackie... anyway to make the roads safer is a bonus in my book and I am originally from Devon!!
But... I find it difficult to believe that they could actually police it...
No offense to my parents and any others of their age... they drive erratically and inconsistently on a daily basis so I can see a lot of limited police funding wasted here!!
Just my opinion of course my friend! :-)
Agree Nick tireness can also at times look like a driver under the influence as well though there are not drunk. I would prefer more police on the roads than relying on Ai
Did you know that tiredness kills or injures more on the roads than alcohol or drugs. Scary thought isn't it?
So maybe it's not such a bad idea that it pick this up as well as possible alcohol or drugs.

Yes true it is worst that drugs or alcohol in many cases and many have lost their lives as a result. That is another reason why we have double demerit points on all public holiday this year we have it start a week before christmas until the 3rd of January.
This does work and has reduced lost of lives over the years but there are still those that think not only are they above the law but immune until something happens.
Plus we also have random breath testing with aroung 5 or 6 police cars some are pulling drivers over to test for alcohol or drugs with the breathalizer while a couple of highway police cars are there in case drivers dont' pull over when asked to. The random testing is not just on public holiday and anyday of the week and in different places.
lol the cameras will catch me because im a terrible driver.I know im so bad that I do not even drive for the last 20plus years not to mention being totally confused at night with city lights
They have been using this technology for over a year in Texas, along with License Plate readers that track Stolen Vehicles. DPS (Texas Department of Public Safety) has created a specific Task Force Dedicated to the two. Some of the newer updated camera sites even have facial recognition that can check for warrants.
In the Towing Industry, we end up with the vehicles after the arrest. Business is booming since the addition.

What is mind-blowing is what we do not know or are not yet aware of. AI Tech is scary with some of the abilities it has.
Here is a scary video about AI Drones. Watch if you dare. lol

Apparently it's not as new as I'd thought. Texas has already got it and more.
On the other hand, for Devon and Cornwall in the UK, it's really big news:)

Hmmmm . . . they don't advertise that it is being used here in the US, at least not that I have heard.
It was leaked in the area but never made the news. Tow Operators love it because of the increase in income from impounds. But it is a thing, and it is expanding.

Yes that would be great but agree with Nick it would be difficult to police and I dont' feel it would be highly accurate.
As we know AI can get mamy things wrong as well regardless of it's good intentition.
O our camera sin Australia can also pick up drivers using their mobile phones while driving even if it is not is total view through infra red and higher positioning of their camera. They also take phote shots as proof/
Here it is against the law to drive and use a mobile phone while driving big hines apply worst on public holiday and the demerit points are doubled along with the fine
