First Impressions
Right now, I have so many ideas running through my head that I've glad Kyle and Carson have taken the time to map out the beginning of this adventure for me. I've dabbled in affiliate marketing in the past, but have never had the time to really give it my best effort. Now, I'm eager to get started and trying to decide what is the best path for me to take.
I've decided on two things so far. Number one, I'm going to create a website for my writing business. I don't know why I've never really focused on this before. It certainly has its benefits. This site will be in addition to affiliate websites. Number two, I'm eventually going to learn PPC marketing to help me advertise my direct sales business (which is a hobby right now) online.
I'm still determining whether it's better to have a large website that covers a lot of smaller areas of a niche or multiple sites focused on small niche areas. (any thoughts on this would be great.) For example, if I wanted to get into the travel niche, do I have one website that focused on multiple destinations or a lot of small websites that focus on specific destinations?
I know that I'm definitely learning. I've decided that probably the main reason that people fail at this type of business is because they over think the tasks rather than taking action. I think the best way to pursue this is by completing small tasks to move forward each day. So, that's what I plan to do.
My first impression of Wealthy Affiliate is a good one. I'm excited, nervous, slightly overwhelmed and thrilled. Here's to new business ventures; hopefully we will all succeed!

Hi Emily,
Glad to have another Ohio gal in the WA community :)
Funny you mentioned the travel niche, I am just digging in to that area and was debating how to set everything up, one big site or many small niche focused sites.
I decided to go with a domain name that I can build a brand around, I will start in one corner of the travel niche but be very focused and niche oriented but I do have the possibility to grow the site...
The most important thing that you mention though is to take ACTION, nothing will happen with out that.
Best of luck and let us know if you need any help,
Veronica
That's what I was thinking. And, you're right that's odd that we are both from Ohio and love travel. I figured it was probably the best niche for me to start in because it's something I love and have the topic I have the most writing experience about. It's just hard for me to narrow down a place to start because I absolutely love everything about travel. I'll get there though. I also have 3 more ideas in mind for larger sites that I plan to brand (or try to) Probably in the end, I'll figure out what works best for me and go from there. Eventually, I'd like to have smaller niche sites for random products, holidays etc... but that's a long way down the line. I have those creative juices following though and have learned to keep a pad of paper near me at all times!
I have both "authority" sites and small niche sites and the "authority" sites does better.
The niche sites easily become many and I have a tendency to lose interest if it is not something I am really passionate about.
Focus focus focus is one of the hardest things with internet marketing because there is oppertunities every where!!
From the moment you waltzed into chat, Emily, I knew you were meant for WAU.
My first thought was that you were Eurotrash (like me) and of the "if you have nothing nice to say about anybody... come and sit next to me" school of tap-tap-tapping.
I was actually gob-smacked to learn you're another native of that Bermuda Triangle of affiliation, Ohio. None of us ever realised your state had got beyond tin-cans-and-string in the communication revolution. Or witchcraft.
You've already made your position clear. You're siding with the Court of that Demon Queen, @veronica.l. I can only believe that's out of fear and geographical proximity. I therefore having nothing else to say, except...
Welcome!
Rich. x
Hahaha @Rich me and you are going to get along great! I already love you! I have to stay off of the chat for a few days because rent is due and I must work on some writing work.... But, I'll be popping in when I get a chance. Another month of playing catch up and I'll probably be a permanent fixture on the WA char!
hi emily - don't be the dayton dabbler - focus on one site and start with a single theme and see where it goes - you don't want to be a jack of all trades and master of none - just the ramblings of the aging newbie internet junkie - nanu, nanu, mork out
i meant to tell you that i did that and now i have to wade through correction mode - didn't want to see you make the same mistake i did
Gotcha.... pick a topic and focus on it.... That's a hard thing for me (I have terrible A.D.D. so my thoughts are often all over the place) I will try my best to make it work though!
It is better to be great at ONE thing when starting out than mediocre at 10. Once you develop your own formula for success within one niche it can easily be replicated across many other niches.
You have a bright future ahead of you. When you start to realize that everything you do that involves action will lead to cumulative growth of your business, you are going to be very excited. Your end goal of what you think success is will continue to evolve as your business grows. Aim for being an "expert" in your passion area and the money will follow.
Lots of help if you ever need it! :)
Thanks Kyle. I can't wait until I get paid this week so I can switch over to the paid membership. I think I'm going to try a combination of things. Maybe a main site for something I'm really passionate about and know I can keep updated easily and then some small niche sites eventually. I have a few ideas floating through my head. I'm sure they'll all work themselves out as I go along. Thanks for all of your help!
Yeah, it will all start to come together and a lot of things that seem difficult or "foreign" now will become second nature very quickly. Take action regularly, that is my one piece of advice to you. Action leads to success...
I agree. I think taking action daily is important regardless of what business venture you choose. And, BTW I've now started checking WA every morning instead of FB. Thanks fr yet another addiction Kyle! ;)
LOL, sorry about that! I have been logging here instead of Facebook for some time, if I am going to socialize online we might as well make the discussions meaningful and relevant right? :)

Was wondering if you had a chance to work through "30 Day Success Club" training area. It gives lots of ways to socialize your website for free or little money. It covers building a website as well. PCC I have been working on for awhile. It can get costly, probably why it's not my main focus. I just read in amazon that to much product is overwhelming for the reader. Not quite the same but maybe same principle. Also knowing your niche is important - focus on what you know more so, before venturing future. Best of luck and WA is truly inspiring.
Thanks for the tips. I haven't been through everything yet; I haven't upgraded my membership, but plan to tomorrow. I will definitely read through it all though. I have decided to implement 4 authority sites and then work on smaller niche sites as I go. Hopefully, the plan works out. How is PPC going for you?
