No smoking day.
No Smoking Day is an annual awareness day in the UK.
No smoking day is founded by a charity and first took place on Ash Wednesday in 1984.
The date was then changed to the second Wednesday in March.
This means that in 2021, No Smoking Day will be celebrated on Wednesday the 10th.
The purpose of No Smoking Day is to campaign for greater awareness about the health dangers associated with smoking.
No Smoking Day charity was merged with the British Heart Foundation in 2011, It is now a mix of voluntary and governmental sector organisations.
How is No Smoking Day celebrated?
People create special messages and recommendations, Some people post on their social media sites to encourage others to take action.
These messages messages of encouragement does work, a large number of people end up quitting all together every year.
Throughout its years of running, No Smoking Day has seen some great results, with research showing that in 2009, 1 in 10 smokers quit on No Smoking Day that year.
What are the dangers of smoking?
Smoking is a habit that is dangerous not just for the smokers but also for the people around them, inhaling second hand smoke is the same as having smoked.
Smoking boosts the chances of harmful health issues such as different types of cancer and heart diseases.
Cigarette smoking is addictive and it is also very expensive nowadays, I've known people who would go without food shopping to buy their cigarettes instead.
Smoking is a very bad habit, it's costly, it makes you smell bad, rots your teeth, drys out you skin natural oils, ruins interior organs and affects fertility.
Why do people smoke?
It is said that most smokers start it for a reason, there can be a number of factors which contribute to a person starting to smoke.
A good reason can be, mental health issues which can lead to addiction, anoth reason people start smoking is during their teenage years as they start experimenting with things.
Some teenagers then keep up the habit as a way of rebelling against their parents or pressure from their friends.
No Smoking Day is a fantastic opportunity to highlight many of these issues, and asking people to think about and identify the reason for smoking.
Any person can help another understand and handle their problems before they add another by taking up smoking.
So guys, we all have free-will and we tend to do what we want but sometimes a friendly advice can go a long way.
Enjoy your non-smoking day on Wednesday the 10th of March 2021 and try to quit thereafter, if you can go without smoking for one day, you can go two and more.

I was not aware of No Smoking Day. It's a good idea. Here in California, smoking is banned almost everywhere. I was raised in a house of smokers. Now, I can be out hiking and get a wiff of smoke and it startles me. We have come a long way. Thanks for the information.
Every day is No Smoking Day for me! I am free from the cursed stuff for almost 7 years - after smoking for 27 years.
What a waste of money!
And I don't think I was ever "cool". I was just an idiot.
Hi Lina
I never knew there was such a day, thank you for sharing!
I was a smoker for many years and really struggled to stop. Eventually The Easy Way To Stop Smoking is the one that helped me achieve the goal of becoming a happy non smoker. Smoking is very much a psychological addiction, there is a physical addiction too, but the belief system that goes along with smoking is more powerful. Interestingly, non-smokers have similar beliefs around smoking, for example, smokers outside the party / dinner / event are having a better time than the non-smokers inside. One thing for sure, smokers are no different to non smokers in terms of intelligence, they are aware of the dangers of smoking, and the habit is driven in some of the most unexpected ways.
Anyways, thank you again for sharing.
Blessings
Louise

Very interesting post, Idalina. Too bad the US doesn't follow the UK's example and have a No Smoking Day. My father died of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and cancer when he was only 66. He smoked from the time he was 10 til he couldn't breathe any more and had to start on oxygen. Such a waste of a wonderful life!
Yes, I’m sorry to hear that, no Smoking day is actually good and some people take up the challenge and manage to quit which is great as it improves their health and they get happier.
Take care and stay safe.

Yes, I think it's a wonderful idea. My brother could have benefitted from one. He went to a hypnotist and was able to quit using post hypnotic suggestions. The No Smoking Day might have helped him be able to quit sooner (and cheaper!) But no matter what it takes, I'm always happy for people who are able to overcome their addiction to tobacco.
