Social Media Profile Photo - What should I use ?
Hello WA'ers,
I know everyone loves their pets, their inspirational photo taken in your last travel or maybe your favorite sport but are all images the same and does it matter what image you use on your social media profile ?
I see many people using photos other than that of themselves and its a big no no if your trying to build a brand online.
Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if your seriously considering building a business online and plan on BRANDING yourself then I would caution you from using anything other than your personal photos.
Why?
Because people love doing business with other people not your pet, your travel photo or any other type of photo for that matter. People want to see whom they are doing business with and if they should even make a purchase from you.
People buy from people they can trust and having a nice profile photo your half way there.
Your social media profile will look more professional and as a result will get you more engagement than using other type of photo.
Also, remeber to smile or have a friendly appearance on your photo and make eye contact with your camera.

I think that is true advice in a lot of niches but not all. In some niches, a niche related main photo is common on popular sites. Or the photo might be a person but not identifying, like a travel site with a profile photo of a nice view and a person in profile or from a distance. It makes sense to look at the big and mid-range names in a niche and see what they're doing. I don't think compromising privacy by posting full facial pictures is necessarily required in all niches.

Unless your a CocaCola company that needs no introduction or even a mid-level company which are probably very well known in the industry then I would agree that at this point your company is so well known that everyone buys their products without hesitation.
However, if you're not making six or seven figures and nobody knows who you are people will more than likely not trust you enough to stick around your website or even purchase your products.
I've only built 4 websites to rank on the first page of google and have been doing this for over 10 years. That's just a little experience in SEO and Internet Marketing.
Yes, I am new here but not new in the industry and I speak from real life experience in this game.
As far as privacy, there is none. If you're online on any social media platform or used google or made purchases online you have no privacy. So, being concerned about privacy should not be a concern about putting a face to your business.
This is my humble opinion and my experience. But of course everyone is entitled to do what they feel comfortable doing with their business. This is only advice of what I've learned over the years.

Thanks for the comment and reading. About your photo on your website, go to Users in your WordPress back office and click on Your Profile to edit and add your photo using Gravatar.
Avatar is free to sign up or sign in with your wordpress.com account than add your photo.

on Pinterest for my profile, but when I changed for my
real photo everything changed!
