I get what you are saying but sometime I get more than 5 new follower when do we get a new slate I am sure 24hrs but that is what time to what time

Unfortunately, a lot of people are following in the hope of follow-backs or for profile comments just to increase their own ranking, not because they're interested in someone or what they've got to say. I've seen cases where someone is following 50,000+ other members, and 10,000-20,000 is not uncommon.
I've been here almost a year and even when I post or chat it's rare that I get more than half-a-dozen "real" followers in a day. I also don't feel obligated to "thank" them on their profile. I've certainly never expected to be thanked myself for following someone, I've done so because I'm interested in them.

This came about at the request of those like myself who refer people to WAU and found that newcomers were being inundated with spammy messages within seconds of signing up, often before Kyle, Carson or the referrer's automated messages had been delivered or a profile had even been completed.
It was making WAU look like some sort of MLM *scam* and also raised the issue of some people doing it simply to *game* the system to improve their own WAU ranking.
I can safely say that none of us who challenged the situation wanted to stop genuine welcome messages or altruistic profile commenting. However, when people are following 50,000+ members, copying-and-pasting hundreds of words and multiple links and FOLLOW ME! demands on profiles, etc. etc. and alienating our referrals, we felt there was no other option but to ask Kyle and Carson if they would consider implementing additional *security* measures.

I got the same message today and went on live chat and was told that you could reply to 5 profiles every 24 hrs. I didn't know about it either, but actually I kind of like it. I feel like I have to answer everyone, and this limits it so I can do other things, like train.
Hey there Henning, yes there is a limit to how many people that you may say hello to on their profile in a day. This was implemented due to people abusing the system by copy/pasting messages. Each day you may say hello to a handful of NEW people that you have never left a message to before, but anyone you've been in contact with in the past can be contacted as much as you like.
This is new to WA, so we will be adjusting the limits as we see fit. The GOAL is to cut down on comment spam and allow new people to come into WA and not be bombarded with copy/paste messages. I know that in this case you are just wanting to say hello to someone who has followed you and that you are not intending to spam :)
We will do our best to make this as unobtrusive as possible.
