Shiny New Object Syndrome nearly got me

Lately I have been consciously checking out other peoples websites. I have the feeling mine are not professional enough and perhaps need a lot of tweaking so I am randomly clicking on people's profiles to see if they list their websites(s) so I can go sticky beaking.

Today I happened upon one that recommended a funnel program.

I have to give it to the WA member, the blog was well written and played upon the fears we all have, that this is taking too long and perhaps there is a way to hasten up the process.

It was very cleverly written and coming from another WA member who is obviously passionate about our beloved WA, I was perhaps swayed a little more than I otherwise might have been, to check out this affiliate funnel program to see if it could be a good fit for inclusion on my Bootcamp site.

Yes Shiny New Object Syndrome had reared its ugly head and I was careening head long towards it's snapping jaws.

After signing up for the initial email which did explain how the affiliate program worked, the commission structure and a brief overview of funnels, I watched the 20-minute video and clicking on a link to sign up for the said affiliate program.

Only to find that I have to sign up myself to become a member to be able to promote it.

While the idea looked interesting I really don't need another monthly subscription and I don't have enough hours in the day to do what I want/need to do here at WA let alone follow another set of training and probably confuse myself even more.

I really thought I was going to be able to sign up to their affiliate program, learn about the product and be able to market it on my existing site. Maybe this is just my naivety coming to the fore. Geez I'm glad I found WA!

So before diving headlong into other program that promise the world with their affiliate programs (and paying a second membership fee) have a good hard look at what is offered in the training here at WA before you fall for Shiny New Object Syndrome.

So true, Heidi. Glad you realized what was happening before you lost some hard earned money.
All the best,
Wendi :)

So am I and to be honest if they hadn't wanted money to sign up I would have looked further into promoting them as an affiliate but having to pay just to find out nah not my cup of tea.

Excellent catch on your part!! Yes, the "shiny object" is definitely always going to be around to cause us distraction. Great job avoiding the trap....as it says, "see you around" while watching you depart. LOL

Have a great day!

Val

It was looking so shiny too!!

"Sticky beaking", huh, Heidi?

Boy, that sure gives you away as a resident of that famous "land down under."

It is definitely an Australian slang for being nosey.

And, you're right. Shiny object syndrome is alive and well in all of our bouts of wishful thinking.

Jim

I need to be more aware of my language Jim. I said on a FB post that “Bob seemed like a good bloke”, and got asked what a bloke was! For those that don’t know a bloke is a man.

Half the time I’m not sure what is Aussie slang because it is just the way we speak.

I did know to change float to trailer in one of my niche site blogs. In Australia we put horses in a float, in the US it’s a trailer. I’m sure people would have thought I was some kind of magician being able to float my horse lol.

Have to wear blinders

Yep can't be physical but some mental and emotional ones would be handy. I think it is just human nature to want to be successful and we tend to grasp onto anything that looks even remotely promising, hence why scammers seem to do so well.

Thanks for stopping by Mike.

You are not the only one. I have drifted a couple of times down that road.

I don't think it's the drift that's the problem thankfully, it seems to be the sudden drop or stop at the end when we realise what we've done lol.

Absolutely Heidi. You get to that stage then wonder what the heck am I doing. Reality check here.

The last one I had to part with $100 only to get in and realise I was now an Enagic distributor. Funny thing I was referred to by one of the members in this platform. I think they eventually kicked him out for spam.

I hope so

Guilty as charged.

I think we probably all are at some stage Stuart, those who say they haven't at least considered it might be having a lend of themselves :)

In my case I call it an old man's syndrome of not concentrating:)!

Word.

Howdy Heidi, you're way too smart for going all out for the shiny objects. I think we can all say with honesty that the temptation to dive in is something that we will face along the way.

Some will unfortunately go all in but you know where the handbrake is and when to give it a yank. Good call!

Keep well,

Brian

Why thank you for saying so Brian, glad I found that handbrake before I was too far in :)

Shiny new object syndrome strikes again.

Well done for being able to put it aside.

Derek

It didn't take long to realise I was in over my head thankfully. Thanks for your comment as always Derek.

SOS is out there, big time. The best way to see how good it is, is to compare with WA, then write a review on it on your site and it will show up the downsides very quickly.

Its what i do.

But to clarify there is nothing wrong with having funnels from WordPress Sites, I'm working on one at the moment.

But thanks for sharing

Oh for sure I am looking forward to understanding how funnels work and proper landing pages.

So much to learn, but until I get a handle on what I don't fully understand already I think I'll just keep working through the training lol.

Heidi

Just to give you an insight into a funnel and how landing pages work?, just a brief overview

I have two sites. One is for WA, the other is not, its for my niche.

My WA site, is built to direct those who read in to some affiliate offers on my page, but mainly to get referalls to WA through review content as taught in the OEC

Part of my WA site, also redirects people to my other Niche site, which is being built here at WA

Those two sites together are called a Funnel, because they funnel from one to another

Landing pages, are an easier way to build your list, because you are putting up a Page which through the content on it, by asking a question invites the prospect to enter their details to get the solution you are providing.

Landing pages are connected to an autoresponder of your choice such as AWeber, MailChimp or similar

Does that help sightly
