About HavenJames
Joined June 2018
I have run the gamut of the career rat race, and just haven't found it at all enjoyable. I honestly have no idea how people can carry on for years living a life that has nothing to do with their passion in life.

My fiancé, daughter, and I have recently embarked on a regenerative farming project in the Green Mountains of Vermont, where I grew up. We hope to bring great things to the local community and create something special for ourselves.

We expect the farm to make some money, but having an income producing business online would be a dream.

I think that life has much more to offer than business as usual. I always dreamed of writing and living mostly off the land. I find myself on the cusp of realizing that reality.

I believe that by creating more for ourselves we can live far wealthier lives than trying to buy everything we want in the world by working for someone else in jobs that are in no way fulfilling.

We owe it to ourselves to be true to who we are. A world of fulfilled individuals would make a world of difference.

Hello Haven ... thank you for the follow. I'm sure spring and summer are wonderful. How severe are the winters?

Your passion is obvious and you are to be commended for having the courage and conviction to just 'Do It'.

I wish you the best on your new life and on your WA journey.

Thanks for connecting, Dennis.

The winters can certainly get cold, and February seems to feel longer than the other months of the year, but if you chop enough wood for the fire, you stay pretty warm both inside and outside.

I look forward to sharing the journey.

Best,
Haven

The online images of Green Mountain, Vermont are beautiful. So ... well, green. Winter images have some snow, but it doesn't look bad. Nice change of season. Green mountain Christmas must be special.

Thanks for adding me to your network, Haven, and very nice to meet you as well. I have done the same. I think I understand exactly what you mean when you say that most work is not exciting if it's not a passion.

That's not to say that I haven't had a few jobs that I did like. I was a spray finisher for about 15 years, 3.5 of which were working for a Yacht company finishing woodwork that went into multi-million dollar yachts. Very much enjoyed watching wood being transformed into something amazing.

Anyway, this isn't about me, it's about you so I just want to say that you sound like someone who is going to be totally committed to the process and I am sure you will succeed.

I wish you all the best as you continue this journey and encourage you to never give up and always,

Keep Moving Forward,
Wayne

Thanks for connecting, Wayne. I built big wooden catamarans for a spell. Doggish work, but I did enjoy turning wood into something amazing.

I still enjoy thinking that the wood I turned into boats carries people over oceans.

The hulls of the yachts I helped build were made of fiberglass and were build for extremes in the ocean. But, OH, the kinds of wood that went inside those boats wasn't your basic mahoganies or teaks. They were, in some cases, very exotic.

I think the skill behind building wooden boats might be a little higher than fiberglass in a mold. The measurements have to be bang on when working with wood and curves.

I wanted to build a cedar strip canoe many moons ago but never had the space to do it. Would have been fun.

All the best,
Wayne

I imagine that high end yachts can get pretty crazy about the interior wood used. The catamarans I was building were used of day charter, so they were more utilitarian than fancy.

I built a few cedar strip canoes back in the day. They are gorgeous, but a pain to maintain if you actually want to take it out and use it.

Wood and epoxy boats are more forgiving from a skill standpoint than you might think. You can fill a pretty good sized gap with epoxy and get away with it.

I'd like to build a Chris Craft style cruiser in the near future.

Cheers,
Haven

Hi Haven,

Thanks for following me and it is great to meet you.
I just had a look at the Stratton Mountain Championship Golf Course to see what Green Hills looks like. Wow, it looks fantastic.
And I hope the land and the weather are being kind to you.
Our farmers in Australia are doing it really tough with the drought.

So on a final note, I would like to wish you and your family the very best in all aspects of life. See you along the journey through WA.

The green hills of Vermont are spectacular, and we have had decent weather so far this year.

It was very dry here for a good portion of the summer, but we have had some nice storms recently that have refilled to ponds around the property.

We have deployed elements of key line design on the property, which was developed by an Aussie named P.A Yeoman. It is an amazing concept.

I look forward to following your journey here,

The trick to goats is always giving them way more stuff to eat than they can possibly manage. If they aren’t entirely engrossed in eating stuff you want them to, they will become entirely engrossed in eating stuff you don’t want them to.

Hello again Haven. I meant to tell you about Prince Charles garden at Highgrove. He has a stumpery. Its a Victorian invention. They uplifted a dead trees roots, which looks amazing btw then they plant all shade loving plants in its uplifted root shadow. As far as sustainable goes the mushrooms love this wet dark environment as do most ferns. If you like mushrooms, its a good idea.
Reply
HavenJames Premium
Dana, I love this idea. I also love mushrooms, so this could be magic.

I have more than a few such places on the property. I love the idea of planting shade plants instead of digging up the rest of the roots.

Far more natural, and less work for me. Thanks for sharing the idea.

I hope things are going well.

Cheers,
Haven

My significant other has a sister and brother-in-law they do something similar full-time in Washington State in the suburbs of Seattle, so your quest to supplement with affiliate marketing is fascinating.

You have made the right decision, imho HavenJames.I can share with you, this place will offer you the knowledge and meet lots of people just like you. Btw, I live in Hawaii and I have been on this planet for over 60 years and big known businesses I have been used to are going extinct. Yes disappear. Gone!

Why?

Because companies I had no idea would take over the world is doing it. All from this internet world. Yep, business, as I have known it for many, many years, have been taken over by a new way of buying.

Take Amazon, when they first started this stock if my memory serves me right was ohhh $30 a share. I used to trade over 450 shares and when I made money (if i did, most times I didn't know what I was doing and sold at a lost) I'd go on my merry way and went to find "stock-graphs" that appeared to look like it would go up and buy doing the same thing.

OK, i'm going on a tangent but imagine if over 20 years ago I kept Amazon until now! With the splits (not sure it did) I'd be rich as heck.

Enough of my "what ifs" you get the message this world and the people that live it are buying through the internet.

4 BILLION OF HUMANS ARE BUYING SOMETHING.

THAT IS EXCITING DON'T YOU THINK JAMES!

Thought I share this story with you and you are a smart man. You're looking ahead. That little one between your legs is what you're doing it for and your wife!

I'm excited for you James!
