Are You doing the Right Thing?
When I ask this question I don't mean it in the practical, task driven, sense that guides the "business as usual" morass.
Things like, "did you make 32 sales calls today", or "did you fill out your TPS reports correctly". I mean more along the, perhaps seemingly existential, lines of whether you are doing the thing you were meant to do in this life.
If you have found Wealthy Affiliate, the chances are you have asked yourself this question before. Whether flat out, staring in the mirror, in a heart-to-heart with yourself, or more subconsciously where you have this feeling that something is missing with your chosen career path.
I have experienced both in my journey, and I believe it is the most important question we have to answer in our lives. Whether you believe that yourself, doesn't really matter. To me it's similar to believing in gravity.
We are all very different people, with unique skills, passions, ideas, loves, hates, experiences, vices, etc. For me that means we each have a unique path that will fulfill us and allow us to express our uniqueness to help make the world a better place.
I think that is at the core of all of our lives. Many, myself included, get dragged onto paths that don't serve that end. Mostly because we buy into some purpose that has more to do with societal egoism than following our own true path, but I digress; a little.
So, ask yourself these types of questions often in regard to your journey here at WA. Does this feel right? Am I excited about this? Whether it's choosing a niche or writing a post. Does this reflect who I am, or who I want to be?
Although I believe this is the perfect place to follow and express our individual genius, it is still possible, even easy, to get drawn onto a path here at WA that has little to do with the real you.
So listen to yourself. Take advice from everyone, but always put your own vision first. We all build castles in the sky, they are all unique and beautiful particularly to the dreamer.

For the first time in my life I can honestly say that I am in the right place at the right time. That holds true in both of my passions. My art is like my website. Not a lot of traffic yet but getting there. Currently waiting to hang a show in a gallery tomorrow.
Not making much money yet, but that pales when compared to the satisfaction I get from the business/life decisions I have made to this point.
That's awesome, Candace. This thing will take time, but if you are passionate about what you are doing and it feels right, the traffic and money will come in due time.
More importantly is that it will mean much more than earning a wage without being connected to the work.

That's a very profound statement you made, James that could easily get overlooked. As fabulous as many of us see Wealthy Affiliate, if we don't check ourselves periodically, we can just as easily just go through the motions, as many do with their 9 to 5 jobs.

Thanks, Veronica. I think our world has become designed to distract us from our true course. If we aren't diligent in checking in with ourselves, we will be off course very quickly.
That amounts to simply playing a role in someone else's dream. I don't think anyone in the world is fulfilled by that sort of life.

This really comes down to striving to present our authentic selves to ourselves and to the world.
Exactly. It is terrifying at times, and yet, what are we doing if we aren't presenting our authentic self to the world?
Chances are we are living desperately unsatisfying lives. People everywhere are certainly doing just that, and it crosses every line that society draws; race, gender, economics, politics, country.
If you do not represent your true self, you are forced to adopt a voice that represents someone else. Often that comes from one or all (among others of course) of the above mentioned.
But that will never bring happiness to the individual and only creates further divisiveness in the world around us.
I really appreciate this dialogue, James. It's something I need to have more of, with myself and others.
I just took a quick peak at your bio a gain; I was wondering if you had a background in psychology or something. But, then again, there are those whom are just naturally insightful and aware. Or, I believe the phrase of the day is "woke".
By the way, did you change the feature image of this post or am I just having a senior moment?
I appreciate the dialogue as well, Veronica. I did not change the feature image, but perhaps images change as our perspective does.
I am definitely not a psychologist, but I certainly reflect on my own experiences and those of others.
I have come to realize that When I am speaking my own truth people listen, and when I am trying to speak someone else’s truth, people turn a deaf ear.
Even if the message is the same, if I am not connected to that message no one else will connect with it.
However, more important is that I am connected to the message, that is the only thing that is real to me. I cannot control how people respond to the message, but I can control whether I am telling my own true story.

Taping into your own truth is something that Oprah speaks of regularly. I think you would make a pleasant addition to her network... seriously.
That’s humbling Veronica, and I appreciate that. Every one of us is a life coach if we are real to ourself, and no life coaches are needed in that same scenario.
But if you know Oprah, and want to set up a meeting, I would be more than glad to meet with her.
She’s one of my favorite people in the world. I think a great deal of her success comes from having the courage to follow her true voice.
It’s very easy to talk about it here, very different to live it every day. She has done that, and you can see the dividends of that courage.
Meeting Oprah is definitely on my Bucket List, so if that should come to pass, I would definitely put in a good word for you, James.
I never thought of it, but you're right, everyone really can be their own Life Coach. The challenge is, I believe, twofold: knowing that you have the power and tapping into it and using it for good.
