Day 11 Adopting New Habits
Oil Pulling is a very old ayurvedic practice. There are several health benefits associated with practicing this on a regular basis. By pulling oil on an empty stomach you get rid of the toxins which have accumulated in your mouth overnight. The antibacterial and antifungal properties of coconut oil make it great for this. Oil Pulling improves both oral and general health.
This is also a great way to integrate the use of coconut oil into your life. See Day 6 adopting New Habits.

Some of the benefits of oil pulling are:
Better oral health
Whiter teeth
Heals bleeding gums
Cures tooth decay
Combats bad breath
Prevents cavities
Boosts the immune system
Reduces inflammations
How it is done:
First thing in the morning take two tablespoons of coconut oil in your mouth but be sure not to swallow it. Do this on an empty stomach. When you do this before eating or drinking anything in the morning you avoid swallowing toxins which have built up in your mouth overnight.
Swish the oil around in your mouth, also in between your teeth for a good 15-20 minutes. When you are in a hurry 10 minutes will also do - better to keep up with the habit even if you have less time than not do it at all.
After a while you will feel the consistency change and the oil becomes foamy. This is the oil "collecting" all the bacteria. If you continue it will become more fluid again.
Spit it out into a paper tissue and throw away. DO NOT SWALLOW and avoid sitting it out into the sink as this will clog your drains!
Brush your teeth and rinse using some warm water with salt.
Leaves your teeth feeling really clean and fresh. :)
At first you might need a few days to get used to the taste of the coconut oil but after a few days you won't even notice it. The rewards are far greater than the perceived unpleasant taste over a few days! :)
See you tomorrow
Vee

I haven't ever heard about oil pulling but I love to eat coconut oil on sandwiches, usually almond butter and fruit. The idea of not ingesting it is foreign to me since its pretty tasteless.

Hi Erica,
you can ingest coconut oil, only NOT the oil in your mouth after pulling. It has collected all the bacteria in your mouth and swallowing this will only leave the toxins in your system, which is what we are wanting to avoid in the first place.
Otherwise I cook with coconut oil everyday, use it on my hair, my skin and for a variety of other things.
There are loads of articles and info on coconut oi. I also have an article about it on one of my sites.
