Earthquake is hitting Italy right now
Italy is shaking! And although the epicenter is in central Italy I was able to feel the earth shaking even here in the extremely North while I was sitting on the couch! It was 45 minutes ago… and it was a strange feeling… but it was very soft and nothing happened.
Watching the quake map it seems like it doesn’t stop, there are quakes every few minutes! http://www.3bmeteo.com/terremoti/italia
I hope everybody in Italy is fine! And also in the rest of the world...
Take care,
Gerlinde

Guys, watch https://www.youtube.com/user/dutchsinse and his updates for ALL over the WORLD! It is more on the way!
Feeling a earthquake is quite frightening, the stronger it is the more frightening it is. It makes you feel that your home is going to become your burial place.
I do know it, as I lived in central Italy for some years and I had the chance of experiencing a very bad one in 1982 or 1984, I can't recall exactly. It was above 8 on the Mercalli scale, which is almost 7 on the Richter scale I think. I was at home with my mom and the house started shaking and swaying horizontally then up and down, for 30 very long seconds.
Thank God the house was built to resist so we had only one crack, but guys, it was really bad. And one week later a 7 degree Mercalli followed, along with thousands of aftershocks. I found the noise very terrifying.
Cats and dogs feel it coming a few minutes earlier. They start behaving strangely, cats mewing as if they want to mate, and dogs trying to pull people away from buildings (I saw my dog doing it with my brother). Also, the gases released from the earth make the moon appear veiled with an eerie circular "fog". Creepy.
May God protect people from earthquakes all around the globe.
Hi Alma!
Yes, 30 seconds can be very long, when the earth is shaking... I remember a few stronger earthquakes years ago in Italy, too! But still not that harmful because our houses are built in a very strong and massive way...
Strange, but my dog didn't notice it today! She was outside and behaving as usual... ok, it was very soft in my area...
Thanks for commenting, Alma!

I think animals react at the incoming earthquake near the epicentre. In that occasion, I was 4 km away from it. Plus, being a seismic area, all people living there know abou it.
Thank God you live very far :)

My prayers go out to the people in Italy.
