Warning to everyone who uses Filezilla

The latest version of Filezilla also downloads malware called Binkiland. It will highjack all browser types and try to go to its website when you launch the browser. It's very annoying and hard to get rid of.

Please be careful until Filezilla remediates the problem. I know we all have close relationships with our browsers.

Thank you Filezilla for this nice little gift :-(

Thank you for this warning! :)

I have had success before by typing into google " How to remove
such and such malware virus. If you feel like going through the
process it should be worth it. Just don't download anything else
in the process. If the instructions say download this. Choose
a different option.

Yeah! And Google Chrome does and also javascript and another one... what a mess!

Don't we love malware....not!

Which site did you download it from?

https://filezilla-project.org/ is where i downloaded it

Okay. I went to the same place. However, I downloaded the .zip file instead of the .exe, ran a quick scan with my AV, and it didn't pick anything up. I unzipped the file and ran the program with no problems. I even restarted my computer for good measure, ran the program again, and checked my browsers with no issues.

Try downloading the .zip file instead.

Thanks, good to know!

Hi Lynn,
I feel very bad abut this because you've installed this following my tutorial.
Why they include this junk I don't understand as it's only going to give the software a bad name.

This was why I mentioned in the video to "decline all".
But they do try and trick you because they make it look all normal with an "agree" button or something like that.

I've made a note and will update that tutorial with some screenshots on what to avoid during the installation.

I hope you've managed to clean things up.

Hi Welshy
The version that was a bit older wasn't a problem. seems to be the newer one. Please don't feel bad. We are all victims using the internet when so much malware exists. Especially freeware, we take our chances :-)
Lynn

Hi Lynn, I've just been looking into this and can see how and why his is happening.
Not so easy to explain.
Basically, when you click on the default download image link you download an app that's really a bundle downloader.
If you click on another option the image goes away and a link appears, this link has the default clean installation software.
I'm going to create a video youtube channel and make other aware of this, but I'll also be updating that tutorial because nobody needs that extra junk installed.

For anyone wondering what I'm talking about, please see this screenshot http://take.ms/zITN0
I'll be updating my training covering FTP

Thank you for sharing this info.
Many of us use FileZilla.

Thanks for the warning.

Thank you.

Thanks for the warning! Much appreciated.

you're very welcome, good luck.

I remember when I downloaded Filezilla there were a lot of "extras" bundled with it but you can choose not to download. Is that option still there with the latest one?

I'm not sure, i don't remember seeing any other options to choose. and now i'm afraid of trying again

I remember seeing Welshy's training and I see he's updating the info, should be good for you to try again. :)
