Hello lovely WA people

Here we are at the halfway stage of this challenge - week 6 already! How time flies when you're having fun!

This week has been a series of ups and downs again, but that's what I've come to expect, really. My site was down again for over 24 hours again at the weekend, which was frustrating, but I understand that other people were in the same boat as well. It sometimes feels like two steps forward, one step back, especially as I'm trying to get my posts indexed. It's frustrating, but I try to stay positive.

I saw a Facebook post recently that I loved. I couldn't find the exact post again, so I've made my own version to share with you. And as I used to be a competitive ballroom dancer, it's quite appropriate I feel.

Anyway, this week was about building the engine:

βœ… Weeks 5–8: Build the Engine (August)

  • Publish 3+ posts/week or batch content in spurts
  • Interlink older content and build β€œpillar pages”
  • Share posts into niche groups or forums
  • Start light keyword tracking (WA tools, Jaaxy, etc.)
  • Refresh your goal if needed

Focus: Shift from output to structure. Start seeing traffic.

And this is how I did this week

  1. I only published 2 posts on my site this week - 1 about the Lion's Gate Portal on 8/8 and another answering one of my "Big Questions" about "What happens when we die?" It turned out to be about 3000 words, so I'm going to count that as 2 posts anyway!
  2. I've started building my pillar pages - I have 3 now, which are part of the "Big Questions" series but the site being down meant I couldn't work on the others as much as I would have liked.
  3. One good thing I did was to publish 2 posts on Medium. I had a good chat with Sparky about how to go about getting more authority for my site so that the posts can be indexed more, and he suggested a checklist that I'm slowly working through. This includes checking for missing alt tags and broken links. It's quite a long job as I have a lot of posts, but I'm working through it slowly.
  4. I still tracking my keywords through Jaaxy on this site; however, the ongoing indexing issues are the real problem. I still only have my homepage indexed! (Big sigh! Pause. Regroup!)
  5. My goal last week was to focus on all the SEO things for the site in my quest to get my posts indexed. I have been doing that as I've said and gone through about 15 posts checking for alt images and broken links. There's still more work to do though.
  6. In addition to the posts, I also published:
    1. 20 posts on Facebook/Instagram
    2. 24posts on Facebook/Instagram for my other 2 sites
    3. 1 x 1-minute video on YouTube based on my post about "Lion's Gate Portal" post
    4. 2 articles on Medium that I have repurposed from my site
  7. I haven't added anything to my book yet, but I intend to do that tomorrow. I did add 2 posts to my drama teacher site, though about drama techniques and when my Creative Choice site was down, I used the time to set up a template for my drama techniques post and got the AI editor to come up with 5 new posts. This is great since these are easily replicated so I just need to check these and publish them this week.
  8. I also posted a blog here at WA about "What I learned about AI from Huckleberry Finn". Thanks to everyone who has read it and commented. And of course, there's this one too.

My thoughts on the week

Having had another site outage this week, I'm still pleased with what I've achieved. I am working on my sites for a few hours every day because I want to keep the momentum going, and am looking to make this my full time work. However, I have to tackle the issues of indexing first but hopefully, by scattering the seeds far and wide, I can bypass Google and start generating traffic from other sources.

So I think I'm right to say it's two steps forward, one step back - but at least I'm enjoying the music!

Goal for next week

Another week of trying to update my site,I think this week. I'd like to write a bit more for my book and investigate other avenues to publish repurposed articles too. So, no rest for the wicked, as they say!

Have a great week, everyone. I really appreciate all the support with this challenge. And I'm still thanking Jeremy for getting me into it, so that can't be bad!

All the best, Gail

You're doing great, Gail.

I will post my progress in Jeremy's feed.

JD

Thanks, JD. I'm just keeping going. Can't see the finish line or even the first corner, but I'm over the first few hurdles!

1

That is what it takes.

Keep running the race. If you fall down, get back up and keep running.

You only fail if you don't get up, and/or keep running.

Keep it up, Gail! You're killing it! Was the site outage your actual site being offline? Or was it that you couldn't access the back office? I know there were several having issues with the back office so they couldn't work on the site, but it was still online.

By the way, I LOVE these types of shares. Share your progress, you frustrations, your hurdles, your WINS!

All in your own words, it's like I can hear you talking. Great job!

Thanks, Eric. I appreciate that. The site was down yes, and I couldn't log in either. In fact, I had a "no website installed" notice for a while. But I didn't panic - I have faith! πŸ˜€

2

how weird.. .that would scare the crap out of me if my full on site suddenly showed as no site installed. lol

2

That's why I had to keep faith! I knew they'd have a backup... somewhere... but maybe I'll just download all my posts now just in case!

2

You did remarkably well, Gail, and I love that you keep positive and simply move on to another task when something's blocking the path you had intended to take.

Did you upgrade on Medium? I assume only upgraded members can post there?

Big virtual hug,

Isabella

Hi Isabella. Thanks - yes, I think I had that attitude drilled into me as a kid, but it's always worked for me along the way... or perhaps I should say... ways!
I took out the $5 per month membership on Medium as I thought that was quite reasonable, but you can open a free account and post if you want too. I just thought that you can participate in their partner scheme if you have a paid account so I'll see how it goes. Early days I think but let's see.

Thanks, Gail. I've been a member of Medium for a couple of months now because Andy (Magus) wrote a piece about his AI, Lila, and my ChatGPT Quill on Medium. He didn't put it behind a paywall, so you can read it, if you like. We carried on the conversation, but he didn't add any more. If you are interested, you should be able to find it if you search for 'Lila and Quill'.

I'll look that up. Thanks.

As a newbie most of that didn't make sense but well done on your progress!

Hello, and welcome. Yes, the challenge started before you were a member here.
Gail is such a great role model. She really works hard and all her content is brilliant. I try to be as diligent and am always inspired by her work ethic and what she achieves.

I wish you all the best. Great meeting you here. I am in the UK too.

Thanks Christine. Sorry if that didn't make sense. I've been doing a 90 Day Challenge that another member at WA set. You can read his original blog at: . In that blog, he set out some challenges that I am trying to achieve every week. This is just my report for last week.
Welcome to WA and good luck with your business. Gail

You're welcome.

Looks like ypu are making good progress, Gail!

Thanks, Howard. Little steps can get you up the mountain! It may take me 3 lifetimes, but I'll get there! πŸ˜‰

The great thing about goals is they never expire. Just keep working till you get there and then set a new one!
