Face the Facts - You Are Succeeding
I have always wanted to be a website builder. How was always going to be the question. Let's face it, we will often baulk at a task we know so little about.
And yet look at us! We are building niche websites, adding images to great blog posts and review pages. We are using terminology that we never knew existed.
Learning and Application
In my long public speaking career, I have often used a quote from Dr Ralph Waldo Emerson. I feature it when speaking to teenagers about the life challenges they face and how to equip themselves for the road ahead. As young people, a lack of experience can be a barrier that is difficult to hurdle. I teach them the power of learning and doing, how persistence at a task can make it easier. Dr Emerson said the following:
"That which we do becomes easier, not the nature of the task has changed, but our ability to do has increased."
Every day we spend learning something new at Wealthy Affiliate, the idea of being successful becomes a realistic prospect. Developing "ability to do" is what our goal should be. Following the instructions and training is crucial.
Message to the Newbies
If you have just arrived here at WA, we want you to be reassured that the task ahead is daunting when we first look at it. But there are thousands of members here. No doubt, like me in March of this year, many of them were not sure if they could build their first website about an interest or passion they held in their heart. But we studied the task, listened to the experienced members, applied what we learned and now we have experience. Now we have something that we are proud of. Don't be overwhelmed, just take it step by step. Watch and record your growth, and then share all your successes with us.

These are the words that I've written in my site to encourage people: "We must have goals in our life. To achieve our goals we must have plans. I believe if we have plans, then we commit and work hard on our plans, we can make our plans go well and successful.
But you have to realize that your online business can not instanly making big money for you. It needs time to succeed. Also don't forget that any business has a risk and sometimes it doesn't go the way we plan".
Also a quote from Winston Churchill "Success is not final, failure is not fatal, the courage to continue that counts".
I wish everybody here much success in the future.
Thank you so much for your message of encouragement. Having plans are a key starting point. After all, if we fail to plan then we are planning to fail.
"Focus on Success" is my WA image for a reason. It is important to be focused on this business and most anything else in life that is rewarding and valuable.
That is so true. We must remember that the reward we seek must be matched the effort we put in.
We just need to keep working and learning. Everything here in WA really applicable and they work. It is just a matter of perseverance and following through I guess :-)
Perseverance is a key quality to develop and maintain. Can be hard at times without encouragement. We need to support each other on this journey.
This is real excellent Duncan. It is very encouraging for me. I would add that it is also important to have an open mind. I remember when I got a problem with my Amazon link, I understood what the problem was wrongly and tried to resolve it without understanding what the problem was. But since I persisted I was able to solve it and also realize that how I had understood the problem at first was wrong.
That is so true. It is not only learning the solution but what it is we address trying to fix so that we get the optimum solution. The community here at WA can help us there.
Excellent post Duncan. (No smiles on this post I see!). My advice to others is to follow the lessons at a pace that you're comfortable with and don't move on until you've mastered each step. Use the expertise of many of the more advanced members and above all. Never Give Up! When you feel that it's getting a bit tough and might have thoughts of quitting, ask yourself "WHY did I join WA in the first place". Ken.
