Unsecure site caused by http image links

Hi

I am not allowed to create trainings yet but I want to share this small piece of knowledge. I discovered that my domain dmgartphoto.com suddenly was unsecure.

This surpriced me somewhat since I had only added a few pages and a couple of post - as far as I remembered that is. When looking closer at the triangle message I discovered that it complained about unsecure images. Looking further into it, I concluded that the problem must be related to images with url:s like http:// (and not https:// as it should be).

Looking into the page source I found two images having http://.. urls and they belonged to my affiliate link for Thomann. When receiving my affiliate link from Thomann they hadn't to set it to https and I didn't recognice it while adding the link to my page.

Editing the links to https fixed the problem. So you shouldnt always trust copy paste even if the source is trusted, check what you actually insert before saving.

/Cheers

Good tip, assumes that the image is stored on a secure site.

If your affiliate partner allows you to download the image to your website, that is a better solution in my opinion. That way you can use "short-hard" for your website name (usually a "/" and that automatically behind the scenes adds the http or the https. That way, it may also make downloading the image for your visitors slightly faster - as their computer already knows where your website is.

Thanks David, downloading the image make sense. Will check with Thomann if they have any objections.

That was some great detective work, and wonderful advice, I have seen a few people complain about their sites suddenly not being secure, I wonder how many have this same issue?

Thanks. Could be the same problem. I had anothor ssl issue when setting the site up but, that was just a matter of setting SiteSSL to On in the Website Details.
