When Are We Going To Get There?

Well, It's now 7:00 pm and I've been at my PC since 9:00 am, just another day. Same as the last one and no different from the next. Since October of 2012 when I got laid off from my rat race job, I've been writing away, day and night. I really want to make my internet dream happen for me and my family and I'm not afraid to work for it.

In fact, today I wrote a Squidoo post for my health and wellness site, and a post for my Dog Blog, and I have one more blog to write not counting this one. It's been months now, I've written 60 post for one site and 27 or so for the other site. I've made video's, and I've posted videos. I've done all of what I can do this point, on my own. That is why I'm here at WA to learn more.

But there's a nagging question that keeps hounding me, and it takes me back to a time when I was a little guy. I'm in the back seat of the 56 Belaire with the family. Dad, mom, my sister and myself. We are headed to my Grandfather's house, it's about a 3 hour drive on a good day. My Dad is notorious for taking short cuts. And he takes the kind of short cuts that get you there a tank of gas, and three hours later.

And like all kids when your forced to endure a trip like that, remember there were no video's, gameboys, Ipods, or cell phones, nothing to do but count cars, or try to get truckers to toot their horn for you.

Needless to say you get a little restless. This one time, my mom was mad at my dad for taking a short cut. For whatever reason, I just happened to say to my Dad, "Are we there yet" and I followed it up with, "When are we going to get there?" That just angered my dad and tickled my mom silly.

My Mom was about to piss her pants, she was laughing so hard. My dad was red in the face and I was smiling from ear to ear just because my mom was laughing. My Dad says " almost there," follow by "we'll get there when we get there".

I guess the point of this is that I'm working my tail off, I'm writing as much as I can, I'm learning as much as I can, and I'm not just learning, I'm doing as much as I can. I watch videos, I take notes, then I apply what I've learned, After hundreds of hours of work, 60 posts on one blog, 30 on the other. I just wonder, Is anybody reading my work, does it even matter?

The only way to know is Google Analytic's, but without traffic it can't tell me anything except what I already know. I need traffic. And Bing and Alexa aren't much help either in this black hole of Blog Limbo. Does Google know I'm trying to get ranked over here! And the question begs to know...when are we going to get there?

I guess it's like my Dad said, I'll know when I'm there, because I'll be there. Is it just me or do you all feel this way as well? And for the people who are through the black hole and see traffic and sales The question is, "When are we going to get there?"

Your story made me laugh! We found ourselves in the car headed up to my mother in laws. Finally after several years we had all four of us in one car together. My 21 year old daughter, 19 year old son, and the wife and I.
I say to them, wow, it has been quite a while since all four of us have taken a trip together!
As I turn around and put the car in drive my 19 year old says " Are we there yet?" We all bout fell out of the car laughing. Be patent and ask questions like you are doing right now. Get some feedback from people here who are making money, and it will happen. :)

Thanks

Oh, I forgot, talk to Tony, he will be happy to help you out. Be sure to read this page :)

Hi there, know just how you feel. With the amount of effort you have put in and got no results to date, I would pause and ask for some advice from Kyle and Carson, and any members here who can help from their experience. This will help you going forward to revise your current strategy and become successful. What I would not do is quit because you will (I think) always regret doing so, and after all the advice you get here is free. Good luck going forward.

Patience is the name of the game as you can glean from the replies here. Stick with it and give it a little time. Best wishes!

Wish you much success.

Hey Frank,

It's nice of you to share your thoughts and concerns, but you might as well be aware that 98% of the people trying to do what we are doing are going, or have gone through the same frustrations and doubts you are experiencing.

I read tjmoore's excellent response to you, and I was surprised, but not shocked that it took him 6 years to start getting some traction. That's a lot of perseverance on his part.

I agree with the concept that you should look at other ways of marketing, but I would say be very careful that you don't fall into the trap I have fallen into...I have been at this for about 3 years without much success. The trap I have fallen into is to work at one method intensely for a while and when results don't materialize, I start looking for other better strategies.

Because of this, my overall goal for 2013 and beyond is to focus, to narrow my activities and concentrate my efforts on a few tried and true strategies as you have done. I envy and admire you for having the narrower focus that kept your efforts concentrated.

I don't have any magic answers, but I'd like to share with you Brian G. Johnson's signature quote:

People don't fail in online marketing. They just quit before the MAGIC starts.

Me, I'll keep plugging along until the magic starts.

All the best,

Juan

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate it. And yes i'll keep on swimming until I get there.

I personally do not like google analytics. I found a free tracking system, footprintlive, and i signed up for quancast, so this helps me with keeping track on who and how many are visiting, i submit my sites to pingler after i write a blog, and i submit to online classifieds. i also did some more research this morning and searched google for "free advertising" and came across an article 50 free advertising tips. you may want to check that out, and i also learned you want to keep your goal in front of your mind and look for ways to improve your marketing everyday. :)

You are not alone in your thoughts. Many, including myself, have asked that very question. THIS is the reason 97% of the people who start an IM business fail. They don't see the results, or they don't see them fast enough.

I believe part of this is due to not fully understanding the marketing business. In order to make money we need to market, then market, and then we have to market. Again, that's why they call it Internet Marketing.

But that wait can be grueling at times. When we go for long periods without any response the marketing we do, then perhaps it is time to change the marketing strategies and not just quit. There are so many ways to market things. I know some may cost money, but there are a whole lot of free methods that people do not use to their fullest. Chris Farrel and I have the same philosophies when it comes to marketing expense. Don't do it if you don't have to. We believe in free marketing and get great response to it.

But your question all comes down to your financial needs. We we are suddenly faced with the loss of income, we want to find a replacement for it right away. The IM business is not the place to look. IM takes a long time to build the type of income we are used to let alone what we want.

I am not saying this is your mindset or anything. I am only trying to point out our mindset for this business must be one that is in it for the long haul. Rather than getting frustrated, we turn that frustration into action. We look for alternative ways of marketing. This is what will make money.

It took me 6 years before I made my first sale. It took a few more months before I started getting more frequent sales.

I pray for your financial success. I want you to be successful. But always keep your eyes open to the potential around you. Look for alternatives and then take action. I know you will succeed.

God bless.

Thanks TJ, It helps to know that it takes sometimes years, for a blog to develop. I'm encouraged by the thought that I'm not doing things so wrong, as much as I am not giving it the time it needs to mature. I won't give up on it because I never give up on anything I want.

Track down "mission ops" member here at WA... He posted a blog tonight, is fairly knowlegeable and is offering a helping hand for those that need it as someone helped him.... give it a shot.... Kyle, Carson or Jay would also give opinions as well.
