About Profitbyjuan
Joined July 2011
Hi, my name is Juan.

I am retired from Eastman Kodak Co. after 30 years, spent mostly in international marketing. I traveled extensively all over the world...have visited 50+ countries at last count.

The best part of all that traveling was the wonderful people I met, and befriended in so many countries, and in different cultures. The worst part of the traveling was being away from my family for 3 to 4 weeks at a time, and usually 3 times per year.

My main interest now is learning how to profitably market online, so that eventually I can help other people who are just starting their online marketing experience.

I now live in San Diego, California with my wife of 41 years. Our only daughter and her family are also residents of San Diego.

Hey Juan, thanks so much for the follow. Sounds like you have had a wonderful life. So out of all the countries you visited what was your absolute favorite?
Reply
profitbyjuan Premium
Hi Audrey, I would have to say it's Chile, because it's a beautiful place, especially the southern part of the country where I was born, and lived for the first 17 years of my life. The second best (actually a # 1 tie) is the USA. I have spent over half a century in the beautiful USA.

I just returned from a trip to Chile after a 23 year absence. I have a huge family there. I went with my only daughter, married, with two wonderful little boys.

My daughter was born in Rochester NY and had never met her Chilean family. The trip and the few days with the family she had never met were truly memorable for both of us.

Americans travel all over the world, but few have visited the beauty of South America...they just don't know what they are messing!

All the best,

Juan

My wife and I have been married 41 years. We visited some friends in San Diego soon after we were married, and we both fell in love with this city and this part of the country. But I worked for Kodak, at the company headquarters in upstate New York, Rochester, right on the shores of Lake Ontario...beautiful country, if you don't mind being buried in snow 6 months out of the year...the natives there love winter (is that sick or what?)

My retirement made it possible to move to San Diego, and we love every blessed day we spend here.

Good luck in WA and in IM in general.

Hi Juan, thanks for following me, I hope Egypt is one of the countries you visited :)
Reply

Yes, as a matter of fact I visited Cairo a number of times. The first time was in 1972 and I was kicked out of the Hilton Hotel because president Nixon was making an official US State visit for the exact 2 days I was there. So I not only lost my room, but I couldn't visit the Pyramids, because Nixon was going there too and security was extremely tight.

Oh well, I just had to make another trip to Cairo. My last trip to that beautiful city was in the late 1980's.

But I guess much has changed since then.

All the best,

Juan

much changed than you can imagine, specially after the revolution. anyway if there will be any chance to visit Cairo, I will be glad to help :)

Sorry Merian, I have my dates wrong. My visit to Cairo together with president Nixon had to be around 1974, still it was great fun!

I wish I could say I will be back soon...I was traveling on behalf of Kodak, so they paid the bills. Now I am retired and not able to make around the world trips as I used to do.

I bet one thing hasn't changed in Egypt, and that is the friendliness of the people. Everyone I came in contact with back then was kind, helpful and friendly...this is something you don't learn watching the news on TV; you have to be there in person.

I consider myself very lucky for all those trips. I have a special place in my heart for the people of the Middle East. I visited 4 or 5 countries and I always enjoyed myself in your part of the world.

I noticed you worked for the "Big Yellow Box" I live near the home office. Looks like you got out in time, hope your pension isn't too badly hurt by the recent bankruptcy.
Reply
profitbyjuan Premium
My pension is safe, 90%+ funded, and legally, Kodak can't touch it. However, as of this coming New Year's Eve, all medical benefits that were backed by Kodak will cease to exist for all retirees. I had to purchase a replacement, with less benefits and a substantial monthly premium.

I understand that Kodak can't continue with the cost burden they had. But when that general comment affects one directly, it does little good "to understand" why it has to be this way...I have to find a solution for my wife and I.

I there! Im new and had a question... say i start my website through wealthy affiliates and then later down the road cancel my subscription, do they take my website down along w it?? Hope its not too dumb of a question, but like i said, im new! Lol thanks!
Reply
profitbyjuan Premium
It's not a dumb question at all because I went through that same situation about a year ago. I had decided that I needed to cancel my membership to WA for a while, and I assumed that the moment my membership was cancelled all my websites would disappear.

Not so, and BIG mistake on my part because I deleted all the websites that were less important to me, and I kept one or two that I had to have.

Well, the weeks and months went by and my two remaining websites were still hosted at WA.

Was this a glitch in their system that allowed me to "fly under the radar?" I don't think so.

Kyle and Carson are two very smart and kind people, and were probably betting on the fact that I would come back to WA.

Well, here I am back, and I deleted all those websites needlessly. At the very least, if you decide to leave, you can contact Kyle or Carson and ask for their help in transferring your sites to another hosting company. I'm sure you will get all the help you need to make the change.

Hope this helps,

Juan

Thank you Beverly, but you must remember that I am also one of you fans at StreetArticles. I think you are probably the most prolific writer on the web.
But I want to know your secret: how do you manage to write so many quality articles on so many different subjects?
All the best,

Reply
BIS Premium
Thank you that's kind of you to say so.

Actually Amie Nogrady - beats me by a mile over at Street Articles - she really does write on absolutely loads of subjects.

I have concentrated in some specific areas but I will expand the breadth in time. I also write on different subjects elsewhere.

My view is that if you have an interest in a topic and things to share why not write about it? No subject is off limits as long as I feel that the reader gains something from what I've written.

Best wishes

Thanks Salem, I enjoyed your comments about writing...very useful advice.

I was "invited" to retire from Kodak in 1997, along with some 10,000 other people... many of them did not qualify for retirement.

Kodak was hurt by digital photography...common knowledge, right?

What most people don't know is that digital photography was "invented" in the Kodak Research Labs around 1972. But what do you do with a new technology that destroys your most profitable products?

All the best,

Juan
Reply
Salem Premium
Yes, Paul Bowman (if you ever happened to meet him at any meetings) got me up to snuff on the very first (and horribly expensive) digital cameras. He also told me the downfall of Kodak was not wanting to rock the boat and keeping up with the new age. He said film was so profitable at the time and dividends so high that no one wanted to be the one to bring in change. Hence, the sinking of Kodak. He wisely took his retirement in cash.

Thanks for your comment on my blog about the shooting. Yes, that was good news and sad at the same time. Just to think that someone is that messed up to do that is very disturbing and scarry to think about what we are in for as a country. As I have said many times, removing the old traditions from the classroom I feel was such a wrong move for our children. So many are brought up with no principles, the ones that made this country great, and do not even know what we went thru as a country to maintain them. Such a shame. Have a great holiday with your family and hug them all a little tighter this year and pray that the new year brings new awakenings for alot of sleeping people.

Hello Juan,
My name is Tommy Stuart and I am Scottish by birth but now living in England. I was once a millionaire but lost all my business during the 1980's recession and so had to start again literally from scratch and without a penny to my name.

I now have a successful debt management company (Do you have such business where you are) the website for it is www.debt-mentor.co.uk and my wife mainly runs it with 20 staff. I am looking to become successful in the internet and for this reason joined the W A 5 weeks ago. I am attempting to build a website www.wealthyaffiliate-dude.com and it would be nice to compare notes.

I have been married 3 times and have may children one of which is a qualified CISCO (an internet expert) living in Switzerland and earning £5000 every week. I'll tell you about the other another time.

Good luck to you and let's hope we both get to vegas
