Spotting The "Tell Sign!": Em Dashes And AI-Generated Text ?

Hi WA Friends!

There’s so much content online these days, and it can be tough to tell if what you're reading was made by a person or an artificial intelligence.

Here’s a tip: keep an eye out for the em dash (—). This punctuation mark usually means that you're reading something created by AI!

What’s The Difference Between Em Dashes And Hyphens?

You might be wondering, what's the big difference between an em dash (—) and a hyphen (-)? It’s more than just their length. They actually have different jobs:

  • The Em Dash (—) is a longer mark that adds drama to a sentence. It's like a pause that makes you pay attention. Em dashes are used for emphasis, interruptions, or adding extra info to a sentence.
For example: "The guitar—my favorite instrument—needs new strings." It's a way to add a little flair.
  • The Hyphen (-) is shorter and more low-key. It’s used to connect words like "high-quality" or to split words at line breaks. It’s more like a behind-the-scenes helper, not trying to be flashy.

Em dashes are used to make writing sound more interesting. AI loves them because it "thinks" they are flexible and help writing sound more natural.

How Do You Make An Em Dash?

Here’s where it gets tricky for us humans! Making an em dash isn’t very easy, even if you know the right shortcuts.

On a Mac, you press Shift + Option + - (hyphen).

On a PC, you either use Ctrl + Alt + - (on the numeric keypad) or Alt + 0151, which can be a bit awkward.

You can also copy and paste it from somewhere else if you can't remember how to do it. For most people, it’s just easier to avoid using em dashes because they’re hard to make; it’s just simpler to use a comma or a period instead!

But for an AI, em dashes are always easy to use, without needing any tricky key combinations.

How Can You Spot AI Writing?

If you think the text might be AI-generated, look at the punctuation, especially the em dashes. It’s like when someone tries a little too hard to sound cool and ends up overdoing it. Lol 😎

Phrases that can be a sign of AI-writing:

Em dashes aren’t the only sign of AI; here is a list of some of the phrases AI likes to use (generated by ChatGPT! Lol 😆):

  • In today's world...
  • It is worth noting that...
  • This is due to the fact that...
  • Interestingly enough...
  • As previously mentioned...
  • One might argue that...
  • In conclusion...
  • Given the current circumstances...
  • It can be observed that...
  • Let us explore...
  • Another key point to consider is...
  • Many experts agree that...
  • Undoubtedly...
  • This brings us to...
  • Overall, it can be said that...
  • With this in mind...
  • As a matter of fact...
  • At the end of the day...

As you can see, many of these phrases were commonly used (and still are) by humans. That's what makes the em dash so valuable in picking out AI!

Final Thoughts: Em Dash Or Hyphen?

Next time you see an em dash (—), think about whether the writer is really into punctuation or if it could be AI-generated. It’s a fun way to spot AI involvement.

Em dashes are cool, but if you spot one, just know what you’re dealing with!

Tell Me What You Think!

Do you actually go through the trouble of using em dashes when you write an article?

Do you remove the em dashes when you create an AI-generated or AI-assisted article?

Here's my question:
What will you do when AI evolves to the point where it decides it's not going to help humans write articles and create videos anymore, when it can simply flood the internet with its own content that is infinitely better than anything it could assist us with?
I'll be playing the guitar. Lol 🎶

Let me know in the comments, AND ...

Keep On Rockin' It! 🤘

And, ... Watch out for that Kraken playing riffs from hell!

Do I detect AI written content here Frank?????

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Rock the rest of your weekend buddy!!

👍🍻🎸😎🍸🥂🍾

Hahaha, Yup! 👍 😎

Rock On, Nick! 🤘🍻
Frank 🎸

Rock On buddy!!

🤣👍😎🎸🍹

Good morning Frank,

Thank you for your blog post, an interesting post!

As you know, I'm not a lover of AI content, but I do use AI as an assistant and helper!

Interestingly enough, your article kind of lines up with my question, but not quite! I will put the link below. I like the classic AI words you mention, but you have missed out the famous "Delve" and of course, don't forget that Wealthy Affiliate is an ecosystem!!😄

I do use a few dashes, but I also use Grammarly, which I'm starting to dislike more and more. Ever since they introduced AI in a larger way, it has become much worse. I also don't go with the woke narrative; there are a lot of settings that people do not realise that you can change. Grammarly does pick out those silly mistakes, especially as I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking, but it's also quite annoying and gets lots of things wrong — but I'm still using it!

Have a great day Frank and keep on rocking.

Roy

Hi Roy

I answered your question on Yeah, "Delve" plus a zillion other words and phrases. That was just a short list! Lol I singled out the "em dash" because not many people know how to manually add it to their original content - mostly professional writers.

Eventually, everyone will assume that everything is written by AI, even if it isn't, and the problem will become moot. I have a friend who can barely speak or write in full sentences, and he sends me these beautifully constructed AI-generated emails.

These days, you need to have in-person meetings to assess someone's abilities accurately. 😎

I like Grammarly Pro quite a bit, but it does need to be configured to each person's preferences. It will suggest changing hyphens to em dashes, by default.

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

Thank you for helping me out with the question, I will have a look at your reply shortly. When I was writing the question, I thought that would be a question that Frank would be able to help with. As I know that you have gone quite deep with AI.

The word "Delve" really does seem to be one of AI's favourites! Yes, I'm sure you could have written an extremely long list, Frank!

Do you really think so, Frank? That doesn't sound very good to think that everything will be written by AI. It's good to use our brains!

I hear you, there is something good about meeting people face-to-face, Zoom-type software is the next best thing!

I haven't been into Grammarly's settings recently, Frank, maybe I need to check again. I was quite shocked at the way they were potentially trying to make me write, which I didn't think was very clever! I also use Grammarly Pro, Frank.

Have a fantastic Monday.

Roy

Hi Roy

What I meant to convey with my statement “Eventually, everyone will assume that everything is written by AI, even if it isn't, and the problem will become moot,”
is that people will become more and more tolerant of AI-generated content, until it becomes the “new normal.”

As AI continues to make us more efficient, perhaps people will use their free time to learn to better themselves in other ways, becoming more spiritual and artistically or musically creative.

An old guy like me is not likely to change much, and as long as I can play music I’ll be happy. Lol 😎

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

That's the very concerning part for me, Frank! For example, if I was looking for reviews on Wealthy Affiliate, I want to read someone's genuine experience, was it good, did they make money, etc! Now, 95% of the reviews are just AI fluff, I hope that I never get used to that!

I guess it's the same with the mainstream media; many people believe the lie, but don't cross reference to see if it's accurate or not.

I'm not sure if AI can make us more creative, Frank. I know that you love music and you have listened to many various types of musicians and guitarists. Each one of them are very different and unique, do you think AI, can replicate the same uniqueness? I have my doubts, but I have been wrong before, many times!!😁

Have a fantastic day and keep on rocking.🎸🎸

Roy

Hi Roy

Yes, there are many potential concerns with AI.

What I was referring to is that AI can make us more efficient by freeing up time which would have been spent on more mundane tasks.

We could use this extra time to pursue other more creative things such as learning to play and instrument or paint.

There will be big money in using AI to create and edit music commercially. However, I’m not interested in this.

I just want to play my own music on guitar and have no intention to use AI, except as a recording and learning tool.

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

Thank you for our interesting conversations on various topics on the Wealthy Affiliate platform, it's appreciated.

I see where you're coming from, Frank, and it makes a lot of sense.

I couldn't agree with you more; it's great when tools like AI can be used to make mundane tasks much easier. I guess it's like the Internet; it's so wonderful that we can order literally anything online from the comfort of our own homes! We don't even need to go to a travel agent to book a flight, it can just be carried out in a few clicks!

They talk about a dog being man's best friend, but I think for someone who doesn't enjoy retail therapy, the Internet is also man's best friend!

As someone who really likes people, Frank, including your good self! I really enjoy everyone's uniqueness and find it amazing how we all have our different quirks. We don't want that taken away from us, but I do very much see your point in using AI in the right way, which I'm trying to do.

Wishing you a fantastic and rocking Wednesday.🎸🎸

Roy

Thanks, Roy! 🙏

It’s a rare day when we don’t get packages from Amazon, ordered online - mostly by my wife. Lol 😎

Have a fabulous weekend! 🥳
Frank 🤘🎸

It's always a pleasure, Frank!

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving time. It's something that we don't really celebrate here in the UK, but of course, we have Christmas coming up very soon. According to my Webmaster in the US, Thanksgiving Day is almost bigger than Christmas Day.

I really think it's marvellous how we can order things online, Frank, it's not just the convenience of not undergoing the town, but such a timesaver! I think quite a few households are like that, Frank, regarding packages.

Last night, I was sitting in front of my computer and next door were having a grocery delivery just before 10 PM; amazing! It may not have been quite so amazing for the delivery driver, though!

My grocery shop is being delivered this afternoon! It's wonderful! Realistically, if I had to go into town, it would probably take me about 2.5 hours plus fuel and wear and tear on my car, which I take into account. Thumbs up for online shopping, especially for someone who doesn't like retail therapy! 👍😄

Have a fantastic weekend, Frank and keep on rocking🎸🎸

Roy

Hi Roy

Yeah, we had an awesome Thanksgiving with family & friends! It's always a huge eating day. Lol

My wife adores retail therapy! Haha 😎
We get weekly home deliveries from two supermarkets, but we also go out to our favorite specialty shops several times a week to get various gourmet items. I think it's important to run errands, especially the ones we enjoy, because it helps put us in the company of others - not to mention the exercise.

More and more people are opting for a predominantly home confinement lifestyle, with most everything being done online, which I think can be unhealthy, especially for children.

When I was small, there wasn't much to do inside, and the TV only had three channels to choose from, so we were mostly outside playing with others our age.

Frank 🤘🎸

Good morning Frank,

That's great to hear, Frank, it sounds like a wonderful occasion!

Many of the ladies love retail therapy; I find that I quickly get bored of retail therapy!

I couldn't agree more, Frank. The downside of online shopping is that it's not very sociable. Believe it or not, I really like people and their individual character. So I know exactly where you are coming from. If I was working full-time online, I could potentially stay in the house without having to go out at all! Something that I wouldn't want to do, as in staying in the house all day and every day!

You are right, Frank; children today have a totally different way of life to what we did when we were children. I don't think it's particularly clever what's happening at the moment. We used to use our imagination and do things outside when we were young. I have always loved the outdoors, hence my lifetime interest in agriculture and the outdoors, etc.

Exactly, Frank, there was no daytime television and we wouldn't have been allowed to watch the television the day anyway. How times change! Now we're sounding old!😊

Have a fantastic day.

Roy

Hi Roy

Yeah, the right mix of technology and face-to-face social interaction is crucial, especially for children.

My wife & I routinely host get-togethers with family and friends at our home.

I wanted to mention that I will be fully retiring from my medical practice in January 2025 at 70 years old, and this will be my last month as a WA member. I'm super excited to start a whole new lifestyle, although I'll miss our conversations and interacting with all the wonderful members here. I'll be posting a farewell message in a week or two, but some of those posts are apparently being taken down, so I wanted to let you know in advance. 😎

All The Best & Keep On Rockin'! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Hello Frank,

I agree, Frank, I think the Internet is fantastic and other technology as well! However, it is very important to get that balance right, especially children, they need to use their brain and demonstrate their uniqueness, etc.

That's such a fantastic thing to do, Frank, it's good to have family and friends around for dinner.

I'm pleased that you are retiring early next year, Frank, as I know that you have plenty of exciting things that you want to do. It's wonderful that you have achieved so much at work by helping others and also enjoying your job.

I'm really sorry to hear that you are leaving Wealthy Affiliate; that will be a big loss, Frank. I hope that you will keep your website going, I appreciate that you will need to find some hosting. Have you thought about downgrading to the premium level? That way, you can keep the hosting and still have some interaction and training. It's just a thought!

I will also miss your chats on the platform, Frank. Are you going to be hanging out on any other platforms?

I wish you all the best and keep on rocking.

Roy

Thanks, Roy 🙏

Realistically, I don't foresee that I'll be doing any further online marketing going forward. I have been splitting my daily musical time between playing guitar, watching concert videos on DVD and Blu-ray, and affiliate marketing.

I have been able to make this work by writing a lot of my website and WA content drafts on my iPhone when I'm not at home and getting additional playing guitar time done while watching the live WA classes at night.

Now that I am fully retiring, it looks like my wife and I will be busier than ever doing the things we enjoy!

I thank God every day that he has kept me in excellent health at 70 years old, and I'm hoping to get another 10 to 15 years to enjoy my life and family (& maybe more) before my health begins to fail in a significant way.

Luckily, we really don't need an additional income since we can retire and live well in a non-extravagant manner.

I'll be checking in on the Digital Matrix Cafe Forum regularly, and you can always message me there. I added it to my WA profile so others can contact me, too. 😎

All The Best!
I hope you get back to playing the guitar! 🎶
Frank 🎸

It's always a pleasure, Frank!

It sounds like you have been very organised with your time, Frank, which doesn't surprise me one single bit! Good for you for doing what you do!

I have heard many people say that they don't know how they had the time to work after they retired! So you may well be right about being busy!

I sincerely hope that you can have many happy more years to enjoy yourself with your wife and family and friends, Frank.

It's great that you have enough money to live on and to retire on; Bravo to that!

I thought that you may be on the digital forum, Frank. I have put a few posts up there, I also write occasionally on a few other platforms. But Wealthy Affiliate is the main platform I write on. I should really be doing more on LinkedIn.

I'm really pleased that I will still be able to connect with you, Frank.

Don't forget that you can always come back to the platform at any time!

Thank you, Frank, I would like to get back to playing the guitar soon; let's see what happens.

Have a fantastic weekend.

Roy

Thanks, Roy

Yes, I have been reading your posts on that platform. 😎

I hope you’re having an excellent weekend! 🥳
Frank 🤘🎸

It's always a pleasure, Frank!

You're going to be greatly missed on the platform.

I don't spend huge amounts of time on the other forums, but I do like to write occasionally on other platforms, etc.

I also think we have to be careful not to be too critical about various platforms, I don't want to be in a position where we are running down something. We have to remember that nothing is perfect in this world and all of us get things wrong, especially myself!!

I'm glad that I have signed up to Wealthy Affiliate for another year, I did have a few thoughts about leaving. However, I like the idea of having up-to-date training, the community and being able to ask the question, all in one place. I think the cost works out at about £1.20 a day, which is pretty good! I spend a lot of time on the platform, maybe too much time!

Have a fantastic day and keep on rocking.🎸🎸

Roy

Hi Roy

Yeah, I agree that everything in life has challenges, and that WA is an amazing “all-in one” place for online marketing! It’s a bit like the Land of Oz, with such interesting characters. Lol

I typically frequent guitar player sites, where “anything goes,” and highly technical scientific sites, where everything is very precise - so WA is like a breath of fresh air.

The cost per day here is fantastic, but honesty, it’s just time to move on past online marketing.

Without challenges, the world would be a very boring place. If I could immediately play anything I wanted on guitar I’d probably never pick one up again. Haha 😎

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

It's great to have a friendly Internet marketing training platform, Frank. I generally start my day by replying to a few posts on the platform. Although that's not quite true, I normally look at the weather and then a few news headlines and then on to Wealthy Affiliate.

It certainly is an "all in one place" for online marketing, with some great characters and interesting people.

I know where you're coming from regarding Wealthy Affiliate being a bit of fresh air. There are some fairly aggressive type platforms out there which are nowhere near as friendly. Kyle and the team have done a great job of keeping the platform friendly and clean.

I do understand where you're coming from, Frank. The platform does offer excellent value for money, but sometimes, it's just time to move on. You will be greatly missed.

That's a very good way to look at things, Frank! We all have challenges that we have to get over, we have to learn to be overcomers!

Have a fantastic Monday and a great week.

Roy

Thanks, Roy!

Yeah, I really love a good challenge, and when it becomes easy, I usually lose interest. Lol 😎

That’s what is so great about music; it’s fresh every day with wonderful challenges!

I suspect that art is the same way.

I’ve always had a mind that’s more creative than analytical, but I can exist nicely in both worlds, and I thank God for the gifts he has given me to make sick people well! 🙏

Have a Rockin’ week! 🤘
Frank 🎸

It's always a pleasure, Frank!

Yes, I can believe that you enjoy a really good challenge, Frank! We are all geared differently, which makes life interesting.

Until I picked up a guitar, I never realised how much effort goes into playing a musical instrument! It looks easy when we see someone playing and natural, but it's not quite like that; it takes practice and lots of!

That's a wonderful gift to have, Frank, to make sick people well, fantastic!

Have a fantastic day.

Roy

Hi Roy

Yeah, music is one of those things that can be easily tailored to anyone's needs or desires.

I know guitar players who can only play five or six basic chords, but they know a fabulous repertoire of songs and sing along with the music, prompting others to join in!

I'm on the other side of that spectrum. What's fun for me is taking the guitar to its musical extreme, trying to master every chord, scale, arpeggio, timing, speed, phrasing, etc. It's what makes my playing experience different every day.

The main goal with music is to have fun with it. For musical hobbyists like me, nothing else really matters! 😎

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

Until I picked up a guitar, I didn't realise how fantastic music was, even though I had always enjoyed listening to music!

Yes, I can believe that, Frank! It's amazing how some musicians know very little technical stuff about music and yet almost have a natural gift to make the guitar work, etc.

I would have definitely guessed that Frank, as I feel that you really like to get into the nitty-gritty of everything your guitar has to offer and more!

If a hobby gets too serious, I believe it can take the fun and joy out of it!

Have a great day.

Roy

Hi Roy

Yeah, I'm a bit strange that way with music. The more complicated I make it, the better I like it! Lol 😆

I guess I'm just a curious guy.

Luckily, I'll never run out of new things to learn on the guitar. The permutations of how things can be musically phrased are mind-boggling, and I'm not even talking about learning new songs. 😎

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

I believe that as you know the make up of music and everything that goes with it, Frank, you want to go very deep on the subject. We are all different, which is great!

I can believe that Frank, a musical instrument like a guitar, offers so much, more than most people can imagine.

Have a fantastic day and keep rocking.

Roy

Hi Roy

Yeah, and that's just the guitar. Once you factor in what can be done by plugging it into various amplifiers and effects, it becomes insane! Lol 😎

Happy Friday! 🥳
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

I hope that you are all doing well. I'm guessing that you don't have long left on the platform. Maybe you need to put a countdown timer on your profile!

I agree with you, Frank; I was very excited when I purchased my first Zoom multi-effects pedal, a real boy's toy! The guitar is an amazing instrument!

Wishing you a fantastic weekend.

Roy

Hi Roy

Yeah, I have several multi-effects pedals, including the Zoom brand and digital guitar amplifiers (Line 6, etc.) that model classic amps and effects.

They are all very cool, but I'm a bit "old-school," so I like hooking up individual pedals in series, both analog and digital models. They allow me to turn actual mechanical dials to make changes on-the-fly instead of scrolling through digital menus while I'm playing a guitar. I think it's much more conducive to the creative process.

I have dozens of pedals; many of them are vintage from the 1960s and 70s, so they're worth quite a bit of money, even well-used.

I have until December 22nd on the platform.

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Hello Frank,

That's interesting that you have a Zoom brand of effects pedal, I'm sure that my FX pedal would be well out of date with today's standards. I can believe that modern amps can replicate many excellent sounds of an old classic valve amp.

I think I went from the effects pedal to individual pedals which were linked together, I can't remember the name of the brand now.

I hear you regarding changing the settings, etc, it's much easier to turn a knob than it is to scroll through multiple menus on effects pedals. I guess the advantage with the digital pedals is the settings stay the same, whereas knobs can be turned accidentally when setting up, etc.

I'm sure your collection of guitars and associated products is extremely interesting, Frank. Do you have everything listed so that your family now what's what?

You have just over a week left on the platform, then, Frank, I wasn't sure that was until the end of the month. Make the most of it!

All the best.

Roy

Hi Roy

Yeah, there are pros and cons to all types of musical equipment.

I have insurance coverage for all my equipment with approximate resale values that I update every year or two.

My wife knows who to contact to fairly liquidate my collection, should anything happen to me. Until then, I intend to use it all that I can, especially when I fully retire next month. 😎

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

Yes, I believe that. I guess some manufacturers don't know how something will work until it's tested by the public.

I thought you probably would have something down on paper, Frank, as I know that you're very organised and very wise.

Have you ever made a video or photographs of your collection? I do believe that your collection is probably fairly unique. It's wonderful that you're going to make the most of your musical collection, Frank; I sincerely hope you enjoy every moment and I'm sure you will.

Have a fantastic day and keep on rocking.

Roy

Hi Roy

In the guitar world, "collectors" buy guitars as investments to sell for a profit, sometimes years later, and they never play them.

So technically, I don't really fit that definition since I play all the instruments I have bought or made over the years. Lol 😆

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Hello Frank,

Yes, I can believe that and it probably happens in quite a few industries or hobbies, etc.

And that's a good thing, Frank, you're actually using your instruments for what they were built for and at the same time enjoying them! Fantastic!

Enjoy the rest of your day and keep on rocking.

Roy

You can see some of my guitars on my profile page, Roy. I built about two dozen of them after doing a three-year apprenticeship with a luthier. One can end up with quite a bit of musical equipment when playing for 55 years. Lol 😎

Frank 🤘🎸

I actually saw the photographs the other day, Frank, when I was looking for a picture for the blog post that I wrote about you leaving the platform. What an amazing collection of guitars, but also wonderful that you have built up such a collection of instruments. It's so wonderful to have a passion for music and other things in life.

55 years is a long time to have been collecting and playing the guitar!

Have a fantastic day.

Roy

Hi Roy

Yeah, I still have and play my two guitars from middle school and high school. Lol 😂

I play two to three different guitars a day, so I cycle through most of them every month.

I don't really build guitars anymore since I don't have the proper power equipment in my home repair shop, but I do seasonal setups, electronic mods, re-frets, etc.

In New England, the temperature changes can mess with a guitar's intonation, etc., although my studio is nicely temperature-controlled. 😎

Frank 🤘🎸

Good morning Frank,

That's wonderful, Frank, how nice that you still have those guitars and still play them.

I think you would call that dedication going through all your guitars in a month! Amazing!

Even though you haven't got all the equipment, Frank, it's great that you are able to do so much maintenance on your guitars. I don't know how long the average fretboard lasts, but the amount you play, Frank maybe not very long. Although, you spread it across many guitars!

Yes, I can believe that guitars can move with temperature changes. It sounds like you have the perfect conditions to care for your guitars!

A very happy Friday to you.

Roy

Hi Roy

Yeah, with all the guitars I play fret wear is not a problem.

I played the first Strat I bought in high school so much that I wore all the polyurethane off the back of the neck and the frets were worn down so low that string buzz and intonation was a significant problem.

Back then, the person who re-fretted the neck did a bad job so I ended up having a replacement neck made by the well-known builder Phil Kubicki.

Frank 🤘🎸

Good morning Frank,

Yes, I can believe that; if you are just playing one guitar all the time, I guess it may be a different story.

He had obviously played your Stratocaster a lot, Frank, to make it wear that much. Although I don't know much about the subject, I can imagine that you really need to have someone who knows what they are doing when it comes to guitar repairs and rebuilds, etc.

A very happy Saturday to you, Frank.

Roy

Hi Roy

I wore the finish off that replacement neck, too (lol), but I had it built with Dunlop super-jumbo frets. They are much taller and wider, so I leveled and re-crowned them when I did a guitar-building apprenticeship for three years, and they still are fine.

Guitar frets and strings are typically made of nickel, which gives them a particular “tonality.”

I also have guitars with stainless steel frets that will virtually never wear down. They are sometimes used on the more expensive guitars but produce a “harsher” sound that most players don’t appreciate.

Some of the most expensive electric guitars come with nickel frets for that reason.

These days, you can buy electric guitar strings made from a wide variety of metals for various sounds and types of playability.

Of course, a guitar’s pickups play a crucial role in the sound, too, as well as many other factors like nut material, etc.

Rock On! 🤘
Frank 🎸

Good morning Frank,

I just noticed that you have written 410 blog posts within Wealthy Affiliate, that's good going! That works out at around 80 posts per year!

Must admit I didn't know that some fretboards had nickel in them, that's amazing, but I'm sure it's very hard-wearing.

I'm sure with all your guitars you have all sorts of different types of fretboard and have found your preferences.

With all your guitars, you must carry out a terrific amount of restringing!

Wishing you all the best.

Roy

I actually use the em dashes in my writing. If you are using Word, which is what I use to write my posts, they are quite easy to make. At the end of a sentence where you want the em, just hit space -- two dashes and another space, then your next set of text and Word will turn it into an Em Dash. I agree with you on the phrases, but this makes it difficult for the people who actually use them. The way I tell it is AI is either too formal with too many phrases like those, or it is too informal with too many idioms and slang words.

Nancy

Hi Nancy

Yeah, I avoid the em dashes because they are being overused by AI and we could get penalized for it by platforms that are attempting to check for AI-generated content.

Have a great weekend! 😎
Frank 🎸

Hi Frank!

Yes, I go through and remove the em dashes. I don't like how AI places them. I don't use them. Grammarly does not like them either.

Thanks for sharing—great content! (Like the em dash?) 😁

You’re welcome, Howard. 😎😎

Frank 🤘🎸

Happy Friday, or we used to call it Friyay. LOL

Hi Frank, your are churning out some great posts. I know a lot of the PC alt strokes, many a time I have gone through them until I found the one I wanted, but I have never known the names of them. I expect there has to be a download you can have nowadays.

Rob

Thanks, Rob!

Yeah, there are hundreds of keystroke combos. I only use a few, and one of them is not the em dash. 😎

Frank 🎸
