Do You Surf With The Alien?
Hey, WA
For all you Rock and Metal Fans, I wanted to remind you that today is guitarist extraordinaire Joe Satriani's Birthday! Also known by his fellow admirers as "The ShredMaster General!"
Born on July 15, 1956, he took up the guitar after the death of Jimi Hendrix in an attempt to honor him by taking his music "a step further."
For those who do not know, Joe taught guitar and played small venues for many years as an unsung hero of his musical genre.
Joe's pupils included Steve Vai and Eric Johnson. Steve usually plays onstage in all of Joe's "3G" (3 famous guitarists) concerts, and Joe, Steve, and Eric played together on the same stage during the 1996 3G tour.
His ability to build melodies around esoteric scales separates Joe from other famous metal players. This gives his playing a sense of beauty, emotion, and haunting "otherworldliness," at times sounding as if it was composed by someone from another planet.
Is Joe an escapee from Area 51? Not likely, but sometimes you have to wonder. If this music intrigues you, I highly recommend grabbing your headphones and going "Surfing With The Alien!"
Happy Birthday, Joe!

Really? Thatโs great! ๐
If he likes Rock and Metal, Iโm sure he is well aware of him.
I hope he is getting lots and lots of play-time in.
Maybe he can check out my guitar site, if he gets a minute, and let me know what he thinks.

I've definitely heard of him, Frank! He is a metal god, indeed, my friend!

Hey, Stephen
Proof positive that you Surf With The Alien! ๐๐๐ฅ๐
In your screenshot, those amps onstage were Peavy Joe Satriani prototypes. They were essentially Peavy XXX heads, rebuilt to make the high-gain channel more aggressive, therefore the name Peavy JSX.
They are no longer available and Joe is back to using Marshall heads and cabs.
The first Marshall was essentially a rebuilt Fender Bassman amp with EL34 power tubes substituted, because they were easily available in England (Mullard brand EL43, back then).
I have one of the earlier versions of his signature guitars and five Marshall amps (a little piggish - I know). The Marshall in my studio rack is a stereo amp (no preamp) with EL84 power tubes ("valves" if you're British). It's fed by a Digitech stereo effects tube (12AX7) preamp.
Sorry, I got a little carried away here.
Hmmm, it looks like my friends at WA are having a positive reaction to this post, I might write some more on this idea.
Congrats, Stephen, you officially Rock! ๐ค
