Working on roofs

Many stress the importance of good foundations for a house, but... without a good roof the building will soon rot!

The past year I was confronted with the restoration of many roofs. Old well laid roofs that needed repair. Asking, for prices, most so called experts wanted to replace the whole (with a not so friendly budget, of course) .

So, we bought some tiles and replaced the old ones. Our roof, looks better than ever. At no cost.

What did it learn me?

It learned me that craftsmanship has not the same morals as in old days when sources were scarce. .many of those so called experts are driven by money. This ends with a waste of material, manpower and money. And their advice without value. Be warned...

If your car needs new wires, you will not buy a new car. Right? Unless your wires are more expensive than a new car... hum. If that ever happens.

So, their is always a cheap and better solution than the so called standards. Take your tile. Study your case and act accordingly.

What is the use of a beautiful head, if you can not use your hands...

Hup up. DIY!

Do it yourself is often better than done for you... It takes time, commitment, study and engagement. And working on a website is no other...

Hey Fleeky,
This is true about so many things today!!! It's so much easier to let someone else do the work for you than to DYI it yourself. But you will learn so much when you do the work your self!! So why not give it a try!!!

Tried and True

Elaine

Hi Elaine... yes...
time is so precious...
it is wasted in so many ways...
we should always aim for added value...

thank you!

What you said about today's craftsmanship versus the craftsmanship of an older era is absolutely true. Older craftsmen took great pride in their work. Seems like today, workers just want to get it done as fast as they can for as much money as they can.

DIY is indeed the way to go if you can. Not only are you saving money but you are teaching yourself a skill that you may be able to use down the line.

Craftmanship today tries to do in one day what takes weeks. There are No shortcuts for work well done. You need to go the full lane. Let it dry...

No pride any more, no quality and no beauty... just an uggly mess

yep. I agree

And those who dare... are creating eternal beauty
(Like the piramids)

Hi Fleeky!
I’m impressed you can do that work yourself. It is very satisfying when you can accomplish a job with your own two hands.
Just as it is satisfying when a post on our site gets indexed.
Good analogy, thanks for sharing.
KyleAnn

Hahaha... true...

Working wIth both hands frees the mind, clears up a lot... and once done... wOw

Look at the beauty of that roof...
Its lines, its composition...

Ever worked on roofs?

NOOOO
Gosh no!
I am dizzy when I step onto the second floor.
But you're right, there is beauty in it

Yes... roofs are not for everybody... needs a lot of expertise and sense of acrobacy too

T.he quicker the better.
So nobody wants to know if the Quality is getting along with this attitude.
But not keeping up with high Quality if one wants to have a beautiful blog is necessary.
So your Reminder is good.
For me, Wa is the foundation for this.

Hi Marrion

Yes time is an important factor too...

Last year, with bundant rains, we had to work quickly... just closing leaks. Waiting for better weather... not time for details...

This year was superb... We had time to work out... peace of mind again, now that it is done...

So, yes, we have to wait for right circumstances to-o

Have great day, thank you for you kind comments...
❤️

My pleasure Fleeky

For me WA is the roof: security, speed and great service!
And that at affordable price...

Good analogy fleek. Now don't let the rain come in!

Oh well...

:-)

Hi FLEEKY
I am most impressed that you fixed your Roof . We spent a lot of money with so called experts that made other leaks occur .Thank you for sharing .
I have not heard from Dragonfly Sandy Have you Please let me know if you have .
Blessings
David

Hi David,

Sad but true... lots of money and very bad wOrk... we have come to the conclusion that what our ancestors did (building their homes) we can. Not with modern bad material, but just restoring what they did so well and wIth so much eye for beauty and durability...

No I have not heard from her...

Many blessings

I will do most DIY jobs but my vertigo won't let me do a roof! Glad you were able to get yours done Fleeky.

Derek

I hold the ladder Derek...

Well said my friend- A website is no different- Everything can be done :)
Thank you
Vicki

Yes... Unless you have vertigo... ;-)

Yes :)

But you can hold the ladder...

I'll be right there :)
