Some affiliates take longer than others, and some just plain stink.

Also, there are many affiliates that will want to know how much traffic you have coming to your site also.
Techhound (Jim) has some great tips for you.

Hey Kyle,

When you deviate from the networks, i.e., Amazon, Commission Junction, LinkShare, etc., who knows what you will get in the way of affiliate managers. If you are looking for stop smoking affiliate programs, you could also try ClickBank. There's also nothing to preclude you from doing Amazon and those other independent, should they eventually get back to you.

As Michelle (@Michelle04) has also stated, if they list a phone number try giving them a call. Explain to them that you plan on using ethical methods to market their products and if they feel like you are too new tell them you are a member of WA.

Try looking for other programs within the bigger networks too. But I would advise against applying for many programs at once. Affiliate managers like their affiliates to be active in their promotions and that is difficult to do if you try to do many at a time.

Best Regards,
Jim

Okay that makes sense! Thank you for the help Jim! I just applied to the Amazon Affiliate program so no I am going to work on getting some solid content and reviews on my site!

Hi. If you aren't hearing right back, that is probably not a good sign. You might try reaching them by telephone, if that is possible.

As for Amazon, they use to give you 3 months, but that seems to have increased to 6 months for your first sale. I know their commission is not great, but it does give you more time than it use to.

I've also had an affiliate marketer not get back to me, but I didn't have a lot of content at that time and wondered if that was the problem. Some do look over you website before making a decision.

Oh i did not know they bumped it up to 6 months. I could definitely make a sale in that time. I just have been slowed down because I havent published any posts because the training says to set up one with an affiliate, but since they arent responding I might as well go to amazon.

Do you think some could be scams trying to get personal information?

Honestly, I don't know much about the smoking niche and what those companies would be like, but it is highly possible that you found some bad ones just wanting information to sell.

Since you need to sign up with an affiliate, I would apply with Amazon. In the meantime, keep writing and writing some more. :) Also, keep looking for other affiliate companies, as well.

I have looked throughout the community and have not found my answer yet. I have been able to make sub-categories on each of my menu items, of which the posts are linked.

I once heard someone say just paste it into the page, but you guys have clearly come up with much great advice!

If you use this free plugin to silo your site, it will make this process a lot easier for you and your site will be linked properly: http://blog.catstechtalk.com/recommends/freesiloplugin/

Instead of making "about-smoking" a page you can make it a category in the menu. Any future posts you make will have to be under that category (I see you have done that with your existing ones). You won't be using an actual "page"

To do this you have to go to your dashboard > appearance > menu, then instead of adding a new menu, click the "categories" drop down and choose the correct category there. Save the menu.

I think this is what you are going for?

Yes, Yes, Yes. Thank you!

Lol I did some asking around on the live chat and found that if you insert the URL of the category than you can create a link, then it works as the same function of a page.

When I tried to make a category like you suggest, the website is re-directed to a page that says "page could not be found". I dont know if I did something wrong, or if this is what always happens when categories are made like this.

I just added the link and titled it whatever I wanted the page to be.

Thanks for the input!

Hi Kyle,

You can change the categories of a post at any time. It's always a great idea to have all of your posts categorized. This will make your site easier to navigate and it will make for an overall great user experience.

Google will rank your site higher as a result.

I hope this helps!
Scott

Thank you Scott!

If they are not ranked yet, you can go ahead and change the category. Having the post categorized will give it a boost.

Thank you! Awesome
