Yesterday was filled with yet more great lessons on building agreat website. There are several great training videos and posts that I found really helpful. All of which can be found here on the WA platform.
Some of these are more review points and others are fresh new information. Well, at least for me.
Importance of SEO
I do not think that this point cannot be stated enough. For those of you who do not know, SEO stands for search engine optimization.
Put more simply it’s whether or not google likes you enough to rank you in the first two or three pages.
So, what does that mean for you? I mean how do you get google to like you? It can’t be that hard can it? It really isn’t. Here is a great lesson on the basics of SEO.
Let’s get into some of the new stuff I learned now. Email subscribers.
This is a bigger thing than it seems. Anyone who gives you their email can now receive notifications of your most recent posts. This starts to build a base of people that are always at least seeing that you have new stuff.
That alone will make them think about looking at that new stuff one day. The next step is a little trickier.
How to get that Email? Some people will just have a small box on one side of the webpage that says subscribe and you can choose to put your email in or not. Great for a solid older site that has a good following, not so much for the starter out.
So, what do you do? Offer something. What? But I’m not a sales site?
You don’t have to be a sales site to offer a weekly newsletter of your posts on an e-book on your niche subject. And it’s a great freebie to get someone’s email.
Comments and SEO
We are back to SEO again! This is important! So, what can comments do for your SEO? It shows google that you have traffic. Google likes traffic. If people are coming to you, then it is because they want to know something.
At least that is what google thinks.
Take advantage of the sitecomments platform! Use it as often as you can to get as many comments as you can. It will make google and other search engines like you.
No, really it will.
The more traffic you have, the higher rank you will get in google and other search engines. It shows that people are engaging in your site and not just leaving because they have not found any value.
All of this will always come back to content. If one person is commenting on this post then maybe this post has what I need. So, I will start reading.
Does the intro paragraph catch my attention and address the need or problem that I am having? I will read farther and find out if the post is what I am looking for. If I got what I came for, then I will leave a comment because someone else left a comment that brought me to reading the post.
A great big circle. Gotta love that circle. The biggest benefit will be that when someone finds your content helpful they will come back again. All because you took the time to get those comments.
Backlinks and SEO
There is one other part to comments though. They do not just have to help the person that you are commenting on. I bet you never thought to paste your URL into that little box with your required name and email.
Go ahead, do it.
What you just did was create a backlink. Why are they good for you? This gives your site connection to more reputable sites. Here is a great training on how to use backlinks in your business.
Well, isn’t that using their reputation to your benefit? Yes, but that is not all a bad thing. For a site just starting out backlinks can help your ranking in google by piggy-backing on these bigger sites.
I do not suggest that you get too wild with any one type of SEO technique. They are all a double edged sword. Well, except maybe comments. Too many backlinks can make google mad at you. At first when you don’t have any take your time to cultivate your pool of backlinks.
As soon as you are a decent rank in google, cut back a little.Slow down on how many pages and comments you add backlinks to. I am not saying stop because it is still a good part of SEO. Just not so much as when you were just starting your site and building your pool of backlinks.
These are just the most recent things I learned in this great place we are all enjoying. I will always thank Kyle and Carson for building this great platform.
All of this training and so much more is here on WA. I will be adding a subscriber block to my page and deciding how to incorporate a freebie into my site so that I can get people to give me their email.
I am also going to spend some time on the sitecomments platform trading comments for sites with people so we can help build our SEO. Speaking of that, I won’t forget to leave my backlinks and subscribe to their site as well.
Remember we all want to succeed here so take the time to help everyone out so you can get the love back!
