Why do I write?

A fairly new passion for me, as a student I hated writing and it was usually because I had no idea what to write about or how to make the writing interesting to anyone includes myself. I am not a professional writer not even a content writer but I am a person that writes to have a voice about the things I love in life. For a long time I didn't feel love for much so to have so many things that I do love there is so much I can write about.

One of the things that I enjoy doing is writing on a picture every day. I take photos that I have purchased, taken by someone I know, or royalty free photos this is really the best way to use or modify a photo so that you do not get into any legal issues then I will write something that I feel from that picture. I try to relate the photo to a human experience or emotion that is connected to my niche. In the beginning it was something I did occasionally but then I started to get responses on my posts and it really gave me a lot of satisfaction.

They say it takes 21 days to do something for it to become a habit so I have been doing this now for about six months or more and this is how my day begins. My writing as brief as it is gives me a start on my day with a really good positive feeling. Throughout the day I will check my social media and see that there are people that also were impacted by my moments of writing. For me writing brings me a sense of gratitude, focus, and something to look forward to throughout the day.

Will I want to do more writing?

As I am increasing my writing abilities I also am I looking for more in my writing output. I have written an ebook on acknowledging grief and I have a manual that is not published but I will be finishing that in the near future. The manual is a 52 week themed writing journal for healing grief and I believe that having a theme to focus on during a time of grief helps on that journey. During coaching sessions with clients I always have them focus on one theme at a time and it seems that it works on this healing path. I am a firm believer in writing in any format that works when it comes to working through emotional pain.

In the future there is a plan to do a memoir about the conflict from within throughout my life. Now, again I am not a professional writer and I do not feel I can teach you how to write but I can teach you to have a voice and if you feel the passion to put that voice in print then you must do that. As a special education teacher I did spend time helping children write reports and essays on subjects. With writing there is too much time spent on perfection but that is what editing is for and editing should be done by another person.

I recall teachers telling students to write it the way you say it and in today's world that would never be my advice. There are so many dialects most are created by new generations that when you write the way you say it you will most likely sound illiterate. My advice would be to write and then rewrite using the best language possible. Another trick that I use and have also advised my students to use is a thesaurus which is such a great tool to boost your vocabulary and intellectual presence with your writing.

As an amateur writer there is great joy in seeing your ideas in print and knowing that my message can empower another person gives me motivation to keep writing. The chance of becoming the next fantasy novel writer is slim but I do see a future in writing journals, self-help books, personal memoirs and non-fiction short stories. There is a small magazine that AA puts out and it is created every month by other AA members. The names are first with last initial and each article is a personal story by a person in AA. I love the idea of this type of print and maybe one day I will do something similar with people that I know have a story to tell.

What Is writing for me now?

Today writing is fun unlike when I was forced to write in school. The writing I do today is about what I believe is important and it is a priority in my life each day. I write about so many things. My thoughts can be about nature and it's beauty or struggles to overcome. As people, we have emotions that are not stagnant but fluctuate from one emotion to another and my writing pretty much does the same. I am not a stagnant person and my writing will tell you that story about me.

When I think it I write it and then I post it for everyone else to identify with it. It may not make sense to everyone but as long as my writing makes sense to me and hopefully one other person then it is well worth every thought put into print. Maybe, you have something inside of you that needs to be voiced then try to write that. The other great thing is nobody has to read a word of it unless you make it available to them. Don't do what I do, instead find what will work for you and then do it until it is ingrained into your soul. Writing is a gift that some have just like singing and speaking are gifts that others have.

Your reasons for writing and your aim to help others through the crises of grief, is a great motivator and needed message. Go girl!

Thank you so much for the kind words and I appreciate the feedback. My goal is to help others on a healing journey so they can make sense of a horrific time in their life.

Thank you so much for this wonderful blog post, Eva Marie. It has made my day. It is only 9:30 AM where I am living, but now the rest of my day will be great no matter what happens, due to your amazing piece of writing.

If the day should turn a bit "dark" ,I can turn to this little piece of yours and pull myself up

You struck a nerve in me (I don´t even know if this is the right expression in English) resulting in "the feel good" mode.

You say that you are an amateur writer, but I have to agree with Brenda and Jeff that you are a natural and should maybe consider levelling up your writing passion several notches 🤩

I think you would do great as a writer no matter which type of writing you do.

Please keep doing what you do.

That is so wonderful of you to say and I appreciate your kindness but more importantly that I struck a nerve. Great compliment!

Sounds you have an excellent gift of doing this. That sounds like your writing on photos is your passion. Grieving is something I can personally relate to. I lost my husband 6 years ago to Pancreatic Cancer. 20 years of marriage. I grieved during his illness and after his passing. Art was my outlet. I spent 3 years doing nothing but art. All kinds of art work, I did them. That helped me to get through my grieving. I’ve moved past that. Now focusing on building my business in affiliate marketing.

Thank you for sharing and grief during a terminal illness is as painful. Elizabeth kubler Ross actually wrote about the 7 stages of grief based on a person dealing with grief before the death. I am sorry for your loss and it’s good you found your healing path through art. I am glad you commented and good to meet you.

What a wonderful post, Evamarie! I have loved writing for quite some time, and your writing is excellent!

Keep doing what you do, and why not write a cool fantasy story too, while you're at it, my friend!

Enjoy your upcoming Wednesday HUMP day!

I spent too many years in a fantasy world LOL but I get it I would rather just hang out on my porch or at the beach or something like that to escape reality.
