1977 Star Wars is released
On this day the first of George Lucas' blockbuster movies hits American theatres.
Who doesn't remember Darth Vader, R2-D2, Han Solo, C-3PO, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker and last but not least Princess Leia.

I rode to the movie theater in the middle of town, two miles away, in the rain, on my bike! (This was in Beaufort, South Carolina)
At that time we did a lot of crazy things and found it totally normal. Nowadays this is called irresponsible.
Yes, you are right. It created a new movie genre and it changed the way movies were made. If I'm right, it took 4 years to make that movie!
Maybe a little old. But happy to have had the opportunity to be part of the first ones to see that movie. Right?
My husband is a huge Star Wars fan....I will certainly not forget (I was not even born yet though).
He has T shirts etc and watches an animated version that is the new thing. He even plays the online Star Wars game...you get to fly all the ships which is difficult. He has read the books and knows about the "history" of the different worlds and races.
1977 when the movie came out it was something the world had never seen before! Everybody was talking about that movie. 25 years later, when the movie was brought back to the theatres I told my children what great movie it was and that we all had to go and watch it. So we went to watch it. After the presentation I asked my children how they found it. Polite as they are, they told me with not to much enthusiasm that it was a good movie. But I could feel, that they were a bit disappointed. And actually I too. The reason was that in that 25 years between the first and the anniversary release we had gotten used to that kind of movies. It simply wasn't such special anymore. Still, I love the original first 3 Star Wars movies more than what came after.
I saw them all on video in the 80s as a kid. I just was not around to see them in the 70's in the theater.
That is neat you remember the originals though. My Dad liked them too.
I hate to admit it, but no!
I just could not get into the whole space age thing.
I actually did not watch TV for years.
I have a lot of catching up to do.
Thank goodness for Netflix.
Who knows, maybe I might like it now!
Cheers,
Susan
Thanks Jimmy for reminding me. Sure how could I forget Yoda the Jedi Master. Looks like you're a Star Wars fan too!
