How to Expand Your Images to Full Screen (Lightbox Effect) Using Galleries

It's time for your daily dose of Wordpress Wisdom! In today's quick tutorial I'll be showing you how to expand your images when clicked using the gallery block in the block editor. If you have a photography site or any kind of site where you want to show great detail in your images, then using this "Lightbox" effect where the image expands and takes up almost the full screen can be very beneficial.

While Lightbox type plugins will usually add a dimming type effect to the rest of the screen, the expanding effect is what we're after here, and it's as simple as selecting a setting in the gallery block. I'll show you how!

Can you have this set to doing it all the time automatically, instead of adjusting every time? Because I would like to do that for every one of my images and not just the galleries, and I have a lot of them.
The other day my sister in law watched my website and was like: "hey Lizzy, I want to click on your images and see them larger!" hahaha
thanks
Lizzy

I don't think there's an automatic way to do it, potentially with some css coding maybe, but all you have to do is click the 'expand on click' setting for each photo and you're good to go. The regular image block doesn't have the 'expand on click' setting that the gallery block does, but I don't think there's anything that stops you from using a single image in a gallery block. πŸ‘πŸΌ
