Terminated with no cause :O

Well, it looks like WA has temporarily become my full time work. Unplanned, but maybe a blessing in disguise?

I showed up to my 8am shift yesterday morning, approximately 40 minutes early (not unusual for me). I got settled at my desk, and started in on all the emails that we had received overnight. There were about 83 emails when I got there, and I had them all cleared by the time my shift even started. It's not rare that I will start working early, but clearing those emails was still a record for me. My co-worker showed up at about quarter to 8 and when our shifts started, we dove right into work.

At about 8:45 I got a message from my manager saying "Can you go in Makebusy and come to my office please". I replied "Sure", set my phone to not receive any phone calls, and started to walk over to his office. As the office has glass walls, I could see that the lady who runs HR (and is the sole employee of HR) was also in the office. I knew immediately what that meant.

They then proceeded to tell me they were letting me go. I asked if we could discuss anything, or if they would answer any questions about it. He stated:

"No, everything you need to know is in the [termination] letter."

The lady from HR then walked me to my desk, took my fob, and escorted me out of the building. I was well out of probation, having worked there for quite some time. I opened the letter when I got to my car, and of course it was a whole lot of nothing. No reason for the termination at all. I contacted a lawyer to review my letter and release form, and they said that I might be able to get more severance. However, I am not signing the release form and waiving my rights, and I don't really need the extra money anyways.

The only reason for termination I can think of is some petty drama that this other girl in the CS department has made up. The funny thing is, this girl is "close family friends" with the lady from HR...who also got her hired?!?! Nepotism at its finest.

Thinking of filing a complaint with the labour board with information I have on this company, even though TECHNICALLY firing me without cause is not illegal.

Have to get a new job now with no notice...but in the meantime I get to work on my websites and training. Maybe this is really a blessing?!

Just thought I would give y'all a glimpse into my hectic life :,) Thanks to those who actually read through this long post, I just needed to vent a bit :) Any kind words are very welcome at this moment!

Oh no I'm so sorry. I was working at Barnes and Noble before I quit a few weeks ago right when they were laying off all of the full time workers. I know what that's like... but at least you can work more on WA. It is better for you in the long run anyways

Yes I agree! Thank you :)

Best of luck to you as you transition into new work.

Thank you!

yep a blessing, you don't want to be giving your valuable time and energy to people like that, they could do the same thing years down the road

you have the choice now to pursue something that benefits you on your own terms, people do succeed at this and you can be one of them

Thank you! I am really excited!!

This is the time to call on your friends Emily and research opportunities. You probably signed an 'at will" statement upon original hire that gives them the excuse to let go on a whim. Some low lifers take advantage of that.
You have 2 things in your favor.
1. Wealthy Affiliate
2. The desire and ability to use it

Best wishes to you. Let me know how it turns out!

I know. It is partly my fault, I left my employee contract in the building when they walked me out so I really don't have access to what I signed. When I contacted the lawyer they said that it IS legal to fire without cause, and I also read that on our government website so I am not sure if it depends on the employer or if it is a new law.

Either way, I am not too upset. I didn't want to stay there for much longer and this way I get a little bit of severance :) I will keep my blog updated with new developments! Thank you for your support!

Hi Emily,

I'm sorry and it's unfortunate. Most people prefer to have a second job before leaving the other but we can't always predict these things. The end of a job can be uninspiring but it's always the promise of a new beginning.

Could be a blessing, really could be anything you make it because one person can fold under similar circumstances while the other can become extremely successful from it. It's all based on your specific paradigm and how well you handle situations.

This does make more time for WA but if I were in your shoes I'd personally divide the time between job applications(maybe 3 or 4/day) then WA learning for the remainder(1-5hrs/day maybe)

Hope this helps,

-Jaron

Thank you! I plan on staying positive. My job was very time consuming, so I am now blessed with the time to sit and focus on things like WA. Of course, I will need to find another position ASAP... I don't plan on staying unemployed. I have already applied to 10+ places and plan on doing that every day. I have a backup job should I become desperate :) Your help is very appreciated!

no prob! I try to stay positive, it's my niche :)

If you apply to 10+ places a day you might end up with a job this Friday :D good drive, keep us updated and let us know if you ever need any help.

I hope so! Thanks again :)

You have just turned another pathway in your life.
Stay your new Journey - To your new direction of Success.
