Happy Thanksgiving to all my Wealthy Affiliate US members. I hope you enjoy a very special day with family and friends. If you traveled far, more power to you.

My First Thanksgiving

When I started working in the US for the first time, I was alone. Celebrating Thanksgiving was strange to me. In England there is no Thanksgiving.

For my very first Thanksgiving I had a dilemma. A family who I befriended invited me to Thanksgiving Dinner in the evening, Meanwhile, one of the secretary's at work, invited me to their Thanksgiving meal which they had early afternoon.

I felt honored at having two invitations, I accepted them both! Talk about being stuffed by the end of the day! Perhaps that day was when I ate the most in my life!

Thanksgiving Meals

Since then, my wife played Thanksgiving host now and then. It is fun having guests over for Thanksgiving.

When we spend Thanksgiving by ourselves, like this year, we do not go overboard with the dishes we serve ourselves. Instead of turkey, we have ham and beef of some sort. Like ribs this year, or tri-tip on past years.

It is the sides that really make the meal. Our favorites are baked beans, cranberry salad, green bean casserole and off course stuffing! For desert, it is usually cheesecake and pie. Sounds like a lot, but we take small portions. We have loads of left overs.

Is Thanksgiving Really A Holiday?

When I had a job, I always looked forward to the long weekend holiday. The company gave us Friday off with pay which was nice. It was great having that break.

Now that I am retired, there is no holiday. I am my own boss now. Every day is a work day. Including weekends. What makes this different is I choose when I work and for how long! That is a major benefit of not working for someone else. I am sure that many WA members can relate to this.

What Is Your Thanksgiving Like

Please share any interesting stories you may have about Thanksgivings past or present. Are you one of those people who fly or drive to meet family? Or have family fly or drive to your place?

Do you have a big family with a large Thanksgiving spread? Who does the cooking and cleanup?

However you spend it, I give thanks for the many blessings we have and continue to receive. One of these is being a member of this great community.

Cheers!

Edwin

P.S. For those who sent me get well messages after my accident, many thanks. I am recovering slowly. At least I am moving in the positive direction.

My wife and I have a small meal with only 2 of our sons coming for the meal. My wife likes me to smoke a small turkey which will be the focus of our meal. We take the leftovers and freeze them for a meal later on. I am glad you are recovering well.
Jerry

My Thanksgiving was rather quiet. I went to a local church for Thanksgiving dinner, and was sent home with a plate of leftovers. Good food, good folks. It was a great day.

Now I'm home and happy and catching up on WA posts. Ah, yes, a day off? I don't think so...not the whole day, anyway.

Hi Fran,

You have the right spirit. No peace for the wicked as the saying goes. I interpret this as no break for the serious-minded!

Glad you had a pleasant Thanksgiving. All the best to you.

Edwin

When I was growing up, we had a "grownups" table and the kids's table too. I never understood why either. I guess we just had too much energy for the "grownup" table. Sometimes family or friends would come over, and we'd start about 1:00 PM, which was when the turkey was done and cool enough not to burn our mouths, lol.

Of course as I grew older, I got to go to the "grownup" table. Still felt weird. I had to sit on the outside of the table, that is the end because I was a "southpaw", that is left-handed.

Nowadays, we eat just the two of us, whatever we have in the house, or family brings left-overs to us. We don't mind at all. Our niece comes by and gives us the food in styrofone (sp?) plates and pie. We don't mind at all. It sure helps. :) And usually watch a movie. It's a pretty light day as far as working, but since both I am mentally hyperactive, I usually do something with my site and/or training for WA or make notes.

We never had kids, since we're on a fixed income, we didn't want to burden the system with kids we couldn't afford, so my hubby got a vasectomy before we got married. I had my doubts, but I think that's the best decision I ever made. So, it's pretty quiet for us most Thanksgivings. j

Happy Black Friday, coming up fast!

I had the same experience, Katherine. The only noticeable difference that I noticed as a kid sitting at the kids table was that there was alcohol at the adult's table. I had uncles who just had to have their beer with their Turkey drumsticks. And the other adults would drink wine or champagne.

And there was always a lot of laughter among the adults, as if they were having a good time. I'm guessing that maybe they were either gossiping or telling jokes that I probably shouldn't hear.

Hi Katherine,

Thanks so much for sharing. I totally understand the decision you and your husband made. Glad you have nieces and perhaps nephews to keep your lives full.

I wish you all the very best.

Cheers!

Edwin

Thanks, Edwin. Mostly nieces. One of Rick's brothers is deceased, not sure how either an aneurysm or a stroke, and the other is gay. Still we have a grand-nephew who's autistic. Thanks😀

Isaiah, about the gossiping and telling jokes kids probably shouldn't hear, more than likely, lol, or risking the chance of you spreading the gossip at school. Hard to say! :)

Hi Edwin,

My earliest Thanksgiving memory was as a child, we would either spend Thanksgiving at home where my mother and aunts did all the cooking for everyone. Since there were so many relatives and friends, I remember that there was always a "Big table" where the adults sit and then there's the "Kid's table" where the children sit. I never knew why we couldn't just sit together - adults and children.

Even after the dinner was over, the adults would stay there, long into the night, laughing, drinking, laying around watching football, when I just wanted to watch some of the holiday cartoons. I would always pull my mother aside and ask, "Are they EVER going home?"

Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃
Isaiah 😊

Hi Isaiah,

Typical adults, right? It is different today since kids can watch cartoons on their own devices, or on the home's second TV.

We are not into football so that doesn't factor in how we spend our time. We watch other stuff on TV.

Happy Thanksgiving for you and your family Edwin! 🦃

It's great to hear you are recovering my friend...

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your support. All the best to you.

Edwin

You're most welcome my friend and all the very best for you too!

Hi Edwin…Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! I enjoy the sides too and think they are what really makes the meal. Enjoy the day! 🦃

Hi Susan,

Glad we agree on the sides ha! The ham is in the oven. We decided to not cook the beef ribs and save that for another meal. With all the sides we have, we will definitely have enough to eat.

Thanks for commenting. Hope you're having a great Thanksgiving.

Cheers.

Edwin

Ham should be delicious, particularly with all those tasty sides! Can't wait until dinnertime. Enjoy your day.

Happy Thanksgiving, Edwin! I appreciate you sharing your story.

Myra

You're most welcome Myra. Thanks for your comment.

Cheers.

Hi, Edwin

Your first Thanksgiving was like a typical Italian celebration. We eat two giant meals today. It never ends!

I'll barely be done eating to make Eric's webinar tonight, and maybe I'll have to watch the replay! 😎

Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

Frank

Hi Frank,

With an Italian heritage do you still have a traditional turkey meal or is it all Italian?

If our family could get together, it would be a hybrid meal. Some Indian dishes and the rest American. Alas, they are located all over the world and Thanksgiving is not on their agenda.

By the way, Kyle reviewed my Black Friday campaign and thought I was on the right track. He gave me a few additional keywords to add. Kyle is willing to work with me in 2023 on PPC campaigns. Meanwhile, I am reviewing Vitaliy's Bing Ad class series to get up to speed for some serious PPC action. The strategy is different compared to SEO. Kyle said the posts can be much shorter and written differently. The main ingredient is spending cold hard cash. I can. afford a reasonable ad budget and feel that my timing is right now that I have a mature website. I feel very fortunate to receive Kyle's attention.

Thanks for commenting.

Edwin

Hi Edwin

Yes, PPC is not about traditional SEO because you are not looking to rank for organic traffic.

It’s all about putting you ads in front of just the right audience and then giving them the info they need to convert.

I answered your questions about Italian-American Thanksgiving is another response to your post.

Hope you had a great day!

Jeff🦃

Hi Jeff,

Good to know. Is Monica joining you for Thanksgiving?

Cheers.

Edwin

No, she is celebrating with her family. Because of the oldest daughter, I am not allowed to attend, but I had a blast at my Army buddy Ron's house and there were a lot of other friends there too!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Glad you had company to spend Thanksgiving with. Thanks for letting me know.

Edwin

Thanks, Edwin!

I was too! Monica did call and talk for about two hours with me last night!

I hope your Thanksgiving was Grand!

Jeff🦃
