A Dream Killer
Do you know what is the number one dream killer? The Fear Of Failure! Yes it is. In order to be successful in life, and in any venture worth pursuing, it is imperative to try out new things. Take measured risks. You've heard the saying, the higher the risk, the higher the reward.
However, in going all out to succeed, there is a high chance of failure. And it is this fear of failure that causes us to procrastinate. To put things off. To play it safe. As the saying goes, Better Be Safe Than Sorry.
Risk Management
The correct way to take risks is to have some element of risk management in place. For example, if you take a chance on something, before doing anything, ask these three questions first.- What would be the worst thing that can happen if I take this action?
- What could be the best thing that could happen if I take this action?
- What would be the worst thing that could happen if I didn't take this action?
Not taking action is the loss of opportunity. If you took action and failed, what would be the consequences? Would it be worse than not taking the action in the first place?
Both the above must be compared with taking action and succeeding. If the potential gains far outweigh the status quo or the result of failure, then the decision should be obvious. Take the risk.
If the potential gains result in a minimum outcome, then it is not worth taking the risk. There are times when there is no time to do this assessment and a decision has to be made promptly.
This is where one's leadership acumen is tested. A visionary leader will be able to do this analysis mentally and arrive at a decisive conclusion.
"Do Not Make Any Mistakes"
How many times did you hear this immortal command? Especially as children? I have lost count. In school, we are taught that making mistakes is bad and should be avoided at all costs. The whole purpose of tests is to get as many questions right as possible.
Of course, there are many questions that have absolute answers that are either right or wrong. Like multiplication tables. In those cases we were taught to commit them to memory so that we would always get them right. And there was nothing wrong with that.
Enlightened courses of study have questions written where there is no right or wrong answer. The objective is for the student to pick whatever answer they think is correct and provide reasons why they think that way.
Brain Storming
Do you know why this method can be very successful in solving problems? Or in devising a plan?
When a group of individuals involved with a project are asked to participate in a Brain Storming session, there is only one rule. There are no right or wrong answers or comments. No response is deemed stupid. In that way members are free to use their imagination to come up with outrageous solutions to problems.
This often leads to two seemingly ridiculous ideas submitted by different individuals when combined could end up being an amazing solution. It is by thinking out of the box when creative solutions are discovered.
And that is why Brainstorming works!
Online Marketing
I have read reports from so many individuals here who are wildly successful who stated that they made tons of mistakes in their first few years before they discovered Wealthy Affiliate. Even our founders Kyle and Carson have gone through a lot of trial and error situations before they invented this amazing teaching and business platform.
If the best of the best can make mistakes and still succeed, anyone of us can do the same. The secret is to keep trying new stuff to find what works and never give up.
Imagine what the outcome would have been if Kyle and Carson got so frustrated that they decided that Affiliate Marketing would never work and they decided to look for a 9-5 job instead? All of us would have been the big losers.
Now look at Wealthy Affiliate and see what a dynamic online Affiliate Marketing University this has become!
The Failure Barrier
As humans it has been ingrained into us since childhood that we must avoid failure at any cost. When we fail, we feel defeated and find it very difficult to overcome that failure barrier. Our minds get programmed that no matter what we try out we will fail. So why even bother?A paradigm shift is necessary to overcome failure. In order to succeed we must soar over that barrier or if needs be, punch tight through it to reach success on the other side.
When we get struck we must try different things until we find an opening to success.
Tools To Overcome Failure
At Wealthy Affiliate, we are so fortunate to have access to a plethora of tools to help us punch through failure and succeed. In years gone by, it was harder trying to do this all by ourselves. Over here we have access to so many talented members that all we need to do us to ask a question and one or more talented members will be eager to provide an answer.
The pay it forward mentality is so powerful in Wealthy Affiliate you never have to build your business in isolation.
Fail Your Way To Success - Like Those Who Are Successful Now!
When you try something that doesn't work it is not time wasted. What we do in situations like that is we've eliminated one more step that doesn't work. Hence, there are fewer steps to take for success.

I would say we all learn by our mistakes Edwin. The more mistakes we make an early period the more successful we are likely to become later.
I always like to say that I never fail at anything I just find the wrong way of doing things.
Derek
You are so right Derek. Before we can find the right way to do something, we need to find what not to do through failure. It makes us stronger and better equipped to succeed.
Thanks for your comments.

"Fail Your Way To Success - Like Those Who Are Successful Now!"
Thank you for taking the time to write and share this post. Great work.
Regards from Canada.
Paul.
Hi Paul,
When I first emigrated to Canada I applied to so many places for work and failed. I responded to so many ads from the Toronto Globe and Mail with no success.
One Sunday I decided to save myself the trouble and not read the ads. My cousin who I was staying with persuaded me to give that one last try.
I cane across an ad that read like my resume. I called the company the next day, Monday, and had an interview set up for Tuesday. I ended up doing most of the interviewing. Then the conversation hit silence. I asked the interviewer what next. Nonchalantly he said, "You got the job. Didn't you know that?"
If I had given up I would not be in LA today as the job was based here.
In Toronto I went through many failed interviews before I succeeded. One of the agencies who was supposed to be helping me called to set me up with another interview. When I told him what had happened to me, he seemed so distraught that he had missed seeing that opportunity. It was this very guy who told me I was not qualified for the jobs because my degree I got in England was only a three year course. In Canada it was four years. Bt in England, all Bachelors degrees were three years!
Anyway, it was nice musing with you about a Canadian Tale of mine!
Cheers.
Edwin
You are not musing with me, Edwin. This is all good.
Where were you prior to coming to Canada?
Newspaper want ads, remind me of many years ago that if you did the ads, you were conscientious and a go-getter.
How is LA compared to Toronto and the places you have been before?
Is the platform here living up to your expectations?
I am pleased to make your acquaintance.

Hi Edwin,
Thank you for sharing a great post. The fear of failure, can stop you in your tracks.
If do not do anything because of your fear, failure is guaranteed. Lessons learned well and that really stick in my mind are the attempts I failed at. With new information, and a few adjustments it is time to take on that task again. Giving up is not an option.
Best wishes,
Michael
Indeed Michael. If we reach a road block, we need to rent a drone to get a different perspective to find a new path forward.
I like the perspective you stated.
Cheers.
Edwin
Great content, Edwin. Should be reviewed daily in our progress toward the success we all want.
Mark, you're making me blush. Except it cannot be seen lol!
Thanks for your kind words.
Edwin
Hi Edwin. I know I used to try so hard not to make any mistakes in school. But I have learned to try anyways. It is better to try and fail than not try at all. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day.
Ray
Hi Ray, it is amazing how we learned how not to do things in school lol.
Wouldn't kids in a class freak out if the teacher told them that the task today was to try something and fail doing it ha! I wouldn't be surprised if on such a day more of the kids actually succeeded because they were given failure as an option!
Thanks for your perspective.
Edwin
i hate fear...and failure ,it brings me down...but i love my Dream and will not let fear of failure stop my dream...thanks for the advice my friend.
Sammy, you broke the code. Make your dream so big that it will help you to overcome all your fears of failure.
Great perspective. Thanks!
Edwin
Hi Edwin,
How true this is. I wonder how many great ideas had been killed before it ever got started because of fear.
Thank you for encouragement and ideas to overcome.
God bless,
Jusoo
Hi Jusco,
As a Toastmaster, I have faced the fear of speaking in public and learning how to control that. I don't think most people can ever overcome fear totally. The trick is to learn how to control it and deal with it.
That's what I tried to illustrate in my Blog. Thanks for your thoughtful words.

you have to believe in yourself and you can anything
It's amazing how important belief is. Without that, failure is guaranteed.
Thanks for that perspective.
