Should You Quit? Maybe....

I know what you're thinking WA members aren't quitters and ain't about that quitting life! But you know what? Sometimes you do need to quit...temporarily. I'm not talking about months here. It can be as little as few minutes, hours or a few days. I would never suggest giving up on yourself or your dreams.

Time out!

But have you ever been knee deep in some marketing activity like writing an article or working on your site and things just aren't flowing? Guess what? That's your body and mind telling you I need a timeout like that badass kid you saw in the supermarket throwing a tantrum. Now I tend to be old school and I usually air on the side of beating that tantrum out. LOL But when it comes to this business forcing yourself through the pain may not always be productive in all situations.

Sometimes walking away for a bit may actually give you a clearer mind. Often times you'll come back to a task and see a totally different perspective or discover the answer you were looking for just because you gave yourself a little time to relax. Your mind and body are crazy like that.

In fact, here's a great quote that sums it all up:

Relax Your Mind

Make sense to you? Let me know what you think in the comments below. Do you agree or do you think this is quitter advice? Have you walked away and come back refreshed? Chime in either way.

Eddy with a Y.

Aye, Mate! I know what'cha talkin' about! Good Article, I gotta go!

Eric :)

Thanks Eric! Glad you liked it!

So in other words, it's good to take breaks to refresh ourselves ^__^

Pretty much..

Great post Eddy! I like the idea of quit...temporarily which I always do when I'm overwhelm. The best thing I do is play with my favorite game at FB (Candy Crush)... if I don't have the time to go at the gym or take a walk.

One of stress reliever is an hour and half "YOGA". I never quit...Nenita

Thanks Lanesamarie! I think those are all ways of just relaxing and giving your mind a chance to reboot! Thanks for chiming in and sharing!

Indeed, I'm also guilty of pushing myself too much, I get days where as much as I'm staring at and thinking about the problem I just can't seem to figure it out. In this instance I normally just close my laptop for a couple of hours and switch off. Works a treat :0 Thanks for the post Eddy!

I hear ya Pete! I think it's just a type A personality thing. But at least you recognize you need to walk away for a bit! Thanks for chiming in and sharing!

Awesome post Eddy! Taking a few minutes, or an hour here and there is absolutely something that I do frequently. I'm not a quitter and never have been, but I do step back, take a breath, and look at things from a different perspective all the time.

Sometimes all it takes is a little break to figure something out, or to get over a speed bump that got thrown into the mix.

To all the WA members that are tackling something that may seem "impossible".. Take a few minutes, regroup, and approach it from a different angle. I know this will work for you :)

Carson

Thanks Carson! I totally agree. It's amazing how clear things become when you do walk away. You definitely are able to see angles that were previously blocked in your mind.

'm guilty of pushing through at times, there is just so much to get done.

Lately though, I find that stepping back and taking a bit of time to shut off the brain and do something mindless is useful. Fortunately, I have dogs that are always ready for a little training session or some play time. It is productive even though it feels mindless to me.

Thanks for sharing your shameless plug. Looking forward to spending time on your site.

LOL, Thank you for enjoying the plug. But seriously I hear you. It's hard for me to shut down at times. My wife will attest to this. But I can always tell when I'm not being as effective because my articles become hard to write, I feel tired, and I get easily annoyed. Once I start feeling that I know I've been spending way too much time on my sites and I need break. Lately I've been forcing myself to avoid getting on the computer on weekends and that has been great because I spend more time with my family.

Balance is always needed! Otherwise why are we doing all this stuff?

Great post Eddy

Thanks Liz! Glad you liked it and chimed in!

Eddy - first, congratulations on the birth of your son! And second, your time out post is absolutely great advice. In fact, I'm taking a time out right now in Lake Placid, NY at the Olympic Training Center to watch the greatest "Why" for being here I can imagine, my 20-year old, brother and sister twins, Alex and Danielle compete at the Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships. Rest gives you perspective sometimes on why you do anything with great intensity.

Also, I think your new blog is great!

Best regards,

Lee Gamelin

Hey Lee, Thanks so much! My little man has been a great blessing. I never thought I could love anyone as much as I do my 5th year old daughter. But Little Eddy has shown me your heart can be a vast place and has enough room for more love than you know.

I'm happy you enjoyed the post. You're a few hours from me here in NY. Lake Placid sounds like a perfect place to be to refresh your mind and get recharged. Here's wishing your brother and the twins success on the championships. But if they have the type of mindset you have, then success is pretty much guaranteed my friend!

Thanks for the kind words about my new blog. Hopefully I see you there as well.

Thanks Eddy! We used to live in NY as well. On Long Island in Merrick. Now we live in Delaware. Just for clarification, it's not my brother's twins. Alex and Danielle are our children. You can view for yourself at http://www.IceTwins.com.

Lee

Well it's great to meet a fellow New Yorker Lee! Wow I'm impressed with your kids website and their achievements in their sport. Great domain name! Best of luck to them but again, I doubt they need it! =)

Thanks so much, Eddy! I can't take credit for the website creatives, that's all my wife's doing.

In your first reply, you mentioned the love for your son (and daughter). Fortunately, we belong to a group of parents, whose love for their children is of great inspiration and drive. What a wonderful experience!

Lee

I've always appreciated the way you think and I love the new site. Thanks, Eddy.

Thanks Rebbak! That means a lot! I hope to see you on the new website and feel free to subscribe if you want to hear of my unique way of thinking. Let me know what you think of my latest article I posted there. Thanks.

It was really funny and down to earth. I loved it, sounded a lot like my experience.

Great advice, timeouts are soooo important to creativity. I love to take my dogs for a walk every day this gives me time with nature and to let the creative bit of my brain time to let more juice flow. Good luck with the new venture.

Thanks for chiming in Tom! I walk my "dog" (he looks more like a cat, he's an italian greyhound. lol) as a source of stress relief as well. I have a pretty big backyard so it's always beautiful to hear and see the little creatures. So I totally agree with you. Thanks for the well wishes. Hope to see you at my new site.
