Site Comment Platform: Don't Make A Spam Impression, Leave Only Unique Comments
In last few day, I received a lot of comments that are not possible to publish in their normal form; few are even worse --- You can't modify those from any corner!
I really become tired of disapproving those spam kinds of comments. I'm not really sure how others' experiences, but I get too many unrelated ones via the site comment platform.
Which comments are considered as SPAM?
- A comment that is not exactly related to the content.
- A comment that left only based of the first and last line of the post.
- A comment that doesn't have the keyword or at least, words those are related to the keyword.
- A commentthat is not engaging or interactive.
- A comment that's having only "Great content.... I like it very much..." type of words, but no discussion about the original content.
- A comment that doesn't have any grammatical meaning.
- A comment where any/ proper punctuations are absent.
In last few days I received significant number of comments, those are exactly similar to the above list. Very unfortunately I couldn't accept those.
Recently I found a related blogpost by DBlanchard; spam comments irritated him also.
I've had enough! I am no longer the "good guy" in Site Comment!
I'm not sure how is others' experience.
Who are those commenters?
I know, old members never do such types of activities. An experienced member in Wealthy Affiliate always tries to post the best quality comments, because they understand the value of it.
Even new people who perfectly follow Kyle's training, they also don't leave poor comments, because they come in a step-by-step process and start realizing the value of comments. Maybe those newbies can't post a great comment like an experienced member, but still they try their best. It's fine so far.
But there are a few newbies who are in a hurry to earn credits from site comment platforms. Neither they follow Kyle's training properly, nor they afford a little time to read articles before leaving a comment.
As per my personal experience I find the following category of people are misusing the site comment platform:
- Newbies who are not following Kyle’s training properly.
- Beginners who unlocked the site comment section before receiving the related training from Kyle.
- People who are in a hurry to earn credits from site comments.
- People who don't afford a minimum time to read an article before leaving a comment.
Suggestion to New commenters
First attend Kyle's training about site comment. Please listen carefully what he suggests.
SiteComments - The Benefits & Full Walkthrough
Please read the instruction that is written on the site comment platform.
"When providing comments, please be thorough and unique. Comments that are engaging will allow the owner (and others) to interact. The better comments you offer, the better comments you will receive!"
Then you should proceed accordingly. Leave only an unique and engaging comment if you can.
Thank you.

What's worse than leaving a bad comment, is going to Google and copying and pasting entire paragraphs which I luckily caught over half a dozen times
It's even worse if someone copy and paste, but still you can edit those if you can understand the point, and if the comments are related to your content.
But, when it's totally unrelated or meaningless, you don't have to do anything, other than disapprove the comment.
Anyway, both are equally unwanted.
That's why I don't use the site comment platform for comments lol coz I am not prepared to surrender credits in exchange for bad comments. I use the give and take website comments thread instead, which is free to utilise. If I then receive a less desirable comment, at least I have not surrendered credits for it and there may be more scope to negotiate there to please re-do a comment etc. if I feel its necessary.
It's fine to use the "Give and Take Website Comment" page to receive some additional comments, but in the Site Comment section, you'll receive comments those are not linked to any website.
Not only visitors but Google bots also count these unlinked comments in terms of ranking a webpage. A comment which is connected to a website, that's a backlink, and Google doesn't like all your comments to be backlinked.
You also need some comments which are posted by common visitors who are not website owner but interested in your topic. That means some PURE comments which are not linked to any website.
The site comment platform can provide you this type of comment, and this is worthy to use.
In addition, "Give and Take Website Comment" section mostly used by newbies, because it is introduced by Kyles in the early stage of the Entrepreneurship course. So, you may not receive a unique of always (as per my personal experience), and can't expect a unique comment there.
You may expect a better comment on the following page which is introduced in Affiliate Bootcamp, because relatively experienced people are attending this page (though I receive some spam comments here also). Share Your "Content With Intent" Here I'd say Sitecomment is a worthy place for receiving comments than any other commenting page, and people shouldn't misuse this platform.
I applied to the comment thread for my assignment and got ' It was great. Thanks' as my comment. Not helpful and I had left a great comment on their website. I think I will stick with Site Comments.
Lily
Interesting. I will investigate a bit further on this. Are you saying that as soon as commenters are allowed to submit their website url when commenting (as in have their website url linked within their profile name) when commenting, that their comment does not contribute towards your site content and will therefore not contribute towards your article rank within the search engines? I have not used the site comments platform in ages, so are you saying that when using site comments platform that comments left in this fashion does not include their website linked within their profile and that those comments will therefore count towards article rank within the search engines?
It's partly right. Share Your "Content With Intent" Here Need website comments? the give and take comment thread These are Wealthy Affiliate's credit less commenting platforms. Sometimes you'll get unique comments there, sometimes not. And you can return the favor in equal value.
In these platforms, the commenters backlink their websites; I'm not saying this is bad. There is a little chance that visitors can visit the commenter's website through that backlink. If your website is backlinked to other websites, you also have an equal chance to get a few clicks through that backlink.
In site comment platform backlinks are not allowed. That means the commenters can't link their website to the comment. The only thing that is recorded there, that is the commenter's e-mail ID that is linked to Gravatar.
So, Googlebot can understand, these comments are not from a website owner, but these are comments from real visitors who are interested in the topic.
Google put little more value to these types of comments.
Yes, in site comment, it is expected to get a better comment. But some people started to leave spam comments, and nowadays I started receiving spam very frequently. That's why I decided to post this awareness blog, to let them know this is not the right way. Need website comments? the give and take comment thread This thread is operated by newbies (mostly), so you can't expect a great comment from here. Share Your "Content With Intent" Here Kyle introduced this thread in Affiliate Bootcamp training. So, it is expected the presence of relatively experienced people here. Sometimes you'll get unique comments there, sometimes not. However, you can return the favor in equal value.
I don't really agree with the fact that the give and take website comments thread is mostly used by newbies. I manage to get very good comments from there from very experienced members and I have the freedom to choose to comment on articles from those that are experienced, from whom I am likely to get good quality comments. I do so by selectively commenting on their articles first and then ask for the favour to be returned.
This is unlike the site comments platform where you have no control over whom will comment on your articles. In fact, as far as I am aware ( I speak under correction as not gone through the training in ages) Kyle pushes the site comments platform in the training, not the free website comments give and take thread. I get a lot of people on WA that is not even aware of the website comments give and take thread, not realising they can get comments for free and then forever complaining about the low quality comments they receive on the site comments platform in exchange for their valuable credits.
I think the experience will vary depending on how we go about utilising these particular platforms. You can get low quality and high quality comments from whatever comments exchange platform really. It is about finding ways to ensure more high caliber comments by e.g. identifying site comments requested by more experienced members and commenting on their articles as a first instance which should ensure higher caliber comments on yours.
Ye. You are right. Choosing the right member for receiving comments is important. And, definitely, you have that freedom in the "Give and take comment" section.
I'm not aware of the present situation of this thread because I didn't use it for a long time. The last time I used, I received some poor quality comments, or even NO comment. That's why I stopped.
At this moment I can't how I find out this thread (from Kyle's training or elsewhere), but I can remember I uncover "Give and Take comment" thread in my early days.
Anyway, it's fine to get some comments from this thread, even I may try another time, but how will you get backlink-free comments there?
For this option, you have to visit the Site comments platform. To the best of my knowledge, there is no other option here in WA.
This has now sparked me to really do proper research on this. The way we always used to build backlinks is to comment on other people's websites and having our website url linked in our profile. However, reading some articles on this now the claim is that by default comments on WordPress articles are nofollow. I will be looking more closely into all of this now.
Do you have an article that sheds more light on the value of "unlinked" comments? I am trying to investigate if comments on your articles regardless simply contributes to the content of your site or not or whether different rank values are attributed when it comes to linked and unlinked comments received. As you mentioned, how do people in general leave unlinked comments then if you are not a member of WA that has access to the site comments platform? In real life how does this happen then or is there a function within Wordpress I can disable the possibility of people being able to leave their website url? Maybe I can which will then solve the unlinked vs linked comments.
Let me know if you are aware of where you can disable the ability of someone having to leave their website url when commenting and if you have any articles to prove the value of unlinked comments vs linked comments. Thus far what I found is the value of unlinked comments in a different sense where someone mentions your website url within their article etc. (which is also referred to as unlinked comments). But this is of course different to the discussion we had in regards to linked and unlinked comments received. Thanks!
Any comments that I have had with a website attached I've deleted the website. I actually had the same person drop their website link into several of my comments. I deleted all of it and they went away. You can check any links in your comment section.
Lily
I think we are talking about different things here. I am not talking about someone dropping any of their links within their comments. I will obviously delete that also. I am talking about the normal way we leave comments on websites where you put in your website url when you are commenting. That website url then links within your profile when you comment. So not talking about someone blatantly leaving their website url inside their actual comment as this is blatant spam. The linked and unlinked comments the author here is referring to as far as I understand is comments left when no website url linked within their profile (which he refers to as unlinked comments) vs comments left where the website url is linked within their profile when commenting (the normal way when we commenting on people's websites in general and you need to provide your website url when commenting), which he refers to as linked comments.
Well, you did some massive research on this!
Great job anyway.
Comment Nofollow = No backlink
This is absolutely right from the SEO perspective. I haven't think of this earlier.
But if you leave a backlinked comment on a high domain-score blog where comment do-follow is enabled, this is SEO friendly for your website, and vice versa.
Besides, there is a little chance to get some visitors from your comments to others' blogs. I personally received some clicks from my backlinked comment in the past.
I don't disable the website URL option in blog comment, because when I place a comment request in WA, other members prefer to backlink their website and so do I.
If disable this option, WA members can't backlink; To leave a comment providing website URL is not mandatory, so it's totally up to the commenters' decision.
Ethically it is not right to remove WA members' website URL in their comments to your Blog (as Aussiemuso mentioned). In WA commenting platforms we backlink each others' websites by leaving comments, and this is absolutely fine to work together.
Outsiders' URLs should be removed.
Come to the point:
Firstly, You have done great research on this. it's highly appreciated.
So, you are saying it doesn't matter whether a comment is back-linked or not, am I right?
Then what's the role site comment platform, and why member's are not allowed to include website URL while commenting from the site comment platform?
What do you think the reason maybe?
Yes I think that is correct that it does not seem to matter whether the comment is back-linked or not, it will regardless contribute to the content of your article and one does not seem to carry less weight than the other. That is however what I think lol. And I have no idea about why the site comment platform choose to exclude the website url. Maybe it is just to do with how the system works or not deemed necessary? Can perhaps pose this question to Kyle?
And yes I would not want to disable the possibility of website url's being linked within the commenters profile either. That was just me trying to brainstorm and see should unlinked comments happen to carry more weight, whether it is at all a possibility.
Yes I've received some horror comments. Cut and Paste, obviously they are only after credit not giving value. Some are just garbage. I reject those and report the people to Kyle. I've noticed they haven't been back. Tough love.
Site comments should be respected as a help not an annoying distraction. Perhaps it should be demonized, perhaps that is the solution. Only credits.
Lily
You are absolutely right, the site comment platform is created for the members' help, but some people forget to show some respect.

I agree with you but just remember that in real life organic comments are written by a broad spectrum of people. Some can spell, some can't. Some will stay on topic, some won't. Although some comments can seem annoyingly dumb, you don't want perfection either, or they won't seem real. Jim
That is different.
Anyone will be more than happy to receive organic comments, whatever it is... but you know, getting organic comment is not that easy.
You are actually requesting for comment in site comment to get the real-life organic comments.
To be more clear, every unique comments on your posts are counted by Googlebot. When your page contains several numbers of keyword-rich unique comments, Google starts to show some extra respect, and thus the particular page ranking well in Google/ other search engines.
By luck, if the page appears on the first page of Google, you'll start getting the maximum numbers of organic traffic.
When the visitors will see several comments on the page with accurate replies, a part of them also start to post their query/ comments.
This is how Site comment helps to get real-life organic comments as well as organic visitors.
And yes, when the visitors find a number of well-written comments on your page, a certain percentage of the visitors also try to post well-written queries.
But whatever the comments they leave, all are welcome. Because your ultimate goal is to draw organic traffic and get some queries from organic visitors.
And finally, if you receive a spam or unrelated comment even from an organic visitor, you shouldn't publish the same in live form. This will harm your website ranking. Kyle already mentioned this in his training. (Some organic visitors often leave spam comment to get backlinks).
Certainly, you wouldn't allow spam or disparaging comments, that's obvious. Jim
