Don't Change Your Website Domain/Address In The Settings!!
Hey all,
Over the last couple of days I have seen three different people have trouble logging into their site, all for the same reason.
This was because they had changed the domain name in the site settings.
In other words, they created a site such as "Mydomain.siterubix.com" then later decided they wanted to change that address, so they went into the settings in the WordPress dashboard and changed it to something else.
DON'T DO THIS!!!
This will make it impossible to sign in to your site. You also won't be able to navigate to it online, it will be lost in the void. You can't simply change it in the settings and hope it works, it is a more complicated job than that.
If you want to change your address, simply delete that site and start a new one. If you have lots of content on there already, you can do the following:
1. Go to "Tools" on your dashboard and click "Export" and choose all content and save the file somewhere.
2. Create your new site (think carefully about this address please!)
3. Go to "Tools" on the new site's dashboard and click "Import" and import the file you saved from the old site.
4. Check everything has transferred across, and delete the original site to avoid duplicate content.
Now, if you HAVE already messed things up by changing your domain, you have two options:
1. Start again.
2. Ask Kyle or Carson in chat if they are able to change your website address in the registry. I'm not 100% certain this is possible or that they are willing to do it, so if you had not created much content on the site that you messed up, just start afresh.
Edit: If you have made this mistake on a site that you host elsewhere or you have FTP access to (a premium site here at WA) you can view this training made by Welshy to try to fix the problem. If the mistake is on a siterubix site then disregard this. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/how-to-fix-wordpress-address-url-if-changed
If you are going to make ANY changes to your site, installing a new plugin, even adding a new photo...make sure you back it up first (export it using the same method above and save it somewhere, preferably in multiple locations, and call it "site backup" or something similar)
Also, always ask in chat if you have any doubts.
Stay safe out there!

Thank you this is very good especially for beginners. I was wondering though, do you know if it is bad to change a site title after it has been indexed? I have an EMD that got Google Slapped (and believe me it has a lot of good content) so, I was thinking if I changed the title of my site then it might help. Thanks again for this post.
I'm not sure about that, how old is the site? how many pages? It might just be doing the google dance
I am so glad that I read this before I did Anything! You probably saved me hours of hard work & maybe some tears, too. Thank you, thank you!
Great info! I haven't had this problem to date and will now avoid the problem. One should take serious thought of the name before doing any work at all on the site in my opinion. Base it on the keywords and fill it with relevant content. Thanks.
David
yeah you are right, but even if you want to change it is simple to do as long as you do it right
Dom is right, moving a site to a new domain is what this is for, also use it for a minor backup. Major backups need to backup the database too. Moving the whole site can be a bit tricky depending on your theme.
Welshy has done a tutorial as have Seilke and I.
yeah, I don't know why suddenly people are messing things up but hope I can stop it continuing
With the new system that Kyle and Carson have implemented. I feel a this small wave just starting to become something more than the original members ever imagined could happen.

I want to promote WA. Are there any good articles about WA which could give me inspiration?
There is an entire site here for inspiration. Read through Kyles Blog posts, you will find many things that are inspirational.
yeah this blog post probably isn't the best place to look, but there are many other resources, particularly Kyle's blog as Labman said
Remember you may also promote WA using almost any page here, just check it includes your referral ink
good tip Joe!
