Creating Your Website - What Does It Look Like?
In looking at websites for information or just for fun, I've figured out which ones I like more than others. The question was why? Why do some appeal to you and some don't? Why do you go back to some or look further and some you don't?
I've been in retail for the last 20 years and what I used to say when I trained employees, I think, applies to websites. I used to encourage them to think about what they don't like about customer service when they go into another retail store and what they did like. Do the things you like and don't do the things you didn't like.
So the same with websites. Personally, when I go onto a website, I don't want to be bombarded with lots of advertising and lots of options. When I see something I want to click on, I really don't want for it to reveal more and more options. I also don't like a disorganized website, one that wanders from subject to subject in the same blog.
So think like the person that's coming to your website. What would you like to see? What's your pet peeves when you look online. Share your thoughts with everyone below so everyone can think like their customers!

Since I started developing my website, I find that I do pay a lot more attention to how other sites are set up. I think that may be one of the secrets to success in this business. It's part of having a business owner mentality.
I agree, and noticed that I automatically create my website the way I like looking at sites, easy to the eye with no(t a lot of) advertising and beautiful pictures :)
I look for interesting content first, then the site colors. It's got to be easy on my eyes. I remember lately I use to get the news from yahoo, now they have changed their site and it is aggressive to me. I go elsewhere where I feel most comfortable to read. I like pictures too. I'm very visual.
Thanks and I agree. On your lego website, you should take pictures of all your creations and post them. You are so talented, that would really inspire people. And be visual!
I totally agree, focusing on your purpose is the most important thing. People should feel they are visiting with a savy person, not with someone who desperately wants to make a sale....
