I want to give up

I am so frustrated,

I am so sad right now.

I am trying to make my website smaller so I can move it to WA hosting. I used a plugin called DNUI to remove all the images I don't need or use. But when I used it, it got rid of my featured images. I had a backup of my uplaods folder and of my database so I figured I was safe. But it didn't matter, after restoring my images are still messed up.

I can't handle this anymore. There is too much to learn, too much I can't do. My current hosting sucks, My webistes aren't functioing proberly. I try to move them and I can't.

I am so upset and ready to just say, "screw it".

I am sorry for being such a downer, but I know that some of you will understand where I am coming from.

You won't give up.

If you wanted to give up you would've just leave without posting this.
But writing such a post means that you want to resolve this issue and you need help, because you DON'T wanna give up.

I think that the team here at WA will not leave you until you fix everything. But this needs some effort from your side also.

Sometimes mistakes happen. Don't think that you will walk your way without any disturbances. Look Andrea, if you give up in this road, I'm afraid that you will keep giving up in every road. Do you think that if you go now and open a store for yourself, do you think that you won't face any disturbances?
Of course you will.

It all depends on your decision now, and don't forget this post:

Thank you. No I won't give up, and yes my post was more about releasing frustrations and wanting support. I am so happy to have support from people like you :)

Hey! There will be times you will hit roadblocks but the good news is, if you cross this hurdle, you will be stronger than before. Do not give up!

If you need technical help, get the siterubix support staff to help with it. They are pretty responsive.

If it's too overwhelming now, it could be good for you to take a few days break before coming back to work on it.

I am cheering you on! :)
Jane

Thanks Jane. I feel better after seeing all of the support I have. I am so happy to be a part of this community.

I'm glad you are feeling better! :)

Have you tried contacting Wealthy Affiliate's support team? They reply pretty fast, have a go at them as your last option. There are many experienced people here, maybe you could ask then to do it for you? I gave my webhost password and username to Wealthy Affiliate so that they can take a look at it and they managed to guide me better :)

When I moved my website from HostGator, it was already there for almost 8 months and I had a lot of images there too. I contacted Wealthy Affiliate's support team and they said I could move all of those files through FTP and they even guided me step-by-step. Just sharing my experience in moving my websites though, whether you choose to stay or leave, know that we all support your decision :D

Thank you.
How large was your site file? I am so lost with FTP. I tried installing Filezilla on my computer but I couldn't get it to work.

I forgot how large, but it took me an hour to download the backup file so it was very large. To be honest, I didn't understand a thing about FTP besides knowing that FileZilla is free. You couldn't get Filezilla to work? was there any errors notifications when installing? Have a look at Welshy's training here, it was recommende to me by WA's support team when I was asking them about FileZilla. Sorry for the late reply Andrea, i was out the whole day. Let me know if it works for you, I'm here if you need help :D

Thanks. I downloaded filezilla but it doesn't connect to anything when I open it. It says "can't connect to server"

Have you changed your domain nameservers towards Wealthy Affiliate? I'm using Namecheap and previously, my nameservers were pointing towards Hostgator. So WA's namerservers would be...

ns1.mywahosting.com
ns2.mywahosting.com

After changing your nameservers, you would need to head back to Wealthy Affiliate and 'build' your website again at Site Manager. I know this doesn't make sense (I was asking the same thing), but it's the standard procedure to make sure Wealthy Affiliate knows your website has changed its nameservers to them now.

But make sure the new website that you're building at WA is using your own domain that you are trying to move, and pick a new theme. This will only be temporary because all your content are still at your previous webhost so don't worry if your website appears empty because after that, we will be moving your contents to fill in your website so everything will appear as normal.

After that, try installing FileZilla again and let me know alright, I'll get back to you soon! Late for work!

By the way, I made a video on how I moved my website from my previous webhost to WA here to help you understand the process better. Good luck!

Thanks! What I am doing is this: I exported my posts and comments, and imported them to a siterubix site. The images are still in my posts, so hopefully they stick around. I am re-uploading images as I need them and making sure I have them optimized first.

I have my new site in maintenance mode so that I don't end up getting duplicate content penalties. Once the siterubix site is I want it, I will change my nameservers and delete my old site. I hope that that works.

I did contact support, but I got the impression that I couldn't host a site as large as mine, maybe I am wrong.

Cool! I hope that works for you. I actually changed my DNS first before doing anything and instantly registered my website at Wealthy Affiliate afterwards. I didn't know that I needed to transfer my backup from my old webhost in order to get my contents so as I was building my website here, I had a panic attack knowing that my website was completely empty.

I quickly contacted Wealthy Affiliate's support after that and they told me that my contents are actually safe in side my old webhost, I just needed to download it and give it to them. That's when they guided me on the whole FTP thing.

I think its cool that you optimize your images, I have no idea we could do that and I put at least 3 pictures on all my posts! It took me an hour to download everything and another hour to upload them back through Filezilla so if it works for me, I figured it should work for you as well.

Great! Did the support team tell you to go through Filezilla too? Let me know how it goes for you :)

Hi dj-drea. I have been there and back myself. I understand where you are coming from. To keep from being overwhelmed, I suggest you prioritize your tasks and work them one at a time. If you need help, there are many, many, many hackers in the WA community who have the experience and knowledge base to assist you. Good luck!.

thank you

I totally understand where you're coming from.
I also understand that in the time I've been following you, you've been 5x as active as me, in spite of set-backs, in spite of sometimes having a lack of support at home.
Quite frankly, you don't have an ounce of quit in you.

As far as moving the site goes, you could try exporting and importing as an XML or CSV file instead of a zip file.

First, spin up a test site. (one of the nice things about unlimited hosting is that you can make sites just to play around)

Install "WP all import" on the new site. This takes a CSV or XML file and imports it to your site as posts. I love this functionality because CSV and XML can be created with any text editing program (CSV can also be viewed and created in Excel).

There is a beta version of "WP all export" available as well, from the same people who make all import. So you might be able to use that to get your current site downloaded as a CSV or XML file. If your file size is too big, just pop open the file with something like notepad and copy-paste it into smaller files.

Thank you for your support :)
I did export as an xml and then import, but all my images don't get transferred, I am honestly thinking of just doing that again and manually re-adding my images. That way I can add optimized images right from the beginning.

Andrea there are experienced members here who will help you if you just pm them. Leoemery and Craig (Labman) and Nathaniell and others might be able to help you. Even Kyle will help you but it takes a little longer generally to hear from him. Don't give up just ask one of the guys and if they can't help you they will lead you to someone who can!

thank you :)

You're welcome! :)

You can do it. Stay calm and give it your best...

thanks

You're welcome!

Hi dj-drea,
I am sorry to hear you are currently having difficulties with your website and want to give up. However, I read your profile, and your reason for joining WA is to provide income for your family so that you can basically do all that you want to do. If you quit now, you will not be able to do what you want.
When I get stuck with something regarding my website, I ask a question either in the live chat or on the dashboard. I always get an answer. I am not a computer expert, so I can't help you with that. However, there are WA members who can help you. Just ask.

I am responding to your post because I want to encourage you not to give up. If you need to take a break, then do so. Everyone has a "brownout" from time to time. However, that is not the same as quitting. During your brownout time, I suggest that you remind yourself why you joined WA and what you want to accomplish. Also go over the lessons on the areas you did not understand as well as read some of the success stories of other members.
Whether or not you decide to quit,(and I hope you don't) all of us at WA wish you the best and are here to support you.
Deidre

You said it perfectly Deidre :)
I was going to post something similar to this.

I have seen a post many times on pinterest that says...

If you feel like quitting. Think about why you started.

I wish you to be encouraged Andrea you will have all the support you need.
Just take care and breathe possibility all day long and you will succeed!

Thank you Deidre, it means a lot to have so many people supporting my success!

Well I am bummed out that people hit like and then didn't comment at all unless they sent you a private message.
I am trying to think of a great saying and it is kind of eluding me but it is something like when you try to make a change in life the universe challenges you to see how badly you want it. (I am sure i butchered that completely but I hope you get the gist).

Well first off as for the website, I am technologically challenged when it comes to stuff like that so I cannot actually help at all. If you message carson or even go to support https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/support that might be able to walk you through a process that will help get your site off the hosting you hate to here =).

The images can be fixed and it will just take time, while it always sucks to have to redo something you have already put so much hard work into sometimes stuff happens and it just needs to be done. Do not let the obstacles that life throws at you force you to give up or stop. Easier said than done for sure, I am guilty of it on more than one occasion but you will feel even more accomplished if you stick with it.

I agree that there is ALOT to learn but completely disagree on that you CANT do it. Some things take people longer than others and it is very easily to get information overload here. All I can really say is take it step by step. I tried to learn as much as i could as fast as i could and it hit a burn out almost immediately. There was so much to do, so much that other people were doing, and so much that I wanted to do but I was trying to do way too much way too fast and I just came out feeling like a failure because I couldn't get it done.

No worries about being a debbie downer, we have all been there and people who havent probably will be. Honestly I think it helps others going through the same thing to feel better when they know they are not the only ones. Maybe take a few days off, or pick one lesson and focus on that without getting distracted by anything else.

From what i can tell it looks like right now if your main focus is the site you are trying to move over then ignore all the training and focus on getting that over so you don't keep stressing about all the stuff you need to get done. In the meantime while you wait for responses or to get it going maybe do some little research or pick up in the lessons where you left off and just make notes or write out posts and save them for when your site is ready to work on again so that you don't fall behind and still have some progress to show.

Wealthy affiliate is a great community with many supportive people. If you ever need to rant, get encouragement/motivation, need a cheerleader whatever its the perfect place =).

Also feel free to pm me as well as I am normally available daily (though I might be sleeping lol) But i always get back to all my private messages.

Personally I feel the worst thing you could is say just screw it and you could possibly just need some time to get back into the mindset and to relax. Being stressed and frustrated is well, very frustrating lol and can make being productive difficult.

Just remember you have people cheering you on, and if you didn't before well I am now! You can do it! You have come this far, don't let yourself stop you.

Jean

Thank you Jean, I know I won't give up.

Really I want to be absolutely honest with you based on my own experience after 18 months. These things happen which is noted as learning curve. I cannot imagine how many times I have felt exactly like you. Triy blogging abouti it to release some stress. I personally came in here knowing nothing about building website but all that changed with lots of patience and persevering. Tell the devil he is a lier and get UP and imagine that you are no less intellect then the rest of us. Hope you feel better because I know in due time you will get better.

Thank you. I know this is all part of the process :) I will keep going.
