Although this video is about moving your website from Hostgator to WA's hosting, it can actually work for almost every other webhosts out there because basically, we need only to...

1. Back up your files from your webhost

2. Transfer those files here at WA through FileZilla

3. Contact Wealthy Affiliate's support to double check and reconfirm.

Don't worry about FileZilla, you don't have to understand how it works because you'll be only using it just this once to move your website. Wealthy Affiliate makes everything easier for you to handle your website which is why we don't cover the use of FTP clients here as it is very technical.

FileZilla is free to download, and Welshy has even covered the installation part here...

That's it, now you can say goodbye to Hostgator!

Yeah, you definitely will have to contact WA support to completely transfer your website. WordPress needs a database to function properly and WA doesn't give you access to the admin panel in order to import the database yourself. You need them to import your database for you.

True that, paul. Without WA's support, moving my website from Hostgator to WA wouldn't have been made possible.

I'm really new to all this. I thought we could just transfer directly from our old webhost to WA's hosting.

Hey there Jim, me too. Initially all I did was changing the DNS from the domain provider to Wealthy Affiliate's nameservers and hope for the best. That didn't end up well, my website became empty and it freaked me out. I thought that changing the DNS was enough but it wasn't because all my content disappeared after that.

I then contacted WA's support and they told me that my content should still be within Hostgator so they asked me to retrieve the file so that they can receive it through FTP. So I backed up my files in Hostgator, installed FileZilla, transferred those files there, contacted Wa's support team again and hope for the best and that's how I managed to move my site. It looks complicated but if you look at it from an overview, its easier to grasp :D

Thanks, Riaz. I don't plan to need this right away, but do you think I should download FileZilla right away and just save it until I need it?

No worries! Filezilla has a small size, its free, and you can install it anytime you want so personally, I think its better if you just install it when you're about to use it Jim, no pressure. I like my desktop clean so I usually delete files that i don't use. But if you'd like to install it right away there's no problem in that :D

Hi Riaz,so the procedure is as follows moving from hostgator to WA?
1.Download file from hostgator
2.I have 10 domains to transfer ,do I change nameservers so I can create new domains in WA at this stage or do I wait until I upload file?
3.Upload hostgator file to one of my domains?
4.Sent support ticket to WA to separate the file?
Thanks in Advance...

Right you are Tom,
While waiting for your backup file to finish loading, you can head over to your domain provider and change the DNS. You need to do that for each and everyone of your websites and you can do that any time you feel comfortable with, no worries. Once you've uploaded the Hostgator file to your domain through FTP, you can just direct with the WA support team and they can help separate the files for you. hope that helps!
