I've made my first couple of blog posts and I would like to include some basic interactivity with the images (change on mouseover, etc.). I know how to do this using javascript-

Hi

I am not particularly knowledgeable on Javascript, but I am aware that this is possible but can result in conflicts between any jQuery scripts added for menus, sliders etc. and existing plugins and theme files.

You might also need to add any scripts into existing core WordPress files depending upon your theme.

I would suggest looking at the WordPress site codex.wordpress.org
and
www.wpbeginner.com as 2 good sources for all things wordpress.

I think that there is also a javascript toolbox (not sure of the exact name) plugin that might lead you in the right direction.

Sorry, I can't be of any greater assistance

Dave

No worries- this is quite helpful.

As a follow-up, html markup can be inserted directly into posts by typing into the "text" tab Javascript and PHP code can be added with plugins.
I've never been able to work with PHP before (it is server side code), so I'm pretty excited about that.

I am aware of the HTML markup usage, but unfortunately or fortunately in my case, I have used a paid-for Wordpress theme for a number of years that has full support for custom PHP, CSS & javascript included.

My theme even includes a CSS builder & PHP builder for those not fully conversant in the languages. So you see I am somewhat spoilt and I am not aware of what the limitations are for free or other paid-for themes are these days.

I get very frustrated when people ask questions in the community about how to add a logo or change the colour of this or that or tweak something. I know it is likely to be a theme limitation so I am unable to help or advise as I am never presented with such issues due to my themes EXTENSIVE customisation options.

Though this in itself could be very daunting for beginners and not an expense necessarily worthwhile for many.

I hope you have been able to find suitable plugins that satisfy your needs.

All the best
Dave
