When In Doubt Throw It Out
Is your workspace messy and full of clutter? When you think about your ideal workspace, what does it look like? Does it consist of a nice and clean desk with two monitors, and a single vase of flowers? Does it have a small stack of papers?
Having a clean, organized workspace is a great way to boost productivity and even boost your overall happiness in your job and in your daily life. But keeping a clutter-free space can be quite difficult. The good news is that there are ways that you can keep things in order and avoid that nasty clutter.
Envision that perfect workplace. Would you like to see your desk clear of all clutter? Find a home for your paper clips, pens, sticky notes, etc. Clearing your desk will clear your mind and help you focus. Make that vision a reality.
Simplify. If you don't need it or use it, then get rid of it. It is just taking up space, and you need room to breathe.
File all paperwork. Those piles will just keep piling up, so get yourself a filing cabinet or file in one of your office desk drawers. Filing papers as soon as you get them will give you instant gratification.
Electronically transfer business cards. If you are like me, you have a gazillion business cards from clients stacked in piles or with rubber bands around them. They are all business contacts, so transfer their info into your email contact list. Ok....maybe you want to hang on to the cards? Then find a shoebox or something to put them in. Get them out of the way.
Don't procrastinate. This is a good one. We look at our mess and say we will take care of it tomorrow and then tomorrow never comes. Taking care of that clutter right away will boost your happiness, and give you a feeling of accomplishment that you got something done.
Clean up at the end of each day. You can avoid all the clutter by tidying up at the end of each day. It will only take a few minutes compared to the hours that you will have to put in if you procrastinate.
And....finally, remember ~ When in doubt, throw it out!!
Happy Friday everyone and have a great weekend!

Hard for us PackRats, though, Diane! My Man Cave has a little of Everything. It's like Ray Bradbury's room that he wrote in. Kinda Stimulates the Creativity, though! Whether it's a Rock, a Shell, a Special NicNac...They all have some Significance! My Curse is seeing Beauty in the Mundane. :)
I struggle with this Diane! My husband is OCD sometimes so he is good at cleaning...we both feel better when things are clean.
I am very organized, but my husband and I have totally different ideas of what organized means....LOL
Great post Diane. I also find this idea useful when needing to clear out closets of old clothes, the general rule is if you haven't worn it for a year, then you're not likely to! Have a wonderful weekend :)
