My First WA Commission Payment: A Success Story!
You know, it's kind of funny. Even after being here for a while, the idea of making money online still seemed rather foreign to me.
I've seen many, many people post success story after success story here, but it always seemed like it was either a few cents or 4 figures.
However, I don't mean to discredit those who made a few cents off their first commissions; the fact that these entrepreneurs made money online at all speaks of their drive, determination, passion, and skills.
Meanwhile, it seemed as though the people who were making thousands per month were like masterclass affiliates. To me, it seemed as though reaching their level of success would be difficult.
Of course, they had years of experience and the knowledge to back up their success. It just seemed like it would take forever for me to reach it. And I really, really wanted to reach those heights.
*If you aren't interested in my story, feel free to skip to the end to see my commission. Thank you!
My WA Start.
I made one website dedicated to combining exercise and gaming. While it was fun and I made a few good posts, I never really felt as though my niche was going to be profitable. And nothing scared me more than wasting my time and money on something that wouldn't bear fruit.
So I dropped the site and started anew with a WA site.
I was against this at first: it seemed as though this niche was way too saturated. Not to mention that it seemed rather difficult trying to get people to join as a referral.
Despite my reservations, I decided to give it a whirl. But I was impatient. Far too impatient.
And it was my impatience that led me to commit one of the greatest online money-making traps: attempting to buy your profits.
I figured that all I needed was traffic. I had written what I thought was an amazing WA review. It was long, detailed, and even had a YouTube video of me reviewing the site feature by feature on both a new and premium account.
I bought 10,000 visitors for a month at a price of around $70, gave the traffic source site my web link, and waited. Sure enough, my website received tons of traffic. My WA referral links were being clicked on hundreds of times!
I was getting excited. I thought that I just needed 2-3 people to join under my link. If I could do that, I would've considered my venture a grand success.
But as the month rolled by, I noticed something...off. While I was getting tons of visitors, my bounce rate was remarkably high. In addition, nobody was signing up. Not even as a starter member.
After a whole month of 10,000 purchased visitors, NONE of them became a referral. I was $70 poorer and had nothing to show for it except for inflated website stats.
Restart, Regroup, Refocus!
I knew that something had to change. It became incredibly clear to me that I needed to stop looking for shortcuts and start following the training.
But even with such great training, I found myself feeling slightly overwhelmed. So I decided to focus on one thing only: pumping out quality articles on a consistent basis.
I tried to do this daily. It worked for a while, but I found it too difficult to manage for long periods of time. So I shortened it to at least 3 posts per week.
I ignored everything else. No Facebook promotion, no Pinterest, no Twitter, nothing. I just posted and made sure my articles were SEO optimized.
Slowly but surely, my efforts paid off. I started seeing blips of authentic traffic hitting my site through SEO alone.
And eventually, I got my first referral.
I was super happy! Even though that referral didn't even bother with setting up their account, I knew that I was on the right track. I knew that what I was doing was working.
Motivated, I continued on. Posting and getting more and more referrals. Probably at a rate of 2-3 every week.
Then, I got the fated email. WA congratulated me on a premium referral commission.
If I thought I was happy with my first referral, I was ecstatic with this one! I eagerly hopped on my computer and checked my email...
HUH!? I ONLY MADE $8?
Then it hit me: the first month is at a reduced rate. That's why I didn't make as much as I was expecting. But I still felt as though all of my hard work was slightly cheated. After all, if that person quit their membership, I would've only made $8.
Then something else hit me: My job as a referrer wasn't over yet with the sale. With just about every other membership for every other "magic money-making system", the relationship between referrer and referral ends once they spend their money.
But here at WA, we are trying to help each other build an online business. That's not a one and done kind of thing.
It was my job to be their for my new premium referral. If I didn't do a good enough job helping them succeed and they quit, that was on me. I still needed to earn that recurring commission.
So, I tried to be the best mentor I could be to my referrals and to anyone who asked. I found out that I actually enjoy doing it! I get to help others and develop solutions to problems that I may not have even encountered yet.
All in all, this place is truly amazing.
My Thanks to Wealthy Affiliate
Thank you, Wealthy Affiliate, for showing me that your average Joe can actually make money online. It takes hard work, dedication, and persistence like you wouldn't believe, but it's possible for anyone and everyone.
I'm proud to say that I have actually gotten 2 recurring commissions from my 3 premium referrals. The last one? That awesome person actually went yearly! (My yearly hasn't cleared yet, so I'm still waiting for that one)
I know it may not seem like much, but it's very important to me. I'll continue to work hard and see just how far I can go!
This community is the best! Thanks for everything!

Congrats DenverS!!!
Every person here that posts when they start earning, is inspiring all of us to work harder on our sites and to not loose sight of our aspirations and dreams!!
The amount of the earnings is not important in the beginning, we all have to start somewhere. When we get hired at a new job we do not receive top pay for our position, we have to work for it.
Your article is proof that we can do it, but we have to work for it!!!
Thank you for the inspiring words!! This helped get me out of the slump I was in. Just had a bad couple of days. And positive news always gears me up!!!
Thank You,
Stacie Fortson
Thanks for posting Denver, it does give inspiration to the rest of us. Congratulations on your referrals.
