Reinventing Myself

The end of the year is a time for reflection and analysis. This is a good thing because what follows is usually new goals, new enthusiasm and new hope for the coming year. In January, I will have been a member of WA for a year. I have enjoyed every single day of membership and I certainly know more about online businesses, affiliate marketing, keywords, etc. than I did a year ago. I've accomplished quite a bit. I have a website, done some training, became active in the community, maintained a good WA ranking, and befriended many other members. Am I where I thought I'd be? Am I making money? Have I finished the training? Do I have a niche site? The answer to all these questions is NO. That is why I am reinventing myself....a process which I've already started. Let me explain why this is necessary.

I Believed the Hype

I grew up believing that when I reached a certain age, I could stop working. I would have money saved and that, along with my Social Security, would be able to live a comfortable lifestyle. I looked forward to retirement and life would be easy...no stress, no deadlines, no schedules....just living easy. After I did retire (forced because of health issues), I held on to that picture, even though it wasn't my reality. I could see that money was going to run out, and life wasn't easy. Being in a wheelchair, everything I thought I would be doing had to be re-evaluated. Resentment crept in because I still wanted to live the way I dreamed I would be living at this age.

I had always thought having an Online Business would be fun and when WA came along I felt this was a good avenue to achieve that. But my frame of mind was still that I was retired. I wasn't suppose to have to work hard, earn an income, and learn all this new stuff. And this past year, I approached WA as a hobby, which I enjoyed. I wanted to keep it fun and loose because, after all, I am retired.

I'm not sure why or when it happened (although I suspect it was reading all the accomplishments that fellow members were having and getting encouragement from them) but I just realized that it was time to create a new picture for myself. So I am reinventing myself. I am no longer retired. When I meet new people, I no longer say that I am retired. Instead I give them my Business Card. Yes, my first step in the reinvention process was to print some cards. It lets people know that I have an Online Business. I am a Blogger. I am an Affiliate Marketer. And I honestly believe that if I follow this avenue, my original picture of the easy life can still materialize.

Focus Has Changed

WA has been part of my daily routine since day one, but more as an observer. Now I am an active participant. In addition to cheering people on and validating their progress, I am going to be the example of how to do things. Yes, that means writing every day, publishing every week, finishing Bootcamp Training, and finding my niche. As so many members have shared, it really is a mind set. WA is no longer a fun hobby for entertainment purposes only. It is my education and avenue to the new me. Every single WA blog I have read over the years has kept me in the game. All of you are so inspiring. In some of my comments from the past, I have alluded to the fact that I was going to be more productive, but as my supportive, better half has always said " Timing is everything". This is my time!

Wealthy Affiliate Has It All

I couldn't be in a better place for my reinvention. I am constantly impressed by Kyle and Carson and the tools that they provide in WA. In the New Year, I plan to take advantage of them all:

  • Making Jaaxy Lite part of the Premium membership
  • SiteContent and the thousands of free images
  • Training through Certification Courses and Bootcamp
  • Live video training
  • All the training that members create
  • Live chat and the ability to ask questions...and receive quick responses

So, in the new year as I navigate through the training and develop my websites, expect to see more questions from me. I intend to write more WA blogs to share my progress, but my focus will be my websites.

Well, this a rather a long way of saying that I'm looking forward to the New Year. To all the fabulous members of WA, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous and healthy New Year.

Hi Debbie,
A very heartfelt blog that is true for many of us. While I'm still working (I'm in my late 60's) I've felt very similar to you. That's why I joined WA about 5 months ago.

I've learned a lot...but not enough....started my first site...and now am trying to build an audience for my niche site. It's a challenge carving out the time given a full-time job but I try to devote an hour or so a day for blogging, training or just checking the community.

As the holidays and New Year's approach I wish you the best of success and may all that you wish for be the least you receive.

Cheers!
Steve

Thanks you Steve...with all this support we both will succeed.

you belonged to the 40/40/40 club that was perpetrated by past generations and the lifestyle your parents believed in. You work for 40 hours a week for 40 years and retire on 40% of your income. Inflation changed that very quickly. Here's another reality---families were never taught about financial security or creating wealth through investments.

That's why the middle class is dwindling

Absolutely...I hope the younger generation is getting different messages.

Hi Debbie it's a wonderful blog post it really touched me, and I love it! You have realized something important for your future and it sounds amazing.

You have always been there for me, supporting me since I first joined in March, and I am looking forward to seeing your blog posts and helping out when I can.

Thank you and I wish you the same.
Merry Christmas to you! and wishing you a healthy, fulfilling and prosperous 2018 and beyond!

Thanks..as I said seeing people such as you accomplishing so much and sharing your journey, keeps pushing me forward.

You are welcome :)
