Distracted From Making Money

Well, another couple of interesting weeks here at WA. I saw a great comment yesterday that rang so true. Someone was questioning how to be successful here at WA and the response was clear. Stick to the classes and don't get distracted. Here is a list of this weeks 'distractions'.

  1. Read a great post about Wordpress Templates and saw a recommendation for ElegantThemes. Investigated, yes, they are great and way better than the free theme I have been using. A good investment, but then came the big investment in time while I changed themes.
  2. Google+, Great video from Jay last week on using Google+ for local marketing. Jumped in and have built up a good following of local businesses. I found many, many local businesses are not Google+ verified. Makes a great list to target and offer my help. If only the Google+ reporting tools were better - so more time spent looking into Google+ reports....
  3. Another post mentioned using Yoast SEO tools rather than All in One. So tempting, had to be investigated! Actually, I do now think Yoast gets the thumbs up, some of the Google search descriptions really did need some work. Yoast has a neat bulk editor which did make life easier, but did consume more time.
  4. An email from Market Samurai grabbed my attention - thats what they are meant to do! Another post on WA recommended it so was tempted to explore a trial. Its a massive product. Just looking into one set of keywords and using the 'Find Content' button one of my own sites appeared in first place! Now I was using a completely unconnected email address - How did they do that! It does not rank in Google yet. More time consumed..
  5. The domestic chores needed sorting - Check energy bills, we need to transfer to cheaper supplier, Pet insurance needs renewing etc. etc.
  6. Oh, and time to update my WA Blog.

As you can see, at no point did I create any content, that is the real mantra here. So today is Day of Content Creation. Just by writing it down and publishing this statement will force me into it!

My advice is, stick to the WA Courses. Avoid distracting plugins, utilities and recommendations. Follow to the letter and when in doubt redo a class. Create content, create content. Lessons learnt.

Would love to hear your distractions from making money! I am sure I am not alone.

All the best for Easter,

David

When you add it up, who knows therein may lie your fortune.

LOL. I posted a similar blog this morning because I kept getting distracted by new shiny things. Thankfully I was guilted into doing two things off my list of 6 and still have tomorrow to nail the final 4. Even at 4 out of 6 I'm going to be chuffed. Gald to know I'm not the only one with the attnetion span of a goldfish!

Great minds think alike! Its now sunny here and I am being urged to get some outside painting done - more distraction! All the best, David

E-mails/discussions/blogs and normal life things like eating, laundry, etc distract me from my content. The first step is realizing it's a problem. Then I had to set my priorities and set aside time for each. Some of my friends don't understand. They think when you retire, you really don't have a life. It's all balance and sometimes you lose it but you just refocus and start again. Happy Easter. Yep, more time from WA. :-(

Sounds like we are all entering AA or similar. Maybe we need a DA MSA(Distractions annymous mutual support group)

Great post... I encounter this issue on a daily basis... just not enough hours in the day..lol
You can actually consider distractions 1-4 as valuable learning experiences, where you research, gain insight and knowledge, then use that new information to move forward in a new and enlightened way.
I guess its all in how ya look at it... who knows, one day one of those little distractions could open a doorway that leads you to a million dollar idea.
Wishing you all the best!!

I usually "flag" the mails I think may have useful info. I go back to them after I'm done with my tasks for the day. Although I get carried away by some distractions sometimes, what can I say, I'm only human, lol.

I like the picture, "pot of gold". I too tend to veer off course, too many things look soooo interesting. I, like you said, do best if I have at least one doable goal each morning. After I accomplish that, I can check into the "interesting" things if I still have time. FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS. Thanks for sharing!

It is on my desk! Too much travelling in a previous corporate life when it was easier to not convert the last foreign currency back into pounds... One day I will add it all up...

Distractions are very easy here on WA but I find some of them educational hence I hardly delete my WA mails so i can go back when less busy. Prioritizing is the name of the Game!

Hey David! Thank you for your blog. I need this reminder: "To stick to the classes and don't get distracted". All the best for Easter too! Warner

Yes David that is one of the cons here, the distractions are so numerous but even with all these distractions, you still learn so much from them lets face it whatever you do you learn all the time, I am still having trouble with my schedule, sticking to it but I am in the fortunate position being retired with time on mt hands - will get there in the end.
