A little overwhelmed.

Hey you guys,

Felt like I needed to put this into words!

So I started January 26, 2018, with SWAG. My new website is now 16 weeks old, which is still very new...

I follow all of the training and do most of my SWAG tasks except an important one:

12 posts per month! That's 3 a week or 1 every 2.333 days.

I know for a fact that this is very possible, as many of you have been able to surpass this. But I am way behind. Just published my 20th post yesterday. Got about 22,000 words in. So I am missing more than half of what I should have been posting.

My main obstacle is TIME. I am doing this to be able to have more time freedom, but right now, it's the complete opposite. I feel that whenever I am not at my 9 to 5 job, I should be working on my Online business. But it's impossible I know. So I do what I can whenever I can, but it can get a bit overwhelming!

I find myself working and researching 6 to 8 hours on every post, and then revising them like 20 times. Am I too hard on myself? Probably!

I know that the rewards are ahead! I also know that in time all of my efforts will be quantified, but right now it is also frustrating because I am behind in what I should have done.

One very positive thing is I do have one sale in April, just about 12 weeks in, but nothing since then...

Traffic is sporadic as some days are good, others are pitiful. Gotta keep on keeping on I know.

I just felt like reaching out and get some feedback from the community! :)

You are doing really well, Denis, and you shouldn't be so hard on yourself. Writing 22,000 words in that amount of time and after a 9-5 job is very good. The SWAG tasks are there to give you some guidance and a challenge but everybody needs to adjust them for themselves. Everybody's day only has 24 hours, whether you have a full-time job or are completely free to use all the hours of the day. So no reason at all to be frustrated about the writing outcome.

Hi Sammy (Beate)
Thank you so much for your kind words. I had sent out a call for some encouragement from the community, and I got a really great response! I am blessed to be part of such a great group of people!

To your success! and everybody's success here at WA!!!

I totally agree with what SCash said at the beginning. Kyle did say it well. We shouldn't compare ourselves to anyone else.
And congrats on the sale.
Just to let you know, my site is 6 months old and hasn't made a sale yet but it will!!

Tried and True

Elaine

Hi Elaine,

I know that we should not compare ourselves, and I try not to. But I find myself looking at other's success and think what am I doing wrong?
All the while, from all of the encouragement I got today, I see that I'm not doing too bad after all! :)

We human being just need a little push, or a kick in the butt once in a while to get us going again!

Thank you for your kind words

I'm in the same boat as you - working a full-time job and trying to complete the SWAG tasks.

Are you using Kyles batch method to write your content? It works.

One month, I was able to write a post each day for a week.

It hasn't been easy but it's worth it as I'm starting to see results.

Keep on going at your own pace.

All the best!

I do use the speech recognition to type faster which in fact does bring my time down quite a bit! The research is what is taking me a lot of time. Can't post something without making certain that what you put out there are true facts. It will get better as I get more and more experience!

Thank you Jackie for your encouragement!

You're welcome Denis.
I agree. The research does take some time.

Best wishes.

I also feel your pain but Kyle said it best don’t linger too long dwelling on the past and what wasn’t done, start where you are now. Also keep in mind Kyle is giving us a blueprint fortunately we’re not building a house later we can go back over the blueprint and fill in the gaps

I just had a similar conversation with someone who had the same feelings about a side business they started. It's really hard to watch people plow forward and share successes if you don't have the time to match their progress. I think it's important to remember that everyone's journey is different and will take the time it takes, and try not to put too much pressure on yourself. This system works even for the slow, so for some of us it's just about patience. I have to tell myself that just to stay motivated. ;)

Jamie! You made me laugh when you say "it's just about patience". I am such an impatient man. I want everything done now, and perfectly. I know it's my second obstacle after time.

Gotta get "The Tortoise Mindset: How Slow & Steady Wins the Race!"

Thanks for you input I appreciate! :)

I think patience is hard work, too. lol

But it's still the best advice I've received for those times when I feel like everyone is going faster than me.

First, congratulations on your sale!

You are not alone, I only work part time and help with my grandson and it's still been difficult to write 3 posts per week. My site is almost 4 months old, and I definitely have felt overwhelmed at times with trying to keep up with all of the challenges. I haven't been able to be in Live Chat very often, I'm only averaging about 2 posts a week, and trying to expand into social media has been difficult, to say the least!

So I have to remind myself that it's ok to not beat myself up if I don't achieve a goal for the week or the day. As long as I'm making forward progress, putting in a good effort, and producing quality content, I'm doing fine.

Last week I got called in and had to drop everything to work 3 days in a row and by the time I got to have time to actually sit down and write an article, I felt totally behind and frustrated. So I took a few minutes to look over my website and see how much content was there and how much I've accomplished in a very short time frame. It gave me a really positive feeling and renewed energy that I needed!

You're doing great, just keep making forward progress the best you can, and you'll get there!

Janelle

"As long as I'm making forward progress, putting in a good effort, and producing quality content, I'm doing fine"

That is what stood out in your response! I have to print this one and put it on my computer screen! :)

Thanks Janelle!

Yes, it's hard to balance a full time job with content creation. I've thought about taking a few days of personal time so I can focus more on WA and squeeze in some rest. On one hand, my job gives me a lot of personal time (on paper). But on the other, my job is so demanding that I don't always get to take it without interruption.

But I always come back to my mom's words-- small strokes fall great oaks. Keep at it. Slow consistent progress is better than no progress at all.

Hope you find the time and encouragement you need to make the progress you want.

Thanks Derrick! Love that quote from your mom!

Ha! Yeah, me too!

It happens, especially when you are working so hard at it and trying to accomplish everything. Sometimes it just seems like there aren't enough hours in the day to get it all done.

But don't beat yourself up about it. If you can, make a schedule that would allow you to be consistent as well as help you avoid experiencing those feelings of being overwhelmed.

Maybe you can also include some short articles (at least 300 to 500 words) to offset the longer ones that you are writing, to balance things out a bit.

Hope this helps.

Good idea! It doesn't really have to be 1500 words on every post! I will try that!

Thanks!

two things....

1. always remember "DONE is better than PERFECT"

6-8 hours on each post and revising them 20 times can be a bit much. If you are writing 2000 or 3000 word (or more) articles, than that could be necessary.

I just polished off a 6100 word post that took me 3 days to write and get perfect.

So do not paralyze yourself with making it perfect. Get it on the web so it can start getting traffic.

2. imagine pushing a car. It is difficult to get it get it going (especially over the hump that is the google sandbox).

but once the car is budges, it goes an inch.... than a few feet, then it picks up steam and it is GONE. ever tried to jump in a moving car? It's difficult right?

That is affiliate marketing with blogging in a nutshell... it does take a ton of work to get it going... but as you gain experience, you will get faster, be able to punch out 1000 word articles very quickly.

Then after a few months, when that traffic starts rolling in, it will be hart to stop.

so i say all that to since you are new, it will feel like you are doing a ton of work for no money and no reason, but you are building a house and only a couple months in.

lay it brick by brick.

after a while you will be able to step back and see a finished house. but it takes time and effort to get there.

so keep going. if yuo build it, it will come... im not kidding, it will. lol.

I also feel your pain but Kyle said it best don’t linger too long dwelling on the past and what wasn’t done, start where you are now. Also keep in mind Kyle is giving us a blueprint fortunately we’re not building a house later we can go back over the blueprint and fill in the plugs

I love that "Done is better than perfect". Thank you for that!

Sorry BenjisDad I posted to your response in error

Yep! you got that right! It's all a matter of keeping on!

I knew that I would get a boost just by reaching out!!

My posts are at least 1000 words but I have some that are over 2000, so I guess that I have to keep on going!

I have been here for almost 2 and half years, so I did gain a lot of experience with my previous trainings and website, but I also feel like a newbie with this niche. :)

I really like the "pushing a car" comparison. It makes a lot of sense and is very true when it comes to Affiliate marketing!

Thanks for your encouraging words!

I feel your pain. I put in around 60hrs a week at my normal job. Between the trainings, trying to write, and everything else. You have way more content up than me at this point. I am only about 5 weeks in and have 3 posts and have started on my next. Hang in and trust the process.

Yeah, I guess that most of us are in the same boat. Let's row and grow together and we'll reach the shore a lot faster! :)

Thanks for stopping by!
