Time To Read: 4 Minutes or "Too Little Time To Bother With A Fresh Coffee"

Did you know that if you use a copywriting formula whenever you write anything, it can eliminate the guesswork about what works and what does not. It can save you from creating bad copy that will not keep your readers on your pages and website.

It also will help make sure that you cover all the basics that need to be in posts. Things like reviews, explainer posts, etc. will convert more readers into buyers, and also will build you a bunch of fans that will come back again and again.

These simple formulas will also help you look at that blank piece of paper without fear. They can help help you generate some A/B test ideas faster so you can further improve your copy. You will be anle to see what the problem may be anywhere in your copy - whether it is a CTA button, a headline, a video script, or in the body of your content.

There are a ton of formulas out there, and all have their strong points, so picking one that suits your writing style will be easy. They make it easier to cover everything and when you complete them your article/copy has almost written itself.

Let's discuss just a few after we go through the process of writing in general terms(there are more, but I want to give you just a taste of what is out there)...

---

The Process

For almost any kind of writing that you may be doing in support of your online business, you can start with a formula or a template.

First Step...Organize Yourself/Create Customer Avatars!

I have some sample worksheets that you can go through to create customer avatars so you know who you are writing copy for. You can get one youself by doing a simple search using Google and these you will find for free (a good thing).

You may have different target audiences that you will approach with your copy so you would want to create one avatar for each. These are extremely useful when it comes to you knowing who your audiences are and they can be improved over time as you gather data from your sales activities...

Next comes the many elements that you will use for presenting copy to your audiences...

Just starting out with online affiliate marketing, you likely will be doing mainly blog posts, but as time goes on, you will start adding more tools and methods of getting traffic to your pages and offers.

Here are some examples of the types of copy you will start to work with:

  • Any web page
  • Long-form sales pages
  • Video sales letters (VSL)
  • Emails
  • Ads
  • Tweets
  • Blog posts
  • Social Posts
  • Scripts for Chat Bots
  • Scripts for Videos

You likely will be workng on more than one of the above items at any given time, so it is best to keep them organized in some manner, by topic, or by type of copy or whatever works for you. After that is completed, you then can roll up your sleeves and work through the elements for each type of copy.

Second Step: Elements You Must Deal With...

You use the templates/guide to write a better:

  • Titles or a Headline for a page or a post
  • Value proposition or what is in it for them
  • Testimonials you receive and include
  • Any bullet lists that would fit
  • Your body copy
  • Your Call to Action (CTA)
  • If it is an email - a good subject line

Third Step: Choose a template/guide to follow to flesh out the elements above...

There are so many different options that you have but I will limit this to four that will work. If you want to know about more, do a simple Google search and it will not take long to discover a lot more.

---

(1) AIDA Method

Attention – Grab the reader's attention with some splashy headline, wake 'em up!

Interest – Keep their attention and keep 'em on your page using some fresh unique and unusual, even counter-intuitive information...

Desire – Appeal to them on an emotional level - tug at their heart or conscience so they want what you’re offering...Make them HAVE to have what you have or are offering...

Action – Lastly ask them to take the next step, provide a clear path to that (CTA/button)

---

(2) Addition or subtraction from the model above - AIDCA or IDCA

Attention

Interest

Desire

Conviction - NEW

Action

You are adding in a moment of pre-close “conviction” to the copy. It will help beat the skeptical readers get to "yes" from their natural tendency to say "no." Andy Maslen puts it this way "Convince prospects that it’s safe to act because what you’re saying is true."

Do this by adding in some of the following copy:

  • Personal testimonials
  • Any endorsements available
  • Pull on some statistics, some data points, or applicable figures
  • Include a demonstration if possible
  • Add in a guarantee

If it will work better, switch to the IDCA method, where you simply drop the Attention step. Sometimes you already have their attention so you need only to hold their attention...Do this by capturing their interest through the copy.

When would you use an IDCA approach over an AIDCA approach?

Let's say you’ve gotten someone on your page from an email you sent or maybe an ad that you have placed...You already have their attention. You can go straight into the interest portion. This also means you have more space to build up the other elements as possible.

(3) AIDA Version Three (Or Four, if you count the above formulas as two)

Yet another version of the AIDA model comes from a copywriter named Danny Iny from Firepole Marketing. He has turned it inro a six-step plus one formula that goes like this:

- Consider the context

- Grab their attention

- Move the reader quickly to having a desire to have a solution to their problem

- State the consequences of failing to act - which is what he calls "the gap."

- Provide the solution, keeping it brief, adding only what is require to get them to the last step

- Call for the reader to take action

The additional element that flows throughout this model is that you have to remain credible for each step...

Now for the last one we will look at...

---

(4) The PAS Formula

This is one of the most reliable sales formula ever invented per many folks in the copywriting world. It is used for everything from tweets to posts, from long-form sales pages to explainer videos/ads,

Here is what PAS stands for:

Problem – You present the problem that your prospect feels

Agitation – You poke away at that problem until the reader feels it deeply

Solution – At that point you can provide your solution to the problem that you have agitated

This is an easy to comprehend and implement model that you can use.

NOTE: With all of these, you would simply go through all the elements of whatever copy that you are working on and add in content to fit the focus of the model and steps within that model. It will not write the whole copy for you, none of these formulas do that, but they will help you move forward and get the results that you are seeking.

So What Is Next After I Prepare My Copy Using A Formula/Model?

Great, you have now done your homework, you know who you are focusing on and you have copy ready to test. The next steps would be to test them out and see how they perform. Try changing one thing at a time, testing the versions, selecting the best one after the test, and over time you will have some really good copy!

There is a ton more that I could include here, but really I just wanted open your mind to the many ways of attacking your target audience with your offers. I highly recommend that you do more research and learn as much as you can about copywriting.

Doing so will make you a much better writer and more effective as an affiliate marketer. It likely will include some training that you find in addition to what you have here, and that is okay, I always am learning here and elsewhere and know that it is a good thing to expand your horizons by learning more...

Let me know your favorite formula that you are using to write copy and if you have questions, just drop them in the comments below and I will come back to you.

Cheers!

ALLELUIA. Thanks Dave, I am new and so happy I found you in this early phase. I have printed all the insightful tips from your post. I will be editing my post and working on my website to align with the knowledge gained from the pros here. Keep teaching, we are learning. Kudos

Super and glad to hear that the info may help! Cheers and best of luck as you go forward! Dave : )

Great info. Thanks

Thanks, David, Some really good pointers in this post. I have book-marked it for re-reading. I am sure another read is warranted.

Thanks for popping through...I am adding a few posts like these in the hope that it will help members write more focused articles/reviews/etc.

Also, most at some point will start thinking about the other elements of online marketing too, so these posts will help in that regard.

It is a leap from just starting to drilling down to the point where you are creating ads, sales pages, email swipes, etc. but as the business grows, that is what happens...

These posts should help get members in the right frame of mind when that point arrives...

Cheers!

Exactly what is needed. Clear concise ideas about streamlining the process for WA members.
The training here is great, and once completed we have a wealth of knowledge, but, making it easier to use consistently is a great thing.

Thanks again.

You betcha! : )

Just when I thought I was getting the hang of this ......there is more.
Thank you for the information David.

I think you are getting the hang of it, the drilling down part is where you refine and hone the skills that you now have. I am a curious lad, always have been, so this is okay for me...

It is amazing just how deep down the rabbit hole you can go with this online marketing business. The more you know, the more you know you don't know.

On the other hand, 90% of people in the business will not go down that rabbit hole, so you will be like cream and rise to the top. The air is fine at the top, as is the cream!

You are more than welcome!

Cheers!

I totally agree with that,'the more you know the more you realise you don't know.'
My problem is wanting to know everything now. It's why I'm not as far forward as I should be. Every exciting looking training that popped up I was doing rather than focusing on the original training.
Once I realised I go more focused.

Makes sense...Cheers! Dave : l

Awesome Dave. Very helpful post. Will definitely bookmark this to read and reread as necessary.
