This is the last car I built, she was a fun car! I have known for years that I would be successful later in life once I found the right business vehicle. This is it!
My hobbies are Muscle Cars, lots of Baseball Games, (one of my sons plays at a very high level), and spending time with my other son.
I'm looking forward to massive success in this arena and when I actually know something, giving back and paying it forward.

OK I'm envious, my next project car will be a '68. The one I've pictured now lives in Texas, I live in Kansas. The economy, divorce etc. you know the story. She looked like new when she went down the road. A true '69 Z/28 car, I put a correct DZ in her considering the original was MIA. Nothing else sounds like a Chevy 302 up in the RPMs-they would go until they blew apart!
I've had a lot of things on my plate recently and I've started out much slower than I wanted to. My schedule has finally settled down so I can & will devote more time to my WA project. My experiences here have been nothing but positive. This community is unbelievable. I still consider myself a newbie at this, but when I have more confidence with WA I'll start trying to answer questions. LOL! Take care Jimmie!

One day I'll begin a muscle car blog or something like that. Maybe if you do also we could be guest writers on each others sites or something like that. Hey we may be able retire someday with a few toys to play with!
I'm helping my buddy with his '69 Chevelle SS, 4 speed 12 bolt car. It turns out it was an original 375 HP car, no documentation though. If we both could take a week off of work we can have her finished in a week or less. You know how that is..... I cant' wait til we're tearing up the streets this Spring!

Hell Yeah! You let him steal your boat engine? The things we do for our kids... So if he blows it he buys it? Unless you do first? That sounds like a fun car. Have you got an eta your shooting for?

We should probably move this conversation to PM so we don't bore the non-gearheads to death. Just send me a Private Message if you'd like to and we can continue the conversation.

I hear ya!! Nothing else on the road has that classic "feel". Keeping my eye out for a 1968 GT500KR chassis. I have a 1962 Ford 427 side-oiler up at the ranch in the machine shop, in central Wa. just need the body for 500hp. Pro Build.

When I was a kid there was a neighbor a few blocks away with a '68 GT 500 KR, Red Black interior. That car was immaculate to the point that I was walking over to a buddies one afternoon and he was in the garage with a can of Gumout & a mini paint brush cleaning the carb. He took a break and showed me the car. It was unbelievable. The early Fastback Mustangs are so good looking!

Hey, Dave, I gotta ask. Is that a Z-car?
Reply
DaveSum Premium
Yes, 302 4 speed Posi. There is no other engine that sounds like a 302 up in the rpms-heck back in the day guys didn't shift until 7200 or so. I guess that explains why so many cars don't have their original engines.... The same goes for all the other over square engines that rapped out quicker than you could shift-em! BOOOM!
As you are well aware its too doggone expensive to drive the old engines like that these days. I like your Stang. I really appreciate the old iron from all the manufacturers. Nothing looks like the cars we grew up with today.
I'm helping my buddy with his '69 SS Chevelle, shes a 396 375HP 4 speed Posi with I think 411 gears. When the car gets back from the body shop the interior and drivetrain are already in so we should be ready to tear up the streets this Spring-I can't wait!

Reply
DaveSum Premium
Actually neither one-but I'll work on those in the future. I'm doing the Bootcamp now, but maybe I should have done one on muscle cars. It might be going better/faster if I had done the cars. My thinking right or wrong was that I'd make my mistakes with bootcamp and Kyle & Carson might be more willing to lend a hand. Flawed logic-maybe...maybe not... its too soon to tell. After boots, I love the older cars. My dream car is a red 57 chevy, chrome, white wall tires. Red and white interior, red carpet, red steering wheel with a 302 engine!
Reply
DaveSum Premium
I restored a buddies dash on his '57 and then the following winter put a 383 stroker engine in it for him. Its hugger orange with a black interior, he's had it since dirt was invented. He's getting the itch for a '55 now so this car may be finding a new home fairly soon.

Just curious why a 302? My favorite car is the early Z/28s and the knock on the 302 is that they don't have any low end torque-but they rev to the moon. Do you like rappin the engine up that high-that's when parts break. I will say however that an engine at 8000 RPM makes an impression on you that you'll NEVER forget. I can hear that sound inside my head from years past. Engines are too expensive to repair these days. Just some thoughts to think about.
Good luck with your Boots niche!
Reply
Boots75 Premium
My 68 mustang had a 302 engine which was kind of rare back then. I do like the 383. I cant own one because I would be getting tickets all over town! LOL. This granny is not going to get old. I like the 57 better. I think it looks sharper. But on the 57 I would have a pale green. I love going to car shows. I better quit or I could go on about the old cars. LOL

Thank You for following Dave;

Happy to make the connection with you here at Wealthy Affiliate. I am looking forward to sharing a few good tips.

I really like to meet and connect with my fellow community members at WA. It was my pleasure to read about you and your passion for muscle cars. What is your "true" favorite muscle car? I am a Ford fan, yet the older GM and Mopar produces have a much better sound.

Oh yah, baseball has always been my sport growing up. I have met a few people that turned pro when they played AAA in Pittsfield. I have seen players like Bump Wills, Dave Clyde, Len Barker, and Rafael Palmeiro just to name a few.

Let's face the fact…

We are here to help each other succeed!.

REMEMBER: Small steps will lead to GREAT strides...

My favorite is the old Camaros 67-73. I'm open minded enough to like the second generation also.
I absolutely love the early fastback Mustangs, that body style is gorgeous!
I also like the 70-71 Cudas, a kid in high school had an AAR and it was a little too fun.
It's very cool to meet with the pros, of any sport. I've met both pro Baseball & Football players here in the Kansas City area.
Thanks for your offer of help-you may regret it!

Hello Dave. Thanks for following me, here on WA.

Your muscle car reminds me of my youth back in Springfield, IL, when the Car Craft Street machine Nationals had come to town. My childhood friend had won a few awards with his Plymouth GTX. I forget how much time and money he had poured into that vehicle in restoration and modifications, but he did win a few awards in the contest shows.

I guess it just goes to show, if we have a business goal, make a persistent effort to work at it, and invest our time and other resources into building it, we can also gain the rewards.

well, it's a Black Dodge Ram 1500 with a 6 speed manual. It came raised in the back and I put big wheels on it. When I have some disposable income, I hope to really fix it up and customize. I've had it since 2006 and have yet to see another truck like it. But then again, I don't really travel in a circle of car and truck enthusiasts. Not much power (v6). But I hope to keep it forever and keep it going.

Late 60's/early 70's Charger right? Tops out over 220 mph right? Looks like beyond amazing fun to drive! YEAH!

Here's to your massive success and overflow for all! Cheers!

And thanks for following Dave; look forward to getting to know you!
Reply
DaveSum Premium
It's actually a '69 Camaro Z/28-but I love the '68-69 Chargers also. They look like the Dukes of Hazard cars. The aerodynamics of those old bodies will only allow speeds of 180 or so....LOL! (Not really without lots of $$$$$$). But you're right these old muscle cars are a blast to drive! You should get a Charger and go out & pick up guys....
Reply
MDiane Premium
Really? A Chevy ~ nice ride, but that front end has Chrysler written all over it. Ah come on now, I once got a late 70's Riv to do 160 and my Regal would do 200 easy ~ stock.

Pick up guys? Did plenty of that back in the day LOL These days, I'll stick to picking up cash. Like I said, Here's to overflow in 2015!
Reply
DaveSum Premium
Have you thought about Nascar as a vocation?
Back when I was a kid I did run another Z/28 I had over 155-160. If the car had had a different gear in the rear end it would have gone as fast as I wanted it to-it had plenty of engine left. At those speeds the air entering the engine compartment started to raise the front end off of the ground, that said I started slowing down.....aerodynamics.
Reply
MDiane Premium
Actually, I really wanted to race Nascar, but that was back in the days when girls couldn't do that stuff. Now I too old; don't even street race anymore.

That is a gorgeous car! A kid in high school had an AAR 'Cuda with a pistol grip. We never skipped school and went out cruisin-well much... That was a fun car! It was that fluorescent BRIGHT green that you could see for a hundred miles. Another kid had a red '70 Cuda, but I don't remember what he had in it any more-sorry. Because of these 2 cars I have a soft spot for '70 'Cudas. Sorry I kinda get carried away about these old muscle cars. Have a good weekend!

There's nothing like that old iron, yeah the new ones are better in every way but one-Cool Factor! IMO. I remember when I was a kid & I saw the first progressive taillights on a Cougar-that was cool & state of the art back then. Best of luck with your project. If you think about it sometime, please send me a pic, I love looking at that old iron.

When I was a kid my folks had a '66, it wasn't an SS or anything cool, but I really like those 2 years of Chevelles'. I've been helping my buddy with his '69 SS 396 4 speed car, I just have fun messin with those old cars. I can't wait for Spring to get here and take her out for a test drive......
Reply

Yeah, mine was an SS with a 396 and 4 speed tranny. 4 barrel crab. Can't remember the differential but it was a sweet car

I know the new hot rods are faster than the old ones (more expensive too), however they just don't have the COOL factor. I have a newer Camaro and its hands down faster than that Z pictured, but it doesn't "feel" like the old ones. No A/C, no rough idle, no transmission whine due to the angle the gears were cut on, no waiting for the cam to kick in at 3000 rpm and push you back in the seat-you know what I'm saying! OK I'll shut up now. Here's to a great 2015 for us (all of us) at WA!

Thanks! The old iron is simply the best. Back in the day I was probably too much a GM guy, but today I appreciate them all. The cars I used to "go cruising" in, skipping school, racing-you know the drill! Look at a '71 Cuda with that Scalloped Grill, a '67 Fastback Mustang, a '57 Chevy etc. etc. You know exactly what I'm saying. Dave

Well I naturally changed my approach & decided to go with Bootcamp the other night. My passion is the old cars, you probably could have guessed that one, so I'm on the second Bootcamp lesson to review for me. (I was on lesson 5 but forgot to check off some of the completed boxes and went a little backwards.) My decision was based on learning how to do this in the first place and then fueling my passion with additional sites when I understand something-anything!?!?! Dave
