What a day this will be.

Sunday 14th July 2024

What a great day this is going to be, I will be burnt out – in capital letters - by 10pm tonight.

Here in Europe we have the Wimbledon tennis finals, always a starwberries and cream event.

At the same time is the Tour de France bike race through the Pyrennes Mountains – fantastic. And today is a national holiday in France, le quatorze juillet, passez une bonne journée mes amis.

And then … and then … tonight is the Euro 2024 Football Final (or soccer). England versus Spain. What a game that will be. We beat the Spanish Armada back in 1588, we can do it again. The Mayflower didn’t sail to America until 1620 so I wonder just how many of our North American cousins had great great …. grandads fighting on the ships.

History is such a fascinating subject – always something new to learn. I was sat in the Abbey on Friday, eating a Glastonbury Pasty, and tried to visualise just what it was like in its glory years, who was sat on this very stone that I was now sat on in the monks dining room.

Anyway, good luck to all the winners, commiserations to the losers – come back and try again, never give up.

And you guys, don’t give up either. Beat that drum every day and be a winner.

A busy day indeed Bux! Bonne Fete Nationale!

Luckily, I haven't heard any fireworks here yet... they scare the hell out of my pup... but later on let's see!

Just about to have lunch here then a long nap so I am refreshed for the main event tonight!!

Catch you later buddy and enjoy!!

👍🍻

I wish I was there. I've just sent my best wishes to my friends in Suevres.
Enjoy the evening.
Bux

I hope to Bux, just depends how the footy goes!

I managed to fit in a quick three hour nap, so I should be ok if things go to extra time or penalties!!

Have a great one buddy!!

👍🍻

We lost. Must try harder.
I will content myself with a glass of mead. Or maybe two.
Look after yourself Nick

I really thought that this would be our year Bux....

Nevermind, heads up and move on my friend! :-)

Have an awesome day, Dave!

I will Dave. One down, two to go.

There's a good chance that 90% of England will be cheering the team on tonight and I think the country will almost come to a standstill...58 years without a major trophy is a long time. Fortunately, I was 14 years old in 1966 so I can still remember the games from then.
At 72 years of age, I can't afford to wait another 58 years...
Come on England!

Thanks Michael. Yes, I can remember exactly where I was for that 1966 match. On a campsite with mum and dad at Rhosneigr on Anglesey. I could even take you to the patch of grass.
You're right, we can't wait much longer.
Take care

Enjoy the game, Bux! ⚽ 🏈

Myra ♥️

One down, two to go Myra.
Enjoy your Sunday.

Morning Bux,
As you say a busy day, always loved history, have written a couple of books on local history, including one on churches, both out of print a long time ago!!

One of our local churches built in 1664 has a triple decker pulpit and still retains the boxed pews.

Enjoy your day mate!

Stuart

That's good Stuart. So many churches have been modernised and distastefully so in many cases. A triple decker, never seen one, but again - who has walked into that pulpit, who has sat and listened to a sermon. What were they wearing, thinking about, what would they eat that day, if anything.
The medieval times were not like the Ealing Studios version of events, clean clothes, shaven and well fed.
Enjoy Sunday my friend, I will.
