GREASE - the movie
Greetings everyone. Long time no post, but I’m still here beavering away.
More on that later.
Saturday afternoon we had a get together at my sister’s to celebrate mum and dad’s wedding anniversary. They have both passed through the portal but we think it’s a nice sentiment to celebrate their life together each year.
Anyway….
The movie Grease was on TV for the 129th time. The one with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John,
A question was asked.
Did the Americans REALLY do all that stuff in the 1950s. The big cars, fairground on the field because school had finished, dressing up in frocks and greased back hair (not the same person!).
Or is it just Hollywood licence and theatricals.
I would love to know.
My end of term do was a rugby match against the teachers.

Firstly, great to hear from you again Bux... I am sure that the Rhino in you is charging at full speed!
That is indeed a lovely sentiment to celebrate the lives of your dear parents, I trust you all had an enjoyable day..
As for Grease.. well I must say that its appearance on the box for the 129th time is an understatement (it must have been on more than that when I lived back in Blighty, and you know how many years ago I left those shores)!
From what I have read about the 50's in America, I do believe that is was very similar as they portray it in the film!
My end of terms at school sound very similar to yours though.. a quick game of rugby and then football against the teachers (obviously not on the same day of course) at the end of the winter term.
Then always a game of cricket at the end of the summer term!
Have a fantastic week my friend! :-)
Thanks Nick.
Yes, totally charging. I've hit a little seam of gold that I'm exploiting just now so happy as a Cheshire cat.
Hope you are well. Are you still in France.
Bux
Very happy to hear that my friend... there is nothing better than being able to smile as a Cheshire cat does!
After our last discussion, the storm has... well.. at least calmed Bux.
So, in Lyon, I continue to reside for now!
Good question... the answer is YES ... at least in California. Well, not so much the singing and dancing, but racing cars for pinks and dragging Main St. Check out American Graffiti. It was a big thing in the town where I live. My wife did it... two of her brothers lost cars racing.
Thanks for the info Jim.
I take it that pinks are ownership documents.
Good film for a family afternoon.
Take care.

Hello Bux! Long time no chat! I'm glad to hear that everything is going well with you. Unfortunately, I wasn't born back then but they did have a lot of nice cars and greased back hair. :)
Happy wedding anniversary to your mom and dad. :)
Myra
Thank you Myra, nice to hear from you.
Yes, really busy with projects and everything going to plan
Look after yourself.
Bux
Yes, Bux, though I was not there, many 1950s photos and era movies also showed this too!
Hope you are doing well, my friend!
Rugby match against the teachers? I love it! Payback time!
We did have a dodgeball match against the teachers one time though! 🤣😹
Jeff
Thanks for the info Jeff.
Payback, oh yes. We could play rough when we wanted to.
Hope you are well.

Grease was over the top. But, yes the culture did exist in 50's America. I do believe it was a good time to be there.
I grew up in a small town in Canada, and it was in the 70's when I graduated from school. But I have seen enough of the US in the 50's to confirm that this did exist in places.
Alex
Brilliant info. Thanks.
Good to know there was some fact behind the film.
Hope all is well with you.
