$286 Per Day? My Friend Said "Don't Do It!"

Last Update: May 04, 2019

Around a year ago from the date of writing this post I came up with an idea for a new website and I quickly became pretty excited about the thought of turning that idea into a reality...

However it turned out that in order to do so it was going to require a LOT of work & money.

Anyway I sat & thought about it & tried to weigh it up...

Would the idea that I'd come up with really make me any money? Or would it just see me doing a whole load of work & spending a whole load of money for nothing?

The truth is I couldn't come up with an answer - so I decided to ask a friend.

I remember the conversation well...

"Don't do it" he said.

"It's too risky", he added.

And in a sense he was right. If I did all of that work & spent all of that money & it all turned out to be for nothing - it could be a real bummer for sure.

But you know what else could? The thought of never knowing...

I mean imagine that? Coming across a great opportunity or coming up with a great idea & never pursuing it? Never knowing what could have been, if only you had just tried or stuck with it a little longer?

I personally couldn't live with that - I would rather face failure than regret and so I decided to go ahead with the idea. After all, if I lose some money or time, so what? At least I tried.

So for the past year I have been working on this project...

I have been putting a LOT of hours into it - as well as money.

And all of this time while I have been working on it, it has been making me nothing...

So you may say I am stupid. Why would I work so hard & spend so much money if I wasn't getting anything in return?

Well the answer is because I have a long-term vision - and if you truly want to find success then so should you.

I mean, imagine saying "I'll go to the gym for 1 month and see what happens"...

Obviously NOTHING is going to happen. In fact, many people would laugh at you if you said that because many people know that going the gym for just 1 month won't do anything.

Most people know that if you want to truly get fit or begin to see good changes at the gym you must give it at least 6 months - even a year (and to maintain it, it should be ongoing)...

So why do people have such a different view when it comes to business?

"Oh I'll try affiliate marketing for 1 month see if I can make money"... LOL, come on.

If it was that easy to build an affiliate income - an income that can be generated from anywhere in the world, completely on your own terms, then everybody would be doing it.

But they're not - instead most people are still working jobs they dislike, and the truth is that only a minority end up seeing great success with their businesses.

So what's the secret that seperates that minority?

The long-term vision!! Honestly, that is it. So few people have it... But if you can truly stick with something, whether it be the gym or business for 6, 12 or more months then you will start seeing results no doubt about it - and the harder you work, the greater those results will be.

Which brings me back onto the new website I launched...

Remember I said I had been working hard on it for around 1 year & it had been making me nothing in return? Remember I said you might think I was crazy for doing that?

Remember my friend said "don't do it"?

Well take a look at this:

For the past month that exact website has been making over one hundred dollars per day - sometimes as shown above even more than that.

And I absolutely do not want that to be taking as "bragging or boasting" because that is far from my intention - instead I want you to find motivation from it, because...

Imagine if I had given up during that year where "nothing was happening"?

Imagine if I had taken my friends advice who said "it was too risky"?

...crazy right?

And as I said in one of my previous posts "the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now"...

You see honestly, when it comes to the internet there are so many new sales made every day, meaning that as an affiliate there is SO much money out there for the taking - and YOU can be the one taking it providing you are willing to work hard for it & providing you are willing to stick with it, even if you not yet seeing results.

I don't care who you are, what your story is, what your excuses are - YOU can do this.

It's just that in order to do it, you have to truly make the decision to do it.

Don't just "dabble in it"... Don't just "dip your toes"...

Don't be the person that says "if I make some money I'll go Premium"...

Be the person that says "I'm going Premium, because I'm going to make money!".

So if you are currently having any doubts with regards to your business - as to whether or not "it will work" - then I just want this post to serve as motivation to KEEP GOING. 🙂

And on that note that's me signing off, but I'll leave you with yet another quote...

"I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have." -- Thomas Jefferson

Thanks so much for this. We often have this conversation in my house because money is so tight for us and I spend countless hours working on my blog; my husband doesn't understand because if he did then he would leave me be. Instead, I take it as a sign that he wants me to quit but I refuse to.

In my heart i feel like what i'm doing can really become big some day and I put everything I have into it. So, like you, I can't stop. I'll always feel like i missed an opportunity and I will never know what will happen If I don't continue.

I've only been here since mid february and already I have given my business a solid foundation, I have seen little profit, but something is better than nothing, and it gives me the motivation to continue to plant that tree.

In 20 years it will be standing 50 feet tall and I will be sitting on top with a big a** smile on my face.

Thanks so much for sharing. This is just what I needed today.

What a great post!

Some people just do n´t have an entrepreneur´s mindset, and they say things like your friend did. I do n´t talk about my website a lot to my friends or family at this point, because I just get comments like "Are you making any money yet?"

Well, I know I WILL make money, but they do n´t believe it, because they do n´t understand entrepreneurship or online marketing.

It´s certainly true, that the things people regret most are not the things they have done, but the things they have NOT done. I do n´t want to be one of those people, who end up regretting not trying to pursue their dreams.

I totally agree. I rather keep it to myself. People just don't understand.

I totally feel you, Dale.

Honestly, I myself learned not to listen to people especially if they are not familiar with the topic. For example, listening about managing money from someone who's in debt, or health tips from someone who has health issues... Wouldn't be smart.

But I'll gladly listen to advice of those who are experienced and can actually help you, not hinder your progress.

I'm all about experimenting like you are, and sometimes it's good to listen to your intuition.

I mean a few years ago, I really wanted to try Digital Altitude because I was desperate to make money but had a bit of feeling I shouldn't proceed with it. (Luckily, I didn't have the means to invest in it back then LOL.)

On the other hand, I felt that online business (websites) was my thing, that it's legit and even though everyone around me tried to convince me that you can't make money on the Internet, whatsoever, I just kept doing my thing. I listened to my heart and I'm so glad I did!

Either way, having experience with online projects etc now definitely is in our favour, we are less likely to fall for shiny objects and actually proceed with legit business ideas (like you did here)!

Congrats on your achievements, it's always a pleasure reading your post Dale :)

P.S. Love the quotes you added in the post!

Great post! Totally encouraging! Thank you for sharing your story. I've been feeling that i'm putting a lot of time and getting absolutely nothing in return...but you're right "what if" this is the right opportunity and I simply end up quitting too soon.

I will continue to apply my time and training into this so that one day very soon, i'll be able to share a similar encouraging post.

Best,
Dee

Great post and great motivation! Just have to keep moving forward. Right now I'm interested in creating more content and moving through the education than anything. I know that if I'm not a reliable source the chances of making any money are slim to none. Work hard now... Play harder later.

I have heard so many tree analogies but the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago? That is brilliant!

Can't change the past but the next best thing is controlling the now and being the one incharge of your future.

Thanks for the post and good luck with your continued success.

Thanks, Dale, this really hit home with me just a few minutes ago. I just had a conversation with my father and he told me giving up the pension and medical and starting something that you don't know that's gonna make you any money, and you don't know anybody that is making money, you will make another bad mistake. And I told him it is my life and I'm tired working for peanuts and making other people money. I would rather try this and have it never work and say I at least tried to get ahead in my life, failure is never trying out something new because you're scared and afraid.

I will be 53 Years old on June 22nd, my life is more than half over and I'm tired of doing what I have been doing for the last 32 years. I went back into the plant told them that I like to stay on to June 22, 2019, so that I can complete my 32-year service and they agreed to let me stay. I am so happy to be learning so much from this program that I never thought I could do what I have been doing and learning what I have been learning in so short a period of time. I am more motivated than ever to keep on going and nobody and nothing is going to stop me.

I cannot live my life for the people, I am an adult and I will pay for my mistakes one way or another. Some people do not take a risk in life because they're afraid, they play it safe, I have been doing this all my life and I am tired of it. When I look back at what I accomplished I am sad and depressed, so I am moving forward in my life. I cannot see what is around the corner, but I am getting really excited about what I'm working on in this program and the potential it has to offer. I get more motivated every day realizing the opportunities that are ahead and I'm not going to let this one get away from me.

Yep - your comments will resonate with a lot of people here who have likely heard the exact same thing. The problem is that most people know nothing other than a "job" - but once you learn to "make" money rather than work for it you will never look back and you will never look at a job the same again. Thanks for your comment :)

This post really does motivates me. I've been working on my site for a while, publishing posts which are now over 50, but haven't seen the result I expected. Though my traffic keeps growing month by month, I'm not getting sale I thought I would.
I haven't published a post this week, but thank God I read your post. There's now a motivation to keep going.

I agree, your post is not for bragging. Even though it is, it somehow helps me. And, I believe it helps so many other members.

Thanks for sharing.

Just the kind of testimony that I needed, congratulations on achieving your current results by the way!

I have a feeling that I won't be too far off before I start seeing sales!

amazing success :)

Have you built this site using OEC
or bootcamp training?

Have many posts you have on it?

Does the commissions come as a result
of organic traffic or paid?

Have you used backlinks to grow traffic?

Great post, and it's absolutely true. What often separates those who end up working at jobs they hate from those who are able to build a laptop lifestyle for themselves is attitude, drive, belief in oneself, and the grit to keep going and persevere even when pursuing the goal is unpleasant. A shift in attitude can do wonders for the ability to overcome obstacles and setbacks because we call encounter them.

Thank you for sharing your insights -- they are a good reminder that it's important to ignore the naysayers.

Posting your actual earnings from your affiliate marketing endeavors is a good thing and should be encouraged. It shows the unsuccessful people that they are not chasing shadows and that this whole business actually works. I hate when people just through out obscure descriptions of there success. It doesn't inspire me and makes me question whether they are the "real deal" or not.
Reply
Dale123 Premium
I appreciate why people don't do it (earnings are generally a pretty private thing) - and I myself kind of tiptoe around doing it as I don't want it come across in the wrong way... But in the same breath I also understand there are people new to the game that want to see "if it's real" & need to see "proof of earnings" for that validation... Which is why I sometimes include them. Thanks for your comment :)

I agree, I think it's alright doing it here, as we are already believers (or else we should be), but putting it on a public website might have the opposite effect. I wouldn't put it on Facebook, for example, but would so put it on my own website!

That's great Dale. you I was supposed to end this business. Like you said. I earn nothing and that is absolutely nothing. I did not get anything until today.

I think I have to think twice. and many times. I also put a lot of effort sleepless night just to make all things become possible.

I almost give up. I hope someone will cheer me up. anyway If I will stop the more time Will be wasted.

thank foe you're post.

That’s such a great post and what you say about Premium is so true. I went Premium in 3 days and it was an annual sub rather than monthy. I had to give it a minimum of 12 months and if you see the last post on my blog, it’s beginning to work.

As Dale says, it’s not IF it works, but WHEN. Give it time, and you’ll wonder what you thought so long and hard about. 😉

Yes. Same here. I'm looking forward to daily commissions like you though. What do you think is a good traffic and conversion threshold to expect daily commissions? I have passed the milestone of getting daily referrals, but now, I want to get to the "daily commissions" mark. What do you think?

I'm referring to the WA affiliate program.
