How to Get Past Overwhelmed – Fast and Easy

Yeah, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. There’s so much to learn. Just look at all that training available in here. It’s a lot. In fact it’s normal to feel overwhelmed.

Just out of curiosity, how is your handwriting? Can you read it?

Are your notes organized? Is it categories? Can you see what you learned?

But even more important, can you see the pockets of missing information? Those areas where you still need learn more?

THE PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE KEYBOARD – THEY SAY – BUT IS IT REALLY TRUE?

Here is something really interesting.

Pam Mueller from Princeton University and Daniel Oppenheimer’s did study comparing student taking note handwriting and laptops

They found that students hand writing notes learned more, understood more and a week later even remembered more.

But I am not convinced it’s as simple as that.

LEARNING TO TAKE BETTER NOTES – BECOMING OBSESSIVE ABOUT IT

All the struggles most of you are going through right now I’ve been through. I’ve been through more battles than you can imagine.

And just so you clearly understand this lesson I’ve learned. “There will be no end to learning”. There will always be more to learn. So the best thing you can do for yourself is learn how to learn, fasters, and better.

I take notes by both handwriting and keyboard. Those of you who know me well know that I am obsessed about taking notes. I’ve told you more than once “Take notes. You can’t rely on your memory.” You’ll forget more than you learn.

But here is the big twist to that study above.

Your notes have to be well organized. Extremely well organized. Just like a book. And you have to be able to keep filling in all those pockets of missing information, as you learn.

And yet that is still not enough. Anytime you come up with a question you need to write it down, in the right section. Otherwise by the time you do find the answer you’ll forget your question. Again, you can’t rely on your memory.

Then when you do find the answer, fill it in, replacing your question. This is how to learn fast.

BUT THERE’S STILL MORE …

As a bonus what you end up with is your own “Vault of Knowledge”. A complete and through “Book of Knowledge”.

A product, your product, to share or sell. Chapter by chapter, if that is what you want to do.

NICHE DON’T MATTER

People will be banging on your doors. As long as you Market Your Knowledge well. They’ll be begging you for more. Calling you an Amazing Genius. I guarantee this.

So once again, let me ask you one last time, “How’s your handwriting?”

Great advice! I also do both, handwritten notes and keyboard. Rewriting as necessary to clean things up and clarify. Thanks Craig, I thought I might be being a bi obsessive, but it's the only ay for me to keep things straight sometimes.

Bi obsessive, that phrase made me laugh. Thanks for that.

I do both too. I have stacks of Yellow Legal Pads, in Stacks of folders, to prove that. And that's not counts Miscellaneous Notes.

Wow! I m so glad I am no the only one with stacks!! Lol!

Excellent post; i take notes and do the keyboard thing as well, but my organizational skills could use a helluva lot of work!

lol...mine too...guess that's going to always be the case for me. Though, slowly, I am getting better.

Thanks, Craig. Making notes is my first instinct. I always start any new learning process with notebook and pen. You've reminded me how valuable it can be. In the interest of saving time and under the staggering weight of so much information here, I had begun copying and pasting in Word document. But perhaps I shall return to my notebook. I wish you all the best.

I don't need luck. I just need to keep learning. lol...And I think things are really starting to look brighter. Feels like a breakthrough is about to happen. Over-night success, Finally!

Yeap, the weight of new information is staggering, for sure. I also tried copying and pasting articles into Words Documents.

I built up a whole library of copied and pasted documents but then ran into problems trying to retrieve information.

Often enough articles fit into multiple categories. if I didn't remember a title, or which category I saved a document, then I had to search the "whole" library by keywords.

Then had to read each article that the search returned. Looking for the information I wanted. Never sure if I even ran the right Keyword search.

To solve this problems I tried every thing I could think of. I even tried curation tools like Evernote, Diigo and a few others I don't remember.

I don't know how interested in this you are. However if you If you want to know about the solution I eventually found just say "Yahooo.. hoo .,, hoo.

Thank you! Great article. Where you a teacher?

Hello Craig, it's good to see you.
I have always loved handwriting and have had the same inkpen for 27 years (probably need a new one!)
I'm also very organised although my sons call it something else (and it wouldn't be right to say it here:))
I think handwriting your thoughts keeps the best content on the paper. There is no delete button. I've gone back over notes I never used and then realised they were useful.
Hope you are getting okay.
Take care

I like that you pointed out the fact that there is no delete button. Ideas form for a reason, we may not know the reason right away but that doesn't mean we shouldn't save our thoughts.

You never know what one little idea can sprout into, so why delete it?

27 years! That got to be some sort of record!

My handwriting used to so terrible even I could barely read it. But now I am an obsessively write down ideas.

But the biggest benefit is I found was a college course on youtube, Taking Notes to Speed Up Learning and Deepen Comprehension.

Taking Notes and Learning Faster, now that a life skill I can take with me anywhere I go!

Like I always say, Blogging Is Not About Blogging. It's about Growth"

Personally, I pen my outlines first and prefer to write the first paragraph of anything I create, by handwriting it. For some reason It helps my thoughts begin to flow.

Hey mama, it's great to see you. Isn't those first few paragraphs fun to write? It is to me. I go back and forth between paper and the computer.

But. as you know, Is it more convenient to jot down ideas, as they come, on paper.

For those of you who wish your were more creative try this technique.
There is something very special about that connection between mind body. .

Yeah, it's slower, but maybe that's just what's needed to get the creative juices flowing. And you just might find out that your creative mind is stronger and more alive than you first thought.

So to you I ask again, "How's your handwriting?"

Great post!.Knowledge it self is power.(Francis Bacon)

Glad you like it. Did you give it a Thumbs Up? I would appreciate that. Maybe I'll write more posts if people really like what I shared.

Suphatp, let me ask you, and all everyone else out there a question. Would you be interested in a Check-List You Can Use For Your Next Article?

You know, a coworker and I were talking about this morning. We were talking about how kids seem to learn more when they write it down instead of typing it. I know I retain more of what I learn when I write than when I type. Great post and I like the idea of creating your own product just from your notes! Thanks!

Creating your very own from your notes, Isn't that a simple yet very elegant idea?

There has been many studies over the years about learning more and getting a deeper understand just by handwriting notes.

But here the catch that I found. You have to know how to take very good notes. Where at a quick glance you can see what you know. But more importantly see what you don't know, where are pockets of missing information.

Have you ever heard of the Cornell University Style of Taking Notes?

Wonderful advice! I'm a notetaker but not as organized as I should be.

awww, that's too bad. Don't let this opportunity pass you by.

If you ever want to know how I got myself organized, just let me know.

I use a simple method. Simple is the best. It's easier to get organized and and stay organized.

If this post was worth the time and effort to read please, do me a favor, and share it your friends.

If you want to. and are ready, I can show you a really easy way to get your note really well organized.

Organization, was one of my weakest skills. Over time I learn to strengthen it.

Well that's not completely honest. I "had" to strengthen it. It was holding me back, way more than I wanted to admit.

Until one day ....

Brilliant advice. I've always been a stickler for tonnes and tonnes of notes, and friends used to jibe me about it at school, - but guess who had the entire years' material when it came to exam revision time? I always credit that with me having done well and I've kept it up ever since. I have a LOT of paper in my house, but I have a lot of useful info too :)

"Brilliant Advice" wow, you're making me blush. Thanks! Glad you enjoyed my ounce of wisdom.

I always tell people "If you want to learn fast 'Take Notes!'" I say it so often it almost now my motto.

If you think this post is worth sharing please tell your friends. I'll show them how I take notes for fast learning

There is so much to learn none of us can waste any time, if we want to be successful.

Oh and if you ever have any questions, any at all, just ask.

Many thanks. Will do.

You're Awesome, Thank you. I think I just made a new friend. ha ha ha.
