Here's Something Everybody Will Think is Cool, but I'm Dedicating This Post To My Buddy, Steve, Who Plans To Someday Live In New Zealand, As Well As My Friends Here Already Residing In Kiwi Land.

From This World Map, You Can See That New Zealand Is Located Southeast of Australia, Approximately 1,433.9 Miles Away From Our Planet's Largest Island.

This Map Shows That the Waitomo Caves, the Subject of This Post, Are Located On the West Side of the North Island of New Zealand, About 136 Miles Away From Auckland, New Zealand's Largest City.

Waitomo Caves Is a Village, a Cave System, and a Major New Zealand Tourist Attraction.

The Word Waitomo Means "Water Passing Through a Hole," and the Effect of Chemicals and Flowing Water Created the Caves in the Limestone Rock.

People Have Been Exploring the Caves Since the early 1900's.

Many Visitors Stay At the Charming Waitomo Caves Hotel, Which Was Built In 1908.

Of Course, You May Want To Stop For a Bite To Eat.

In 2004, About 400,000 Visitors Went On Cave Tours in the Area.

A Visit to the Waitomo Caves Was Voted Number 14 On a List of 101 "Kiwi Must-Do's," in a 2007 New Zealand AA Poll of More Than 20,000 Motorists.

The Presence of Glowworms (the Fungus Gnat Arachnocampa Luminosa) in the Cave System Creates a Stunning Ethereal Light Display.

There Are Also Many Amazing Stalactite and Stalagmite Formations in the Caves.

Guided Boat Tours Through the Caves Are Available Daily.

The Particular Type of Glowworm Found in the Caves Exists Only in New Zealand.

There are several caverns in central texas but none with cool glowing worms Thanks for the share Rick

Thanks for checking it out, Tim.

Really cool... A bit scary though...:)

Not if you're holding hands. :)

yes, maybe...:)

Well, I think, Steve would organise a tour for us in case he really settles there...I would go... as you Americans say, bloody exciting...(I read it in one book.. don't laugh at me..:)

I believe that's a British term. :)

yes, it was Roald Dahl's book ... totally hilarious.. can't remember the title.. but I will find later - I've got it...:)

Is that the monster book? :)

No... It's about father and son going poaching pheasants...(Did I get it all right?). Unbelievably funny...:)

Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl
... Having poached 120 pheasants from Mr. Hazell’s woods, they hide the drugged pheasants at the local vicar’s house, while they take a taxi home.

Here’s Roald Dahl’s famous story about a 9-year-old boy, his dad, and a daring and hilarious pheasant-snatching expedition. ... For the record, this was not my favorite Roald Dahl book. Something about the poaching seemed a little less "Robin Hood" and a little more...

I've poached clams on Pismo Beach, but never pheasants. :)

clams are different...just look for a book... it's something...:)

I haven't heard of that one. :)

It was meant for children, but I laughed my head off reading... and sometimes read to my students at advanced levels. They like it too..:)

I'll try to find it. :)

:))

that is really cool, thanks, Rick

Thank you, Mike.

Thank you, Paul. I'm glad you liked it.

Stunning photo's. I want to go there. Another thing to add to my bucket list.

Me too, Mergie! :)

How beautiful Rick :)

I want to see it! :)

One of the cool places in my home country. Went there once as a kid with my dad. I have never experienced such suffocating darkness in my life. It is one of many amazing and beautiful places in the country I will always call hone no matter where I roam. Thanks for posting.

Hi Tony-Thanks for your comments. I'd really like to see it some day!
