The Balloons
"It was one of those days, Ya know what I mean? I was hangin' out with my sister, out in the yard. She was kinda startin' ta fall asleep on my shoulder, and I was startin' ta think all kinds of magical thoughts..."
"All of a sudden, I saw our neighbor's lawn chair, tied to a big bunch of balloons, floatin' up over our house! Our neighbor was runnin' around in his yard, shoutin' real loud!"
"That night, everything just went crazy! The sky was full of balloons! They just kept coming, but I dunno where from..."
"Well, I did see some of them coming right out of a trash can! Weird, huh?"
"In the morning, The whole sky was still full of balloons!"
"Some people grabbed some of the balloons and made balloon animals..."
"My very favorite one was this dog!
"The sky was full of balloons all day long..."
"They floated across the river!"
"Some of them popped!!"
"But the rest just floated higher and higher..."
"A guy down the street had a giant red balloon!"
"Some were so big, people were riding in them..."
"There were a whole bunch of that kind of balloon..."
"They had baskets, so people could ride under the balloons!"
"I grabbed a bunch of balloons and took them in my little boat. When I got to the middle of the pond, I let them go, and they flew up high with all the other balloons!"
"I watched them fly away, one-by-one..."
"I watched them until they were out of sight!"
"At the park, I saw a spotted dog playing with a balloon."
"Further down, gray balloons poured out of a big smokestack, instead of smoke!"
"One man held onto a big bunch of balloons, and floated right into the sky!"
"When I went home for lunch, my whole room was full of balloons!"
"the whole world seemed like it was made of balloons..."
"I even saw some balloon people. They looked kinda scary!"
"The sky was still full of balloons..."
"Jimmy from across the street was filling up water balloons, and throwing them against the wall!"
"There was nothing but balloons, everywhere you looked!"
"I rubbed some balloons on Mikey's head, and then stuck them to the wall. Mom said it did that 'cause of static electricity..."
"There was a big parade downtown, and I saw a giant Spiderman balloon...Wow!"
"I started thinking the Earth and the Moon were just giant balloons!"
"A black and white puppy ran by me, chasing a yellow balloon..."
"Mr. Thomas from the school ran around and around with a big bunch of balloons, on a hill just outside town, that looked a lot like a big, green balloon! The big clock in the tower was going crazy!"
"Balloons kept filling the sky..."
"We watched 'em float up among the clouds..."
"There were so many, nobody knew what to do with them all!"
"Then I decided, what I'll do is give one balloon to a special friend. And that's just what I did!"
(This story was put together for my Granddaughters, Sophia and Ava.)
