Why are We so Afraid of the Internet

A recent experience made me aware of how much we fear the Internet.

I am in the process or recruiting the services of an App developer for a new word game I have designed.

An investigation was conducted and I selected a reputable International company with an office in India.

During the ongoing process, including many emails, exchange of documents and telephone conversations; something strange happened that knocked me off my feet.

The employee in charge of the project, communicated with me via his private Face Book account; I now see this was for convenience and cost-effectiveness; But the user profile painted a different picture, with no hint of the current position.

I became Paranoid and sought a two-step verification, by contacting the company directly, who informed me by email, that the employee was legit; The employee had indicated that the FB user was an old profile, but I had to be certain.

Now I am embarrassed, feeling stupid, and not sure of my next move, have I sabotaged the project? I am waiting to hear from the employee, but no word as yet.

How would you manage such a situation?

You did the professional thing of covering your butt. Facebook isn't a business to business atmosphere and it's been in the news too often to trust a new individual.

Sounds like you just need to reassure yourself that your judgment is on par with what most would do. Remember to believe in yourself so you can continue your pursuits without having to be embarrassed.

Thank you, now I wonder how the employee would react.

You did the right thing. If the company wants to talk to clients and prospective clients on social media then they should make it clear beforehand whose personal account will be contacting you.

This is not your error, this is their poor judgment or lack of judgment.

You are right, there was no warning, Thank you.
