Giving Thanks

I was feeling down in the dumps over the weekend; I do not have access to the Internet at weekends, and I was desperate to undertake some research,I was having problems with electricity to my workshop from the generator, so I decided to visit the beach for a swim; Can you believe there was not a single person in sight, I drove to four different beaches and the result was the same.

I do not like to enter the ocean if there are no other persons in sight, so I drove around for awhile then returned home.

There are people from all over who pay up to ten thousand dollars per night to enjoy our beaches and the local population take it for granted; I can't believe it.

Yesterday I had to wonder what I was so miserable about, when I learnt of the earthquake in Iran; many fatalities, people homeless and sleeping outdoors in the winter cold, no water, no food. What a tragedy!

Today I am giving thanks for life and circumstances that could have been much worse.

You live in a paradise Courtney, its so easy for all of us to take for granted what is so readily available. You are so right, so much to be thankful for, you are alive and well and your homeland is beautiful.

Thats why I am still here; It just needs visionary leadership; now you know why the inhabitants refused to leave when the British was trying to send them to Guyana and other Islands many years ago, when the Islanders were dying of starvation after a long drought.

I love your attitude Courtney, it is so easy to get down due to our own circumstances yet you can see past it to others worse off than yourself.
Amazing to see such a beautiful yet completely deserted beach!!
Stay strong :)

Thank you; we need to educate our people.

That's what I love about you Courtney, despite the misery where you are in at the moment, you keep your heart open for the tragedy of others. It's a crazy world we are living in, those poor people in Iran and Irak, just escaped the killing of the bombs and now the leave their lives to an earthquake.

Ditto everything you said, Loes.

Courtney, you are quite the guy and I wish I was there. I certainly would have gone to the beach with you!!!! You wouldn't have to ask twice.

Thanks Loes, the world is getting to be a tougher place to live, now we have children dying of starvation in Africa, and we have so much wealth in the hands of a few.Where is the heart?

I can not imagine what is in the mind of some people, who have billions in the bank, don't they ever watch the news?

Oh Loes, the things I could say about that.............and about some of the people here in the states. It's a good thing my blood pressure is normally low. When I look around, it shoots up but only to normal.

You don't realize what you got til it's gone.

You really can't go wrong, Courtney, when you have an attitude of gratitude!

I can't believe you didn't find one person on any of the beaches!

Not one soul, our people have a cultural problem; I know the reason why the women shy away from the sea, but I can't understand the reason for the men. When I was teaching in the Midlands-UK- the schools taught swimming in the public baths, we are surrounded by sea and not one school teaches swimming.

True. We take for granted many things until we no longer have them.

So sorry things are still not working on the Island. Praying the electricity return soon. Keep being you.

Thanks, we are being promised electricity by Xmas.I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

By Xmas as in 6 weeks away? Dear God, that's insane.

Amen to that Courtney!
Too many of us forget just how fortunate we are most days.
