Yes my competing sites are lazy, lol. They are much more authoritive but don't do the extra steps...

No Chris that is not duplicate content I wouldn't think. Google will probably even give you a gold star for improved user expierence
By adding the same post to different categories, you are not duplicating the content, you are simply adding additional navigation to get to that same post.
Thanks Forrest, as one of my sites grows bigger there are going to be tons of posts that can fit in quite a few different categories.
Google isn't worried about the odd duplicates...it's the viral ones that get them steamed...

I used to use it but uninstalled it awhile ago because it really slowed down my site. To see which plugins weigh down your sites, temporarily install this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/p3-profiler/ (then uninstall after use).
